The development was confirmed via the club’s official website on Monday, June 2024 in the afternoon.

“Three players have been given the green light to leave the Eastern Giants after their employment contracts with the club expired.

“The three played a key role in our fantastic run in the 2021/22 season, leading the club to the famous Uganda Cup title and fourth place in the league.”

Among the three leaving, Wadyaka has spent the longest time at the Jinja-based club. He has spent six years at BUL since he switched camps from URA FC in 2017.

Last season he was a bit blunt scoring only four goals and as well collecting a few several assists.

South Sudan’s international Wani joined the side from Busoga United but he only managed to score one goal in the just-concluded campaign.

The custodian Kalyowa is the other player set to leave BUL, it will be the second time the player walks away. He first served the side from 2015 to 2017 before he returned in 2021.

Last season, BUL finished seventh on the 15-teamed log with 36 points gathered in 28 games.

Uganda Cranes head coach Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredejovic has expressed huge amounts of confidence after falling to Algeria 2-1 in the AFCON Qualifiers.

Uganda’s chances to qualify to the 2023 AFCON Cup now hang on a thread after losing to the Desert Foxes at Japoma Stadium in Cameroon on Sunday evening.

However, during the post-match interview, Micho sounded calm and only chose to carry the hope and fight to the last group game against Niger.

“A win against Niger can take us to the AFCON. The game is crucial and so we have to handle it with the much-needed attention,” Micho gladly said.

“I believe we deserved more from the match. However we didn’t get it and I believe that we learnt the hardest way, and we have no right to commit these mistakes in times ahead of us,” he continued.

Algeria’s goals were scored by Mohammed Amoura while Uganda’s only strike into the back of the net came through Fahad Bayo after being set up by Richard Basangwa.

Both goals conceded by Uganda were so avoidable since they came from cheap mistakes.

The first came after the custodian Salim Jamil gave away possession through a long blind pass before he later got punished.

Later on in the second stanza, Kayondo failed to deal with pacy Amoura who shrugged him off before Haithem Loucif and Riyad Mahrez combined to set him up.

“When you look at everything, I believe that we are fully aware that as a team with young players, we have no right to make mistakes because of this level of stiff competition. Mistakes are extremely expensive and we’ve learnt it in a hard manner.”

The Cranes qualification will rely on the result between Algeria and Tanzania. After losing to the Desert Foxes, Uganda will be wishing them all the best going forward.

Currently, Uganda is third with four points below Tanzania at seven points while Algeria is on the summit with 15.

2023 AFCON Qualifiers

September 2023

MTN Uganda in conjunction with FUFA organised a watch party for the game between Uganda Cranes and Algeria at the Old and New Taxi Park.

Mohamed El Amoura’s brace reduced the chances of Uganda Cranes’ chances of qualifying for the Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast.

That means it was a double completed by Algeria over Uganda at Japoma Stadium in Doula, Cameroon on Sunday.

The Cranes kicked off with a lot of urgency not giving much room to the 2019 AFCON champions as they preferred to play a long ball searching for Emmanuel Okwi.

Just after half an hour mark, Aziz Kayondo gave away a clear chance for Uganda to take the lead after going for power with room ahead of him only to see his effort sky above the frame.

Uganda kept knocking on the door with a brilliant interplay by Okwi and Rogers Mato but the run was blocked by Algeria’s defender.

Cranes lost possession in their half giving away the ball to Mohammed Amoura whose weak effort was calmly collected by custodian Salim Jamal.

Two minutes to the climax of the first stanza, Amoura gave the Desert Foxes the lead after capitalising on Salim’s blind pass, a mistake Uganda could easily avoid.

Just after the long break, Salim was brought into action making a stunning save to deny defender Ramy Bensebaini from close range.

In the first 10 minutes of the second stanza, Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredejovic made two changes introducing Richard Basangwa and Fahad Bayo for Milton Karisa and Bobosi Byaruhanga.

In the 63rd minute, Uganda was awarded a freekick in a good area and Okwi took the assignment but his effort went inches above the crossbar.

Two minutes later, Nabil Bantaleb and Riyad Mahrez combined to set up Amoura who doubled the lead hence widening the edge between the two sides.

Mato nearly created some magic but his powerful effort narrowly went wide before he threw his arms in the air.

Both Saidi Behrama and Islam Slimani came close but somehow missed to find the back of the net.

In the 87th minute, Bayo halved the deficit after tapping home Basangwa’s cross hence giving the home side a chance to restore parity.

The loss meant Algeria keep their perfect run alive with the fifth win in five games while Uganda suffer the third loss of the campaign.

Uganda is third on the group log with four points behind Tanzania second with seven points and Algeria at the summit with 15.

It’s halftime at Japoma Stadium in Doula, Cameroon in the Africa Cup of Nations Qualifiers match between Uganda Cranes and Algeria.

The match that has been played at a relatively high tempo is in favour of Algeria but the Cranes have shown intent in the forty-five minutes.

The Cranes played the half with a lot of urgency not allowing the North Africans time in possession and also tried to play a quick ball up front for Okwi, Karisa and Mato to chase.

In the 21st minute, Gift Fred intercepted a loose pass and found Milton Karisa out wide and the winger whipped in a ground ball for Farouk Miya who had a weak shot across the goal but couldn’t reach Mato.

Aziz Kayondo was the busiest Cranes defender but was up to the task as the Desert Foxes attacked mainly through their right wing.

With ten minutes to halftime, Okwi raced on another loose ball and played Mato through but the KCCA man’s square pass for Miya was poorly met for a goal kick.

Miya forced a save out of Madrea with a volley off Kenneth Ssemakula’s superb cross in the 38th minute but four minutes later, goalkeeper Jamal Salim gifted Algeria the lead.

A poor clearance from Jamal Salim was intercepted by Himad Abdelli who fired a shot that the Cranes goalie fumbled into the path of Mohammed Amoura to strike the Algerians in the lead.
