The former started their campaign with victory in their warm up against Ireland despite overnight rain that shortened the match to 43 overs per side.

Daniel, who retired not out with the score at 122 for two was supported by Sadisha Rajapaksa (22), Pawan Pathiraja (25) and Ranuda Somarathne (33) – a total of 233 for seven from 43 overs – with three of the dismissals being run outs.
Sri Lanka proved lethal with their bowling as well, Ireland getting dismissed for 105 from 31.4 overs thanks to Matheesha Pathirana, Wickramasinghe and Wanuja Sahan (3/5) shinning.
Ronald Lutaaya, Juma Miyagi and Joseph Baguma among others will need to turn up for Uganda to stamp authority ahead of the finals proper.
Baby Cricket Cranes coach Ivan Thawithemwira says the team “shall use the next warm-up game against Sri Lanka to work on other team combinations.”
Uganda is making its 3rd appearance at the U-19 World Cup and is in group B alongside South Africa, India and Ireland. Sri Lanka are in Australia, hosts West Indies and Scotland’s group D.

Ugandan Cranes defender Bevis Mugabi has been listed among the most iconic African players to grace Scottish football.
Mugabi joined Motherwell in the summer of 2019, after being released by Yeovil Town in England and he has since turned out to be a beloved one for both the fans and coaches.
The 26-year old’s initial contract was bound to expire in 2020 but the Steelmen extended his stay until the end of next season.
According to curator Daily Record, Mugabi is “the most recent players on the list, it’s hard to say if the 26-year-old will be treated with the legendary status of others in years to come.”
Mugabi shares spots on the list with Victor Wanyama who played for Celtic, Sofien Moussa and Prince Buaben at Dundee, Arnaud Djoum at Hearts, Efe Ambrose at Hibernian among so many others.
The Ugandan received his first call up to the national team for a friendly against Kenya then a 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualification match against Comoros.
He then made his international debut for Uganda on 24 March 2018 in their 3–1 friendly victory over São Tomé and Príncipe.
Wakiso Giants have signed striker Sam Ssenyonjo on loan until the end of the season, the club has confirmed.
“Wakiso Giants can confirm that Sam Ssenyonjo will join on loan from KCCA until the end of the season,” the club announced.
The highly-rated forward who was part of the Hippos team that reached the finals of the AFCON U20 Championship in Mauritania last year has been at KCCA since November 2019.
He, however, found playing time difficult to come his way in KCCA’s forward line that has the likes of Sadat Anaku, Davis Kasirye, Charles Lwanga, and Brian Aheebwa.
The Purple Sharks head coach Alex Gitta welcomed the young forward, saying Ssenyonjo will improve the club’s goal-scoring rate.
“He is a goal poacher and someone we believe will add on our goal scoring rate,” Gitta told the club website.
Ssenyonjo could make his debut later this month in the Uganda Cup as the Purple Sharks travel to Mityana to take on Kiyindi Boys FC at the Round of 64.
The draws for the 2022 Uganda Cup Round of 64 have been conducted at Fufa House in Mengo.
As per the draws, the second division (Fufa Big League) and top division (Uganda Premier League) clubs will be on the road at this round of the tournament.
Cup holders Vipers Sports Club will make the second longest trip as they will travel to the southwest of the country to play Kigezi Home Boys at Kabale Municipal Stadium.
Premier League leaders KCCA FC will travel to the far east to take on Busia United while last season’s losing finalists BUL will make the longest trip of the round for their tie against Bundimasoli in Bundibigyo.
The Round of 64 matches will be played between 18th and 30th January 2022.

Revival of bicycle racing competitions in Buganda is underway as MTN Uganda in partnership with Buganda-owned television; BBS Terefayina launched the ‘Kengere ya BBS ne MTN’ Bicycle Challenge.
The event is scheduled for 5th and 6th February 2022 having failed to take place last year due to Covid-19.
Coined ‘Kengere ya BBS ne MTN’, the bicycle racing competition which will be broadcast live on BBS Terefayina, will encompass all the 18 counties (Masaza) of Buganda with the goal of promoting unity and strengthening culture in the kingdom.
The competition will draw participation of representatives from all the 18 counties of Buganda who gather in Buddu where the challenge will take place.
Each county (Ssaza) team will be selected by the cycling committee in consultation with the respective county sports committees from the various local competitions they organize.
Speaking during the launch held at the BBS Terefayina studios in Bulange Mengo, Ronald Muwaya the MTN Uganda Trade Marketing Coordinator said that MTN Uganda is honoured to be involved in such a noble cause for it ties in directly with the telecom’s business pillar of togetherness.
“At MTN, we believe that the community is the bedrock of success in any society, hence our dedication to drive shared growth, unity and prosperity in all our partnerships. Today is no different. Kengere ya BBS ne MTN seeks to cultivate socio-economic development and transformation amongst the people of Buganda,” he said.
‘Kengere ya BBS ne MTN’ was earlier launched in May 2021 in commemoration of the five-year existence of BBS Terefayina, however, the competition was affected by the emergence of the Delta variant of the coronavirus which pushed the country into lockdown.
The Ppokino of Buddu, Owek. Jude Muleke lauded MTN’s efforts in strengthening relationships with the communities in which it operates noting that the bicycle challenge will bear fruit in breeding unity in the different counties of Buganda.
“For more than five years now, BBS Terefayina continues to provide quality services thanks in part to partnerships such as this one with MTN, which hinges on spurring socio-economic growth of the community. Through this partnership, we hope to entrench cultural roots in the people of Buganda to ensure fortitude of the kingdom,” he noted.
Previously held and relished as a social event in Buganda Kingdom, Bicycling commonly referred to as Obugaali became obsolete and was only revived in November 2020, following the creation of the Buganda Cycling Committee.
According to the Ppokino, ‘Kengere ya BBS ne MTN’ challenge is a step in the right direction towards reviving the once vibrant sport in the kingdom.
Besides being a socially entertaining sport, cycling confers unique health benefits like improved strength, balance, and coordination, making it a great sport. The rules and regulations governing the ‘Kengere ya BBS ne MTN’ Bicycle Challenge will be released ahead of the event.
Former Uganda Cranes defender Henry Kalungi is pleased to have carried a successful charity drive on Wednesday through his foundation.
The Henry Kalungi Foundation continued its yearly tradition of supporting the underprivileged children by handing out items of need to ensure a change in their lives.
Unlike previous years, the entity didn’t access all the required sports gear that was donated from abroad due to delays in shipping and transportation.
However, the volunteers and founder Kalungi took part in activities like soccer, netball before handing over shirts, balls and boots to the football loving children.
There was fine dinning and cake cutting in the later part of the day to cap a successful event of giving back to the community at Buganda Road Primary School.
Kalungi expressed gratitude at the opportunity to contribute to the children. “It was such a blessing to be able to share a special day with over 350 kids,” he told MTN Sports.
“The joy and happiness on their faces makes everything worth it. We want to thank everyone that is involved with our foundation and we look forward to continue sharing love and bringing hope.”
The organization will continue work with another outreach in Bulemeezi as they embark on ensuring change in the lives of different communities.
