Express Football Club picked their first win in the 2021-22 Uganda Premier League, edging BUL FC one-nil at Kyabazinga Stadium in Bugembe on Tuesday.
Midfielder Yaya Mahad Kakooza scored the only goal of the game seven minutes into the second half.

Uganda and Ethiopia will face off in the return leg of the second round of the 2022 Africa Women Cup of Nations (AWCON) Qualifiers on Tuesday.
The Crested Cranes go into the clash at Abebe Biliki Stadium in Addis Ababa oozing with confidence having won the reverse fixture 2-0 at St. Mary’s Stadium – Kitende last week.
Crested Cranes head coach George Lutalo believes his charges have what it takes to secure a decent result and progress to the next round.
“The players are in good shape and the mood in camp since arriving in Ethiopia on Sunday is encouraging. We are ready for the game and hopeful that our target of going to the next round will be achieved.
“I’m aware of how they play. I know Ethiopia is a good team that loves possessing the ball but we equally have our approach and we know where to hurt them.”
The return of midfielder Riticia Nabbosa who has recovered in time for today’s encounter boost Uganda’s camp. The central midfielder limped off after scoring the opener in the first leg and missed most of the training sessions before the team travelled on Sunday.
With her return, Lutalo could name the same lineup that started at St. Mary’s Stadium, Kitende with Captain Ruth Aturo in goal and the quartet of Viola Namuddu, Sumaya Komuntale, Shadia Nankya, and Asia Nakibuuka making up the backline.
Joan Nabirye, Riticia Nabbosa, and Hasifa Nassuna are expected to form the midfield trio with Sandra Nabweteme, Margaret Kunihira, and Fauzia Najjemba the front three.
The winner of the tie on aggregate will face Kenya who eliminated South Sudan.
Police Football Club and Wakiso Giants will be desperate to get off the mark in the new season when they face off at the MTN Omondi Stadium on Tuesday.
The Cops and Purple Sharks have both not picked a point so far, losing two games in succession with the latter sitting at the foot of the table.
Police were beaten 2-0 and 2-1 by Vipers and BUL respectively while the Wakiso Giants lost 3-0 to KCCA and suffered a humiliating 5-0 defeat to Vipers.
Police head coach Abdallah Mubiru says they are working on lifting the confidence of his players and also improving their performance.
“The focus, for now, is to improve our game performance-wise and return the confidence of the boys,” he told the media. “In our last game, we didn’t play our way and that hurt us.
“For now, the focus is beyond just the Wakiso game but improve wholly as a team if we are to get to winning ways,” he added.
Meanwhile, Wakiso Giants will have a new face in the dugout following the resignation of Douglas Bamweyana but like Police, they are short on confidence.
They will be without left-back George Kaddu who was sent off at Kitende but could have midfielder Lawrence Bukenya and Ibrahim Kasule back in the squad for the game.
Previous Meetings
The two sides have previously met six times in all competitions; Police wins 3, Wakiso Giants 2, and 1 draw.
Last season’s corresponding fixture ended in a goalless draw.
Express Football Club visits their bogey side BUL Football Club on Tuesday looking to make amends after suffering defeats in the first two matches of the season.
The reigning champions have gone four matches without scoring in all competitions and all have ended in defeats.
Wasswa Bbosa’s men last scored during the 2-1 win over Al Merrikh in the Caf Champions League at Kitende and have since lost one-nil to Al Merrikh, Bul, and UPDF as well as 2-0 to Arua Hill.
The red Eagles must arrest rot early enough if they are to challenge for the title they won last season.
Bbosa who is serving a touchline ban says they have worked on the finishing which has been the team’s achilles heel in the previous games.
“We know we’ve lost two straight league games but in both losses, our problem has been the failure to convert chances. We create but don’t score so we’ve used the little time we had since Saturday to perfect that so tomorrow against BUL FC we hope to return to winning ways,” Bbosa said ahead of the game.
Express will be without their talisman Eric Kambale as well as winger Godfrey Lwesibawa.
Meanwhile, Alex Isabirye, the man in charge of BUL is confident of maximum points.
“Opening games are always tough and you saw with the many chances we wasted [against Police] but we are confident the boys will be calm on Tuesday to get all three points.”
BUL has won seven of the previous fifteen meetings between the two sides with Express winning just three and the rest ending in draws.
