Buhimba United secured a 2-1 victory against Football Classroom in the Uganda Cup at the Yes Centre, Nsambya on Saturday.
Despite attacks on either side, the first stanza ended goalless as the tone was set for the second stanza of the game.
Five minutes into the second half, Football Classroom took the lead after an own goal by Buhimba United Saints defender.
Job Owori levelled matters in the 57th minute with a solo effort before guiding the ball into the back of the net.
Five minutes later, Lucas Mola put the icing on the cake with effort slotted past the near post.
Buhimba United Saints booked their slot in the round of 32 as the prestigious tournament goes on.
Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) giants AS Vita have confirmed the signing of experienced goalkeeper Saidi Keni.
The former SC Villa goalkeeper has signed an eight-month contract that will keep him at the club until August 2025.
The custodian switches from the Ethiopian side Shashemene City a side he joined in September 2023.
Speaking about the development, Keni openly shared his excitement to join AS Vita.
“I am excited to join AS Vita. The club has a lot of big ambitions for now and the future. Something that prompted my decision to join,” Keni said.
“I am ready to give in all I can so that I achieve all the set targets,” he added.
With Keni’s arrival, Vita continues to make continental ambitions clear as they strengthen the squad
St Mary’s Kitende (SMASK) has appointed highly rated Hassan Zungu as their head coach.
Zungu replaces Daniel Male, who has attained a permanent Vipers’ technical team role.
The gaffer brings lots of experience to SMASK after holding the same role at Jinja Secondary School since 2016.
He guided Jinja SS to several titles such as the district and zonal titles.
Speaking about the new role, the gaffer revealed that he wants to maintain the winning character but improve on the style of play.
“It’s a great honour to join Kitende. They are a big school that has won a lot of things and under my reign, we need to maintain that,” he said.
“However I need to instil my style of play. I enjoy free-flowing football but also encouraging the players to enjoy having the ball on their feet,” he added.
“It will not be easy, but I love trying new things. So let’s see what we can create as a team because am fully committed to succeeding at Kitende.”
The Uganda Premier League (UPL) second-round fixture has been released today, Friday, January 24, 2025.
According to the UPL secretariat the 2024-25 season second round is set to get underway on Tuesday, February 11.
The announcement was made by UPL manager Paul Kabaikaramu via a morning show on FUFA TV.
“We are happy to announce the second round of the UPL returns on Tuesday, February 11,” Kabaikaramu stated.
The second round is set to serve exciting games just like it was in the first rounds as fans were entertained on different playgrounds.
Vipers concluded the first round on top of the log with 34 points collected in 15 games played.
Vipers will kickstart the second round with a home fixture as they host URA at St Mary’s Stadium, Kitende in a night fixture.

A first-half brace from Arafat Usama saw the Kasasiro through to the next round of the tournament they have won ten times.
Abdalla Mubiru’s charges started strong with the first chance of the game falling to Ettiene Katenga whose effort was palmed away after being set up by Derrick Nsibambi.
Barely ten minutes later, Nsibambi set up Usama for the opener, a curling effort that put KCCA in control of proceedings.
Usama turned provider returning the favour to Nsibambi but the forward’s header rattled the frame as the full-strength KCCA continued to pose all sorts of trouble for the hosts.
In the 27th minute, Usama completed his brace with a shot from the edge of the area as KCCA took a 2-0 lead to the break.
After the recess, substitute Yian Gatbel who was lively all afternoon after replacing Katenga had a chance to make it three but his effort rattled the woodwork just after the hour mark.
Nsibambi had a goal disallowed for offside.
In the other games played today, Rwenzori Lions eliminated Fufa Big League side Busoga United after a 2-1 win. Arafat Bwambale scored a brace for the hosts while Nicholas Mutenza netted the consolation for Busoga.
Uganda Premier League side has completed the signing of youngster Jimmy Logoro in the ongoing transfer window.
Logoro is a student of Kings College Buddo who put up a stunning show in the FUFA TV Cup that was played last year.
