Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) Football Club head coach Sam Timbe has highlighted where his team needs to improve ahead of the return leg in the CAF Confederation Cup away to Al Masry in Egypt.

Speaking to the media during the official post-match press conference at the St Mary’s Stadium, Kitende after the goal-less draw, Timbe praised his players.

“This was a fair result considering the fact that we lost almost 10 players as were told at the last moment that they would not play (because of COVID-19),” he remarked.

Flanked by the club goalkeeper Nafian Legason Alionzi, Timbe explained areas where URA needs to step-up.

We need to improve upon the interception of the ball from the opponents. There is need to close the spaces faster and trapping of the opponents. We embark on early preparations for the return leg on Monday and we need to improve upon the mistakes done in the first leg.

Goalkeeper Nafian Legason Alionzi felt the result was fair.

“The 0-0 result at home was a positive result. We got a clean sheet from the game and scoring in Egypt will get us an upper hand,” Alionzi said.

“First, we were demoralized when the COVID-19 results were revealed to us late before kick-off. However, we recomposed ourselves and gained focus. We are seeking for a goal in the return leg.”

The return leg will be played on Saturday, 23rd October 2021 in Egypt.

Matchday 1 (Sunday, 17th October 2021 Results)

Wakiso Giants 0-3 KCCA
Police 0-2 Vipers

Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) Football Club has moved top of the 2021-2022 Uganda Premier League log after defeating Wakiso Giants 0-3 at the Kabaka Kyabaggu stadium.

Sadat Happy Anaku, Davis Kasirye and Ashraf Mugume scored the goals for KCCA as they upstaged the hapless giants.

Anaku headed home the opener off a teasing cross by Ali Abubakar Gift in the 7th minute.

They then doubled their lead when forward Kasirye rounded up advancing goalkeeper Samson Kirya after beating an off-side trap.

KCCA captain Benjamin Ochan was also forced into action twice against forwards Frank Ssebufu and Ivan Bogere.

Morley Byekwaso’s coached side found the third ten minutes into the second half, Ashraf Mugume stabbing the ball into the back of the net from 25 yards.

KCCA goalkeeper and captain Benjamin Ochan was named the man of the match.

KCCA now leads the table standings with 3 points (no conceded), same points as Mbarara City, Arua Hill and Vipers.

KOBs extended their dominance in the National Rugby Sevens after winning the Soroti 7s, their third win from as many circuits.

The series defending champions beat Heathens 14-00 in the final to move 11 points clear on the log.

Heathens went to Soroti for the ultimate prize and the intention was clear when they denied Pirates another trip to the final courtesy of a 10-05 win in the semifinal.

Heathens conceded a penalty try after Norbert Okeny was sin-binned following an obstruction offence on Adrian Kasito who had the tryline in his sight.

Aaron Ofoyrwoth could have put Heathens on the board but knocked on just a meter away from the try area as KOBs took a 07-00 cushion to the break under the dark skys.

Kasito crashed over later in the second half, and despite protests from the Heathens players, assistant referee Raymond Kisekka was convinced and KOBs’ try stood. Kasito converted thereafter to put the game beyond Heathens’ reach.

Heathens remain third but move to within two points adrift of second-placed Pirates who have 55 points after finishing third in Soroti.

The victory puts KOBs in strong position to defend their 7s title, with three circuits (Kabale, Rujjumba, and Coronation) still to play.

CAF Confederation Cup 2021 (Match No. 51):

Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) Football Club settled for a goalless draw with Egyptian side Al Masry in the first leg of the CAF Confederation Cup at St Mary’s Stadium on Saturday.

The visitors dominated the first half and while URA was missing several of their star players (because of COVID-19), they managed to hold it together.

Al Masry should have gone ahead in the 13th minute when they won a penalty following a foul on Iwuji by defender Fesali Najib.

Defender Amr Ramadan Mousa watched in disbelief as his kick hit the lower right bottom post to deny the Egypt based side.

Al Masry showed the intent even when Mohamed Abdelaal had a free-kick from 25 yards easily collected by goalkeeper Nafian Alionzi.

URA’s first attempt towards Al Masry came in the 8th minute but the efforts weren’t sufficient to make a difference.

With 10 minutes to close the opening half, Joackim Ojera raced to set up Joackim Ndahiiro who crossed into the area but forward Dickson Ronald Kigongo only brushed the ball.

Second half also brought even chances for each side and even though Al Masry made two changes; Hussein Ali for Amamchi Iwuji and Ziad Farag replacing Ahmed Kenawi, not much was affected.

The return leg will be played on Saturday, 23rd October 2021.

Team Line Ups:

Reactions:

This is a fair result to us because we lost 10 players as we were told at the last moment that they could not be available. Like they missed a penalty, we also missed some scoring opportunities which is part and parcel of the game. I believe we need to improve upon the interception of the ball and trapping of the opponents. We resume preparations for the return leg on Monday and ought to improve upon the mistakes done in the first leg.

Sam Timbe, URA FC head coach

This was a positive result. We got a clean sheet from the gam and scoring in Egypt will get us an upper hand. In this particular match, we were demoralized when the COVID-19 results were revealed to us hours before the game. However, we composed ourselves yet again for the match. We are seeking for a goal in the return leg.

Nafian Legason Alionzi, URA FC goalkeeper

Kobs needed two tries to upstage new rivals Heathens as they claimed their third finals victory of the sevens series on Saturday.

The Legends based side capitalized on Adrian Kasito’s illegal block on Nobert Okeny to earn a penalty try.

Later, Kasito sealed the third circuit success for Kobs after another quick tap from a penalty.

Heathens’ journey was cut short despite being boosted by the return of Aaron Ofoywroth, had dispatched Black Pirates, 10-05, in the second main cup semifinal.

The result meant Kobs – who had eased past Buffaloes – collected maximum points on the trip, and a UGX 500,000 winners’ cash prize.

Heathens finished an impressive second ahead of Black Pirates and Buffaloes in third and fourth places respectively.

The Sevens Series will take a break for one weekend before resuming with the Rujumba Sevens on October 30 at Kings Park Stadium.

Action will then be taken to Kabale before the series finale at Legends during the Coronation Sevens.
