The Baby Victoria Pearls have faltered at making their maiden U-19 women’s World Cup as their hopes were crushed by neighbors Rwanda.
Uganda won the toss and elected to bowl 1st but a resilient Rwanda made them work hard with the ball.
However, inform Henriette Ishimwe (36) and Merville Uwase (35) put on 60 for the second wicket partnership to help Rwanda finish on 97/6 in their 20 overs.
Rwanda didn’t let any Ugandan batters get into double figures with Henriette Ishimwe (4/9) ripping through the whole lineup.
A painful end to the World Cup dream for the Victoria Pearls, they will have to battle Namibia in the 3rd/4th playoff final on Monday. Rwanda will take on Tanzania in the main cup final.

Uganda U-19 girls made it to the semifinals of the T20 Women’s World Cup Qualifiers after collecting a 23-run win against Sierra Leone on Sunday.
The victory was an addition to their 4-wicket opening win against Namibia, Uganda qualifying for the semifinals.
Their final group game will be against host Botswana, a tie that they need to win to finish top of the log.
Sierra Leone won the toss and elected to bowl. Uganda struggled at the start especially after losing opener Proscovia Alako at 30/2 in 10 overs.
Sandra Achawo (48) and Patricia Timong (29) however turned up in the last 10 overs to help Uganda finish on 107/4 in their 20 overs.
Patricia Timong did a spectacular bowling job with 2/16, Rachel Achan complementing her with 1/11.
Uganda returns to action on Tuesday morning against host Botswana.
Uganda Cricket Cranes coach Lawrence Mahatlane is keen on offering more youngsters opportunities to craft their art at the top stage.
Despite a failed T20 World Cup and Challenge League B campaign, the South African is looking to open more doors for younger stars on the national team.
Exciting teenager Juma Miyagi has recently been offered the chance to deliver for the Cranes but he will now be joined by U19 captain Pascal Murungi, Joseph Baguma, and Munir Ismail.
The trio has started training with the national team alongside U19 World Cup wicket-keeper Cyrus Kakuru.
“It’s important to know and understand our depth and if players can handle international pressure,” Mahatlane told Daily Monitor.
“The main aim is to give them experience around the national team. No one really knows when the right time is. Frank Nsubuga got picked at 16.
“These two youngsters were outstanding at the World Cup. They bring energy and freshness. I am sure they would want to put their hands up for future selection,” he added.
Cricket Cranes’ next assignment will be the ICC Africa Men’s T20 Cup which will take place between September 16th to 23rd at Willowmoore Park in South Africa.

The Uganda U19 girls team has arrived in Gabarone, Botswana ahead of the ICC U-19 World Cup Qualifiers from September 1st to 13th.
The team guided by Head Coach Yusuf Nanga and his assistant Ivan Kakande will be staying at Avani Hotel located along 4727 Chuma Dr, Gaborone.
The youngsters will be seeking a spot at the 1st edition of the U-19 Women’s World Cup will be held in South Africa 2023.
“The U-19 girls have safely arrived at Avani Hotel Bostwana which will be their base for the next 12 days as they take part in the ICC U-19 World Cup Qualifiers,” read an update from Uganda Cricket Association.
“The action starts on Saturday when the girls take on Namibia.”
Uganda is in Group B alongside host Botswana, Namibia, and Sierra Leone while Group A has Nigeria, Rwanda, Tanzania, Malawi, and Mozambique.

The U-19 national team girls will be led by Jimia Muhammad as they head to Gaborone Botswana for the 1st edition of the U-19 Women’s World Cup Qualifiers from September 1st-13th.
The girls have been working hard in a training camp since August 14th under the guidance of Head Coach Yusuf Nanga and his assistant Ivan Kakande.
The 1st edition of the U-19 Women’s World Cup will be held in South Africa 2023 and the team will be seeking the lone ticket to the events.
Uganda is in Group B alongside host Botswana, Namibia and Sierra Leone. The top two sides will move on to the semi-finals and finals, and the winner of the tournament will earn the only single converted spot to the World Cup.
Group A has Nigeria, Rwanda, Tanzania, Malawi and Mozambique.
The squad of 14 players and 4 officials flew out of Uganda on Thursday early morning and are set to arrive in Botswana on Thursday evening. They will take on Namibia in their 1st game on Saturday morning.

