Game 5: UCA XI v MCC | Two-Day Game: Day 2 Summary
UCA XI won the toss and elected to bat 1st
Match Ended in a draw
The Uganda Cricket Association XI experienced how to the test game goes after facing MCC in the version on Tuesday.
Over the two days, the visitors showed that they are more familiar with this format of the game as David Murphy’s century (101) put the visitors ahead.
The hosts had amassed 164 in their 1st innings, MCC scoring 252/8 before declaring, and by the close of play the UCA XI was on 47/0.
The visitors were very happy with their performance against the UCA XI after losing to them in their first tour match in Jinja.
We are happy to come through the two day game very well. We lost our first game and this tour against the same side so we were looking for some revenge. We lost a couple wickets yesterday but the boys managed to put it together very well and in the end we put on a very good total. We have loved playing in Entebbe and we are looking forward to coming back here to finish the tour off with a win
George Thurstance, MCC Captain
Cricket Cranes’ head coach was happy with the experience his charges got saying it will help develop their minds.
We didn’t bat as well as we should have on the first day but the boys were better on day two which was a great lesson. Two-day cricket is very important in the development of players because it tests you mentally and for us it’s important that we play a couple of two day games as we prepare for white ball cricket. We have enjoyed playing against the MCC and it’s been a great experience for the whole group.
Laurence Mahatlane, Cricket Cranes Head Coach
The MCC will conclude their tour to Uganda with a game against the Chairman’s XI in Entebbe on Thursday.
The Uganda Cricket Cranes have been voted by Uganda Sports Press Association (USPA) as the sports personalities of the month of September.
Coach Laurence Mahatlane’s lads claimed the inaugural Africa T20 Cup after defeating Tanzania by 8 wickets.
The feat meant they are currently the best team in the T20 version on the continent outside South Africa, Namibia, and Zimbabwe.
“Thank you @USPAmedia for voting the Cricket Cranes as the Sports Personalities for the month of September. We are the African Champions,” wrote Uganda Cricket Association’s social media.

Led by captain Brian Masaba bowled first after the visitors won the toss and elected to bat first.

MCC posted a paltry 101 all out inside 37 overs and in the chase, Roger Mukasa and Simon Ssesazi had an opening stand of 45.
3 wickets thereafter fell in quick succession with Brian Masaba at one drop falling for zero.

The Cricket Cranes coach was selected for the role after guiding Uganda to the inaugural ACA Africa T20 Challenge Cup trophy.
Uganda defeated Tanzania by 8 wickets in the final thanks to Riazat Ali Shah’s heroics in the 18th over to draw the Pearl in pole position for victory.
Mahatlane will be in charge of a team of 18 players selected from the 8 participating sides.
Among the 18 players will be; the man of the moment and the tournament’s best batsman Riazat Ali Shah, Kenneth Waiswa, Cosmas Kyewuta, Juma Miyagi, and Alpesh Ramjani.
The best players will compete against select sides from Europe and Asia with the dates for the same events to be communicated.
ACA Africa T20 Cup Challenge:
FINAL: Uganda v Tanzania
Toss: Uganda won the toss and elected to bowl 1st
Match Summary:
Tanzania 174/5 20 overs
Uganda 175/2 20 overs
Riazat Ali Shah 98 not out
Deus Muhumuza 50
Uganda won by 8 wickets
Uganda Cricket Cranes defeated Tanzania by 8 wickets to claim the inaugural ACA Africa T20 Cup in Benoni, South Africa on Friday.
Tanzania had won at least 35 overs of the whole game but when it came down to the final 5 overs the game turned in favor of Uganda.
Cricket Cranes’ Riazat Ali Shah clobbered 24 runs off the 18th to bring the equation to 24 off 12 balls.
That situation made it any team’s game and whoever panicked would drop the ball, a misfiled on the 5th ball of the 19th over meant Uganda get 9 runs from the over instead of 5, therefore, requiring 16 off the final 6 balls.
A set Riazat Ali Shah didn’t need all six balls to score the balance with two big sixes and a couple between the wickets sealing a memorable victory.
Uganda won the toss and elected to bowl 1st but that didn’t go according to plan as Tanzania got stuck in hitting the Uganda bowlers all over the pack, Tanzania was cruising at a healthy rate of 11 per over until Captain Brian Masaba and Alpesh Ramjani slowed things down for a while.
Tanzania eventually finished on 174/5, Deus Muhumuza with 2/15, and Juma Miyagi and Cosmas Kyewuta picking a wicket each.
The chase didn’t get off to a great start for Uganda, Captain Brian Masaba trapped LBW in the 1st over but Simon Ssesazi and Deus Muhumuza (50) repaired the run chase but were still behind the required rate for long periods of time.
Simon Ssesazi (18) lost his wicket trying to up the ante and the arrival of Riazat Ali Shah didn’t move things up quickly.
However, with the required rate up to 13, Riazat Ali Shah broke the shackles and took the attack to Tanzania who panicked up pressure to hand Uganda a win that looked secure for them for large parts of the game.
The win means that Uganda claims the Africa Cup without dropping a game with their last two games being the real tests of the whole tournament.
The five wins should also improve Uganda’s 25th place in the global T20 rankings when the new rankings are released.
ACA Africa T20 Cup Challenge: Uganda vs. Kenya
Kenya 105/8 18 overs
Kenneth Waiswa 4/22
Juma Miyagi 2/13
Uganda 107/7 17.3/18 overs
Riazat Ali Shah 48
Simon Ssesazi 22
Uganda won by 3 wickets
Ugandan all-rounder Riazat Ali Shah played a much-needed innings to aid his country in defeating Kenya by three wickets on Wednesday in the ACA Africa T20 Cup Challenge.
The Pearl required 22 runs off 18 balls and with Cricket Cranes 5 wickets down, Riazat delivered without fail.
Riazat decided to take matters into his own hands and in the 17th over, he scored 18 runs off Lucas Oluoch to reduce the equation from 22 to 4 runs.
Despite losing his wicket going for glory, he had done the lifting for the team with Pascal Murungi and Juma Miyagi finishing off the game as Uganda got the better of Kenya.
Uganda won the toss and elected to bowl first in overcast conditions with Cosmas Kyewuta and Juma Miyagi putting the squeeze on Kenya.
Irfan Karim (48) took the game to Uganda with some nasty blows with support from Nehemiah Odhiambo (23) and Kenya finished on 105/8 in their 18 overs.
In reply, Deus Muhumuza and Brian Masaba fell cheaply but Simon Ssesazi (22) and Riazat Ali Shah (48) stood out with the bat.
Uganda qualifies for the final and will wait for the winner between Botswana and Tanzania. A win against Kenya also means that Uganda will for now keep Kenya behind them in the T20 rankings.
The final will be played tomorrow afternoon at Wilmore Park.
The Cricket Cranes have arrived in South Africa ahead of their participation in the 2022 Africa T20 Cup in Benoni.
Joseph Baguma, Munir Ismail, and Pascal Murungi traveled with the team and will most likely make their debuts on the side.
