Forward Charles Lwanga has finally completed a deal that will see him return to SC Villa.

Lwanga dramatically left SC Villa in 2020 to join the Kasasiro Boys but he is back to don the blue and white colours of a Joogo.

According to Sports Nation, the striker has signed a three year employment contract that will tie him at the club until 2026.

Lwanga has started training with SC Villa and will fight for the starting berth against Denis Ojara who takes the role of leading the team upfront.

Villa managed to beat competition from Vipers SC and Rwanda’s Kiyovu that were also pushing for Lwanga’s signature.

At Villa Lwanga is guaranteed playing0 time since the competition is not tight like it was at KCCA FC.

While playing for Joggo Young, Lwanga scored 33 goals in 35 games and the star-man performance led to his graduation on to the senior team.

Villa will be playing Marons in the FUFA Super 8 as they seek to start the campaign on a positive note.

Uganda Premier League side Maroons FC has announced the signing of Hannington Ssebwalunyo ahead of the 2023/24 campaign.

Ssebwalunyo, the free agent joins the Prison wardens shortly after being released by URA FC.

The lanky custodian is expected to feel the void left by Simon Tamale who recently made a professional move to join Rwanda’s Rayon Sports.

The gaffer has been awarded a two-year employment contract that will see him stay in Luzira atleast until 2025.

In his first interview with the Maroons FC media team, he expressed his excitement about joining such a promising project.

“Comming back to Maroons is something very special for me and my family, Luzira is a place I call home. We shall achieve a lot here collectively,” he noted.

Ssebwalunyo hardly got playing time failing to beat the competition by Nafian Alionzi who also doubled as the team’s captain.

But at Maroons he is sure of playing and regaining his craft to emulate the great goalkeeper he has been in the previous seasons.

Tamale was named the best goalkeeper last season after making 13 clean sheets in a campaign that attracted suitors across the region.

Ssebwalunyo’s first assignment will be keeping his goal area safe as the Maroons face SC Villa in the FUFA Super 8 on Thursday August 10.

BUL FC head coach Abbey Kikomeko has called upon fans to witness a huge goal harvest as they play national champions Vipers SC.

BUL will be hosting Vipers SC in the FUFA Super 8 championship at FUFA Technical Centre, Njeru on Thursday evening.

It will be Kikomeko’s first official game since taking over the coaching role at the Jinja-based side.

“I call upon all fans to come and witness a great goal harvest,” Kikomeko said during a pre-match press conference.

“We are playing against Vipers, one of the biggest clubs in the country. It will be our first game in the Super 8 and it’s a perfect match to help us know where we lie ahead of the new season.”

“The players are in good shape and I expect them to stage a maximum performance. We need to give it our best so that we prove that we badly want the title.”

“The team had the challenge of scoring less last season. It’s an aspect we have given attention to in training. We also managed to bring players that we know shall get us the goals,” he stressed.

According to the gaffer, BUL has no player injured and the whole squad will be available for selection.

Vipers SC are the defending champions of the Super 8 tournament having beaten KCCA FC 2-0 in the last edition.

Uganda Premier League side, URA FC has finally announced the signing of Laban Tibita.

The pint-sized midfielder was rumoured to have completed the deal way back but finally, it’s now official.

Tibita has been awarded a two-year employment contract that will tie him to the club until at least 2025.

In his maiden interview with the URA FC media team, he expressed his willingness to serve.

“I am happy to be here and I am ready to serve,” Laban was quoted by the club’s official website before adding; “I want my time here to count and I want to help the club win trophies.”

“URA FC is a big club and totally different from my previous club but am equally ready for the competition.”

Tibita joins URA switching from his boyhood club Busoga United. He has also played for the Maroons and Tooro United in the top tier.

He was so crucial in helping the club survive relegation in the just-concluded Uganda Premier League campaign.

He scored seven goals, assisted on four occasions, and carried home the Man of the Match plaques five times.

He becomes the 12th signing in the ongoing transfer window. URA will kick start the campaign against Bright Stars in the FUFA Super 8 in the curtain-raising tournament before real business gets under way.

Uganda Premier League newbies Kitara FC continue to strengthen their squad ahead of the 2023/24 campaign.

Having been promoted to the top tier as the 2022/23 FUBA Big League champion, Kitara feels they have a statement to make to retain their bragging rights.

Brian Aheebwa is the latest addition to their arsenal after the arrival of a large number of players.

Aheebwa joins the Hoima-based side after a poor run of three years at KCCA FC. The forgettable reign of Aheebwa at MTN Omondi Stadium was underlined by injuries, limited playing time, and little harvest in terms of goal scoring.

He joined KCCA FC after showing potential while at Mbarara FC but unfortunately, that hardly came to life after the switch.

His move to Kitara will prove a new stage for him to redefine himself to replicate the huge potential he flashed while in Mbarara.

The Royals also have a new gaffer in Brian Ssenyondo replacing Sam Ssimbwa who guided their promotion into the top-tier league.

They have so far released 15 players and shipped in close to 10 players with sources to the club indicating that business at Kitara is still going on.