Uganda Men’s National Cricket team, the Cricket Cranes will resume training ahead of the inaugural edition of the ACA Africa T20 Cup.
The tournament, due September 16-23, will be held in South Africa and competed for by the continent’s Associate Members.
Uganda is in Pool A alongside Ghana, Nigeria, and Malawi while Pool B has Kenya, Botswana, Cameroon, and Mozambique.
Cricket Cranes will be looking to improve their global rankings after returning on a high despite failing by Net Run Rate to qualify for the next stage after the Challenge League B tournament.
The team will return to training on Monday, August 29 at Lugogo and will play two T20 games on Tuesday and Thursday.
The ACA T20 Africa Cup was originally scheduled to take place in 2020 before the COVID-19 pandemic struck.
The host cities for the inaugural ICC Women’s U19 T20 World Cup have been announced by the organizers.
The U19 Uganda women’s team is undergoing training to make the cut if they win the Africa qualifiers due next month in Botswana.
While the U19 tournament will happen in January 2023, the Africa qualifier tournament is set to take place from the 1st to the 14th of September.
The event will bring together nine countries including hosts Botswana, Malawi, Mozambique, Nigeria, Rwanda, Sierra Leone, Tanzania, and Uganda.
The team that will finish at the summit of the qualifiers will book a ticket to represent Africa in the World Cup 2023 which will take place in South Africa.
The host cities according to the ICC Cricket Website will be “Benoni and Potchefstroom.”
Benoni is a town in Ekurhuleni municipality, Gauteng while Potchefstroom is an academic city in the North West Province of South Africa.
15 teams have been already decided (Australia, India, England, New Zealand, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, West Indies, United States of America, Zimbabwe, United Arab Emirates, Indonesia, Netherlands), and the final spot will be confirmed at the conclusion of the Africa Qualifier in September.
Uganda Cricket Cranes all-rounder Dinesh Nakrani has been ranked as the best-arm bowler in T20Is world over currently.
According to curators Sportstar, Dinesh still holds the best figures from last year as Uganda defeated Lesotho in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Sub Regional Africa Qualifier Group A match.
Uganda won the match by 10 wickets (with 98 balls remaining), Dinesh picking 6 wickets for 7 runs in 4 overs.
Saud Islam and Simon Ssesazi’s partnership of 27 runs (not out) helped offset Lesotho’s first innings total of 26 all out.
Dinesh is followed by Namibia’s Johannes J Smit and West Indies’ Obed McCoy with 7/10 and 7/17 respectively.

The Boy’s Schools Cricket Week 2022 came to a climax as Busoga College Mwiri claimed the title, their 19 in history.
Mwiri faced Nyakasura in the final that was cut short by rain after Mwiri had scored 126/9 in 15 overs in the 1st innings.
Nyakasura had only batted for only one over when the heavens opened and as per the playing conditions, the options available included either bowling to stumps or tossing a coin to choose the winner.
According to Uganda Cricket Association, “The only available option due to a wet field was tossing a coin which Nyakasura School refused to take.”
“Busoga College Mwiri was then declared the winners of the tournament as per tournament playing conditions.”
Enroute the final, Busoga College Mwiri had defeated Jinja SSS by 7 wickets while Nyakasura overcame Kololo SSS by 37 runs in the morning semifinals.

Uganda failed to advance to the next round of the Cricket World Cup Qualifiers despite table toppers Jersey losing to Kenya in their final game.
Jersey and Uganda finished on the same number of points but Jersey went through by having a superior Net Run Rate.
Uganda fielded an unchanged team from the team that defeated Bermuda and Simon Ssesazi (137) and Arnold Otwani (129) put on a record opening stand of 290.
The exit of the two saw the entry of Dinesh Nakrani (50) and Riazat Ali Shah (50) and the two combined to put on 103 runs off just 43 balls.
Uganda finished on 397/2 in 50 overs their highest total in List A cricket and set themselves up for a win.
In the chase, Hong Kong lost two quick wickets, Frank Nsubuga (3/27), Henry Ssenyondo (2/27), and Frank Akankwasa, (2/9) ensuring no heroes for Hong Kong as they were bundled out for 179.
It was another so close yet so far campaign for Cricket Cranes as the four defeats in the last 10 games greatly affected their pursuit of ODI status.
