Bunyoro Kitara Kingdom launched an inter-clan football and inter-county bicycle racing competition on Friday, August 26, 2023.

The opening ceremony was held at Booma Ground, Masindi in the presence of the Kingdom’s Prime Minister Andrew Byakutaga Ateenyi.

While talking to the Mansindi dwellers, Owek. Byakatuga rallied the masses to embrace the games so as to create fun and unity among each other.

“These games play a pivotal role in fostering clan unity as a kingdom,” the Prime Minister said.

“We extend our heartfelt appreciation to MTN for their multifaceted backing,” he added.

The football clan tournament participants are Abaisanza, Abakorogo, Ababwijwa, Ababopi, Abasazima and Abagabu.

On the same day, the bicycle race got underway as participants took on each other through a conquering and challenging route.

The reason for the tournament is to nurture talent and bolster unity among the clans that make up the kingdom.

MTN awarded the first five competitors in the men’s race (Ali Mugahya, Ivan Ayebale, Ronald Mayinja, Young Brown, Tifu Byakita) winning UGX 500000, 400000, 300000, 200000 and 100000 respectively.

In the Women’s race, Rehema Nyakabito, Maria Mubu, Sarah Nyandera, Enid Ayebale and Evelyn Ayebale walked away with UGX 400000, 300000, 200000, 100000 and 50000 respectively.

Uganda Cranes midfielder Shafick Kagimu was on the score sheet for his new club FC Rabotnicki.

The former URA FC midfielder scored the only goal for the Macedonian side as it lost to Shkendija in a painful manner.

After joining FC Rabotnicki from Kenya’s Gor Mahia, the midfielder has already proved his worth after staging an emphatic show on his debut.

In the 28th minute, Kagimu found the back of the net but his side went on to concede two avoidable goals late in the game.

Kagimu’s long range shot into the net gave Rabotnicki the required start hence having proper control to the game.

But going into the second half, they lost steam and suffered a big blow in the dying minutes of the game.

In the 91st minute, Bruno Dita headed home to level matters and restore the hope of Shkendija.

Five minutes later, Kransqi gave the visitors the lead as Rabotnicki unceremoniously surrendered their victory at the Boris Trajkovski-Madjari Stadium.

Uganda Cranes forward Rogers Mugisha has switched to Kenya Giants Gor Mahia in the ongoing transfer window.

Mugisha joins Kenyan switching from Uganda Premier League side UPDF FC.

He was among the eight entrants that were announced during the league opener against Sofa Paka which was played on Saturday.

Mugisha had an impressive show with UPDF as well the Uganda U20 during the continental tournament played in Egypt.

The youngster will share a dressing room with his compatriot Patrick Kaddu under the stewardship of former Uganda Cranes coach Jonathan McKinstry.

Gor Mahia has been busy in the market, doing all it takes to defend the title of the Kenyan League.

St Mary’s Kitende 1(4)-1(2) Amus College

St Mary’s Kitende beat Amus College to win their 14th title of East Africa Games.

Kitende held their nerves to register a 4-2 penalty shoot victory against Amus College in Huye, Rwanda on Sunday.

Lanky forward Fazil Tumwine placed Kitende in the lead in the ninth minute off a rebounder from a close range.

Amus College’s goalkeeper tried to palm away Ronald Madoi’s powerful header before it fell onto Tumwine’s feet.

Allan Oyirwoth levelled matters in the 27th minute to restore Amus College’s hope with a spectacular finish.

Both sides failed to change the score board in normal time and the centre referee sent them into decisive spot-kicks.

Derrick Kato, Johnson Kabagambe, Ronald Madoi and Rogers Torach scored for Kitende at the 12-yard mark.

Amos Ayikobua and Allan Oyirwoth converted their penalties for Amus College while Brian Toto and Shafick Wassagwa failed to find the back of the net.

In the classification game, St Henry’s College Kitovu edged Kibuli SS in a 2-1 victory to finish third.

CAF Champions League | Results

Vipers SC registered a narrow 2-1 victory over Jwaneng Galaxy in the CAF Champions but it was not enough to keep the hosts in the competition.

It was a tight but entertaining game as Vipers tried to fight for a come back at St Mary’s Stadium, Kitende on Saturday night.

Yunus Sentamu’s emphatic first half brace gave Vipers hope but failed to keep up to the speed in the second stanza of the game.

It was a dominant and brave show from the hosts who threw in the kitchen sink right from the start making it clear they badly wanted goals.

Mohammed Salem Ekbad found the first chance to place the hosts in the lead but his header off Sentamu’s delivery went narrowly wide.

In the 30th minute, the stadium erupted in joy and jubilation as Vipers took the lead through lethal forward Sentamu’s composed finish.

Seven minutes later, Abubaker Lawal nearly doubled the lead but his Lon range effort missed the target by just a whisker.

In the last minute of the first half, Sentamu completed a brace as he watched his shot go over and beyond Galaxy’s custodian as it strolled into the net.

The moment of madness came cam late in the 89th minute as Gilberto Baruti put a hold onto Vipers’ celebrations after finding the back of the net through a freekick.

On the final round of the preliminary games, Jwaneng Galaxy will face Orlando Pirates who beat Djabal 4-0 on aggregate.

National Champions Vipers SC will be on a hunt for 3-0 victory or more as they take on Jwaneng Galaxy in the CAF Champions League Preliminary round.

The two sides will face off in a night football fiesta at St Mary’s Stadium, Kitende.

The Venoms suffered a 2-0 loss to Jwaneng Galaxy in the first leg and so they face a huge mountain ahead of today’s assignment.