Speaking about the young prospect, Express head coach Badru Kaddu expressed his confidence in Logoro but added that he is a work in progress.
“We have identified a potentially good talent with exceptional skills and our role is to turn him into a good player,” Kaddu shared.
Reports indicate that the Red Eagles have also improved their squad with the acquisition of pacy forward Muhammad Kagawa Ssenoga.
Though Dauson Mafumu is the only confirmed departure and the team management will need to feel the void in the backline.

SC Villa registered a well-deserved 3-0 victory against Seeta United in a Uganda Cup Roun of 64 clash at Seeta Church of Uganda Primary School Playground on Thursday.
Aslam Ssemakula, Patrick Jonah Kakande and Arnold Odong scored the three goals as SC Villa bagged the bragging rights.
Ssemakula was quick to guide the ball in the third minute of the game as the visitors took an early lead.
The hosts stood tall and firm and completed the first half with just a goal down.
Kakande doubled SC Villa nine minutes into the second half with a well-taken penalty as the visitors further controlled the game.
Odong put the icing on the cake with a powerful header at the hour mark.
The win guides SC Villa to the round of 32 of the ongoing prestigious tournament.
Exciting youngster Alvin Birungi has extended his stay at Lugazi after putting pen to a five-year employment contract.
The contract is meant to keep him at the club until the end of the 2029/30 campaign.
The development was confirmed via the club’s official website on Tuesday, January 21, 2025.
“Winger Birungi Alvin Twiine has signed a new 5-year contract with Lugazi,” the statement partly reads.
Birungi joined Lugazi in September 2023 as a teenager but the forward has improved day by day meeting the demands of top-tier football.
He has so far made two assists in nine games played.
In the first round of the current campaign, Lugazi finished with 14 points from 15 matches.
New York Red Bulls II have signed Uganda Cranes midfielder Steven Sserwadda to a two-year MLS NEXT Pro contract that runs until the end of the 2026 season.
“We are happy to have Steven [Sserwadda] back with the squad,” said Head Coach Ibrahim Sekagya as quoted by the club website.“He is a hardworking midfielder, who will be valuable in our system and will bring great experience to the team.”
Sserwadda has played three seasons with Red Bulls II, appearing in 41 matches, scoring four goals and tallying two assists. He scored his first career MLS NEXT Pro goal against Philadelphia Union II on April 21, 2024 and tallied his first career MLS NEXT Pro assist against Carolina Core FC on September 1, 2024. The midfielder debuted with the club in a USL Championship match against the Tampa Bay Rowdies on October 16, 2021.
Sserwadda has appeared in two matches with the New York Red Bulls logging 27 minutes. He made his Major League Soccer debut against Atlanta United FC on June 30 while on a short-term agreement from Red Bulls II.
Sserwadda has made four appearances with the Uganda Cranes. He made his senior national team debut on March 25, 2022 against Tajikistan. The midfielder previously featured for the country at the U-20 and U-23 level, participating in the 2021 Africa U-20 Cup of Nations leading Uganda to a second-place finish while scoring two goals.
Before moving to New York, the midfielder played for KCCA FC. He’s featured for both the first team and academy level for the club. He won the Ugandan Premier League, Uganda Cup, and CECAFA Clubs Cup while with the side.
Busoga United secured a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Blacks Power in a FUFA Big League match held at Bugembe Stadium on Monday.
Nazir Sserwadda emerged as the hero of the day, scoring the decisive goal that earned the hosts all three points.
Despite mounting pressure from Blacks Power, the first half ended goalless as the visitors failed to capitalize on their chances.
The deadlock was finally broken in the 63rd minute when Sserwadda found the back of the net, putting Busoga United in the driver’s seat.
The win moves Busoga United up to ninth place on the table, with 17 points from 14 games.
Meanwhile, the loss leaves Blacks Power in second place with 29 points, one point behind league leaders Gaddafi.