Lango Province becomes the first team to take up a spot in the quarter-finals of the ongoing 2023 FUFA Drum.

Lango Province easily registered a 3-0 victory against Kigezi Province in the FUFA Drum at Akii Bua Stadium, Lira on Sunday evening.

Innocent Maduka failed to tap home Moses Aliro’s fine cutback with only two minutes into the game.

Two minutes later, Aliro was left with a goalkeeper to beat after Denis Omedi released the forward but Isaac Mulindwa rushed off his line to pull off a stunning save.

In the 54th minute, Darius Ojok finally broke the deadlock with a powerful effort into the back of the net.

It was the first touch of Ojok who had just come onto the field off the bench to create an instant impact on the frozen duel.

Two minutes later, Aliro set up Ojok in a great place steps away from the box but the youngster’s effort was collected by the Kigezi’s custodian Mulindwa.

With 15 minutes left on the clock, the scorer Ojok turned into a provider setting up Aliro through a defence-splitting pass.

Aliro lopped the ball above goalkeeper Mulindwa to double Lango’s lead in a goal that sent the crowd on its feet.

Three minutes to full-time, Dickens Okwir hit the last nail in Kigezi’s coffin after being set up by Aliro to conclude the business of the day.

Busoga Province and Bugisu Province played to a one-all stalemate in the FUFA Drum in Kamuli on Sunday evening.

The game was troubled by a heavy downpour making the playing surface a bit challenging but regardless action went on.

Like it’s the norm in the Busoga region, the crowds turned up once again to see that the sounds from the drum are heard.

In the 21st game, Isaac Wagoina placed the hosts in the lead to finally place the ball into the back of the net having missed several chances.

Bugisu tried to make an instant reply but Bugisu’s backline commanded by Bakari Magunda and Isaac Isinde hardly allowed a ball past them.

Five minutes past half an hour mark, Emmanuel Mukisa restored parity with a great finish to bounce back Bugisu into the game.

The second half was right as both sides preferred to guard their goal areas than commit bodies upfront so as to take up the lead.

It was a golden point for Bugisu away from home after suffering a 2-1 loss to West Nile in Arua last weekend.

The FUFA Drum will take a break of two weeks and return after the FUFA Super 8 business.

How they lined up

Busoga XI: Didi Muhammad (Gk), Ibrahim Kazidula, Derrick Basoga, Bakari Magunda, Isaac Isinde, Pascal Ngobi, Jerome Kirya, Daniel Shabene, Yunus Sibira, Isaac Wagoina, Laban Tibita

2023 FUFA Drum | Results

Buganda Province registered a 2-0 victory against Bunyoro Province in the FUFA Drum at Kigaaya Primary School ground on Saturday evening.

It was a stunning victory from Buganda who got to winning ways after a tough narrow 1-0 defeat to Tooro Province last weekend.

It seemed to be the weakest side for Buganda Province, but it showed great disciplined and composure to seal off a well-deserved victory away from home.

In the 37th minute, John Wesely Kisakye finally broke the deadlock at a familiar ground he was playing at for Kitara FC last season.

At half-time, Buganda had a narrow win against Bunyoro Province who were backed up by a huge crowd.

In the second stanza, Ronald Ssempala scored the second to double the lead for the visitors to widen the edge.

At full time the fans of Bunyoro were so disappointed after a great fight with their players but hardly earned a positive.

After the game, Buganda Province chairperson Abdul Kawulu revealed that they still lack support from the fans but are doing all it takes to sort out the challenge.

“We are doing all it takes to see that we pull fans. We are missing their support since the games have come on board at the same time as the Masaza Cup,” he said.

“I call upon the Kingdom, Members of Parliament and all businessmen to support our team because we need to lift the flag way high and above,” he added.

Teso Province and Acholi Province shared spoils in a one-all draw in the 2023 FUFA Drum on Saturday evening.

The game pulled huge crowds and the party was staged accompanied by drums and dances from both camps.

In the 18th minute, roving full-back James Begisa found himself in the best of positions to tap home from close range thus placing Iteso ahead.

Dominic Ayella levelled matters with a low powerful effort capitalising from a loose ball by Iteso’s goalkeeper who punched away Tito Okello’s shot earlier.

Isaac Ogwang’s freekick got deflected by the wall before it kissed the frame and Teso was awarded a corner kick.

Later on, Acholi’s custodian Detrick Ochan was brought to action punching away Ben Ocen’s teasing corner kick before he was fouled.

As the first stanza was coming to an end Acholi nearly took the lead through Okello’s long-range oozing shot but it went wide by an inch.

The crowds got busier in the second stanza as they rallied behind their troops.

Ibrahim Orit tried to square the ball in search of Nathan Oloro but the defender made a timely interception to calm the storm.

In the 76th minute, Okello beat his marker to pace before he released a low hard effort but it was blocked by Teso’s defender.

Acholi had a mix-up in their defence before the ball fell to Ivan Eyamu’s foot but the second half’s effort was far from required.

In the final minute of the game, Okello nearly stole the victory at death but he mistimed the ball hence getting injured.