Leonard Martins Neiva, Vipers head coach is confident that his troops can manage to fight and claim a comeback against Botswana’s side.

“We are very focused on the game and ready physically as well as technically for the game,” Neiva told Vipers media.

“We believe that we can come back for sure, we can do it if we work out a few points here and there,” he added.

“We need to play so offensively. We need to score and keep thinking about scoring as we ensure that no goal is conceded.”

Vipers managed to play in the CAF Champions League groups last season so they will fight to see that they keep their status intact.

The aggregate winner of the tie will face the victor between Orlando Pirates and Djabal FC in the final round.

FUFA Super 8 | Results

KCCA FC 1-2 URA FC

URA FC registered a 2-1 victory against KCCA FC in the FUFA Super 8 at MTN Omondi Stadium, Lugogo on Friday.

It was a deserving victory for the Tax Collectors who recently lost their head coach Sam Timbe.

In the fourth minute, Enoch Walusimbi fouled Usama Arafat in the dangerous area and the center referee awarded the hosts a penalty.

Moses Waiswa stepped up to the occasion but Denis Otim made a superb save to keep the scores goalless after five minutes.

In the 23rd minute, Ivan Ahimbisibwe’s powerful effort was too much for KCCA goalkeeper Antony Emojong to handle, and URA took the lead.

Five minutes later, Emojong made a stunning save denying Ahimbisibwe who had gone through a forest of bodies.

At half an hour mark, Filbert Obenchan headed home a free header after being set up by Saidi Mayanja to level matters.

Joseph Ssemujju remained with a keeper to beat after making a good run but his effort only found the side of the net.

Seven minutes into the second half, Muhammad Shaban was so close to giving KCCA the lead but Otim stretched to keep URA in the game.

In the last minute of the game of the game, Norman Nuwamanya set up Laban Tibita who regained URA’s lead late.

It was a painful loss to the Kasasiro Boys who had turned up in heavy numbers for the evening football fiesta.

The result means URA FC will play BUL FC in the finals of FUFA Super 8 while KCCA FC will face SC Villa in the semifinals of the tournament.

KCCA FC will seek to maintain a perfect run under their new coach Sergio Traguil as they face a URA FC side reeling from the loss of head coach Sam Timbe in the FUFA Super 8.

The Kasasiro Boys kick-started the campaign by eliminating Wakiso Giants in a 2-0 victory. On their way to the finals now stand the Tax Collectors.

During the press conference, Traguil urged his troops to stick to the plan so that they show something special.

“We need to show something special in this game,” he told the KCCA media.

“We our opponents have a very young squad and have signed over 10 players but if we stick to our principles and do things we have been doing in training all week then we shall have the edge over them,” he added.

While URA wants to fight for maximum points in honor of their fallen head coach Sam Timbe.

URA FC assistant coach Fred Muhumuza revealed that it’s been a hard time for them though the spirit is gradually improving.

“It has been tough times for us following the death of a father figure in Coach Sam Timbe but thank God we returned to training and the spirit is good,” Muhumuza noted.

“We have told players that Timbe wanted success and now they have to win to make him proud. We are playing a good side but if we are to win silverware then we ought to be set and ready to face anyone,” he concluded.

The last time the two teams played was at Metha Stadium, Lugazi as URA FC beat KCCA FC in a 2-0 well-deserved victory.

FUFA has announced that there will be a minute of silence before kickoff in memory of Timbe.

Buja Queens registered a 2-1 narrow victory against FAD FC in the last group game of the ongoing CAF Champions League Qualifiers on Thursday.

It was an emotional day at FUFA Technical Centre, Njeru as some teams jubilated while others supported their faces by the palm.

It was a tight game between the two sides as Djibouti’s FAD FC looked for their first point while Buja badly wanted a victory to go further.

Ruth Ingosu fired Buja Queens ahead breaking down a strong and tight backline of FAD FC.

Five minutes later, FAD continued to frustrate Buja as they emphatically equalised through Nadia Nour to create a tense atmosphere.

However, with three minutes left on the clock, Teopista Situma scored a golden goal that sent Buja into the final four.

In the other game, CBE easily went past Yei Joint Stars in a 4-0 victory to finish on top of Group A.

Ariet Odong, Loza Abera, Senayt Bogale and Mesay Temsegen were on the score sheet to give the Ethiopians a well-deserved victory.

The results today confirm the hosts Kampala Queens will not be part of the semifinals as their road comes to an end.

The duo will join Vihiga Queens and JKT Queens which qualified from Group B.

The Semifinals will be played on Sunday as CBE FC will face Vihiga Queens while Buja Queens will play JKT Queens.

2023 FEASSA Games | Thursday, August 24

St Mary’s Kitende registered a 3-0 victory against Dagoretti High School in the ongoing 2023 Federation of East Africa Secondary School Sports Association (FEASSSA) Games in Rwanda on Thursday.

Kitende’s goals were scored by Abubaker Walusimbi, Hakim Mutebi and Rogers Torach to give Uganda’s champions maximum points.

Uganda’s Kitende secured their third victory in the group to go up to 10 points in four matches played.

Kitende joins Kibuli who also come from Uganda and reigning champions who finished second in Group B.

The duo will join Amus College and St Henry’s Kitovu who qualified from group A. This means it will be Uganda’s affair in the semi-finals.

To reach that level, St. Henry’s Kitovu edged St. Anthony Secondary in a 3-2 victory at Kamena ground.

While Amus College School thumped Tanzania’s Kalangala in a 7-2 landslide win at Kamena.
