SC Villa came from a goal down to beat Onduparaka in a Premier League played at the FUFA Technical Centre in Njeru on Friday.

First-half goals from midfielder Abdallah Salim and Isaac Ogwang cancelled out Muhammad Shaban’s opener for the Caterpillars who finished the game with a man less after Rashid Okocha was sent off for a second bookable offence.

Shaban put the visitors in the lead inside ten minutes with a powerful shot to beat Meddie Kibirige after being set up by Baden Mujahid.

Sadam Masereka missed a free header off Salim’s well-weighted ball but the stylish midfielder later took matters into his own hands, playing a one-two with Travis Mutyaba outside the area before finding the top corner to beat Mathias Muwanga who was off his line to draw the 16-time Champions level.

The Joogos assumed total control of the game and Salim would later set up Ogwang for Villa’s second that eventually turned out the match-winner.

At the start of the second half, Onduparaka were reduced to ten men with Okocha given marching orders for a foul on Mutyaba.

The mountain became steeper for the Caterpillars to climb but they nearly came close as Jarieko was denied by the crossbar.

The win took Villa’s points tally to 7 but did not move a place from 13th coming into the match while defeat for Onduparaka left them static in 8th place with 8 points.

SC Villa will be without youngster Oscar Mawa who was red carded against BUL while Ali Bayo is injured.

However, creative gem Travis Mutyaba, Umar Lutalo, Saddam Masereka, Goffin Oyirowoth and Abdallah Salim are all available as Jogoos hunt for maximum points.

KCCA Football Club makes the long trip to West Nile to take on newbies Arua Hill who haven’t been kind to giants thus far at Barifa Grounds.

The Kongolo have won only two games in the top-flight and both came against top sides in champions Express and URA who finished second last season.

Table leaders KCCA go into the game on the back of a 2-1 win over UPDF that came late while Arua Hill suffered defeat to fellow newcomers Gaddafi in Jinja.

The Kasasiro have a chance to extend their lead at the top with second and third-placed Vipers and BUL FC not in action until Saturday and Sunday respectively.

Morley Byekwaso, the head coach of KCCA, expects a physical encounter and a tough test against a team with experienced players.

“We are prepared to maintain our charge but we expect a very difficult aggressive game on the day. They are a good side with so many experienced players like Toha and Ssekamatte who punished us last season while he was at Bright Stars but we have a plan to win,” he said.

Ssekamatte scored a brace in the last home game (against URA) for the Kongolo and will be eager to repeat a similar feat against his former bosses.

Uganda Premier League champions Express Football Club host Wakiso Giants on Friday afternoon at Muteesa II Stadium, Wankulukuku.

The Red Eagles are searching for their first home win of the season and third overall.

The two sides are separated by a four-point gap, with Wakiso Giants in fourth place and Express three places behind.

Express has won the previous two meetings between the sides but the Purple Sharks are in fine form having won four on the bounce.

Wasswa Bbosa, the head coach of Express, is aware of the threat Wakiso poses.

“Following our goalless draw against SC Villa, we’ve since been working on our finishing so that we’re able to score more. As you know if you don’t score goals you can’t win games and what we want is to score. We know Wakiso Giants are in fine form but the boys are aware and pumped up to earn our first league win at home this season,” he said.

Bbosa’s opposite, Alex Gitta, is confident and says it is the right time for his side to take on Express.

“We face the defending champions and respect them for that. But we are confident and in high spirits to take them on and there is no right timing than this.”

The Federation of Uganda Basketball Associations (FUBA) has confirmed that Uganda’s senior men’s national team (Silverbacks) will not compete at the upcoming first window of the FIBA World Cup Qualifiers.

Lack of funds was cited as the reason for not travelling to Angola’s western city of Benguela for the November 26-28 event.

“The Federation of Uganda Basketball Association (FUBA) on a very sad note wishes to inform you that the Senior Men’s National Basketball team (the Silverbacks) will not compete at the FIBA World cup qualifiers window 1 in Benguela (Angola) from 26th to 28th of November 2021,” FUBA President Nasser Sserunjogi said in a statement.

“FUBA was informed Government of Uganda through National Council of Sports (NCS) that there was no money to support the team for this particular campaign. The team needed approximately 380 million to make the trip.”

It should be noted that the team put up a splendid performance at the AfroBasket finals in Kigali (Rwanda) recently where they made the quarterfinals, before finishing No. 6 overall.

The Silverbacks had already embarked on preps for the window and have been training at the African Bible College in Lubowa.
