Elvis Kigongo’s goal was the difference as Jinja College picked maximum points on the road as they started their hunt for the FUFA TV Cup.

Jinja College registered a narrow 1-0 victory against a wasteful Busoga College in the FUFA TV Cup duel played at Mwiri grounds on Sunday morning.

Busoga College was the better side throughout the game and received the utmost needed support from the home crowd but was so wasteful in front of the goal.

Both Nasser Kagoda and Bolton Dhikusooka had a chance to put the home side ahead in the opening minutes but their efforts went wide of either goalposts.

On the other side, Jinja College converted their half and first chance in the first stanza hence taking the lead through Kigongo.

Keith Okore delivered a darling ball into the area that was tapped home in an awkward manner before Busoga College’s custodian Mathias Bakoole got in contact with it in the 44th minute.

Busoga College nearly responded through a swift attack but Shafiq Nabangi’s effort rattled off the frame with only a keeper to beat.

JICO is now level at the helm of Group B with Kiira College Butiki that as well picked a victory against Namilyango yesterday.

Saturday, June 10 | FUFA Tv Cup

Ernest Olukor scored at the death of the duel as Kiira College Butiki fought from down to bag maximum points in their opening game of the inaugural FUFA TV Cup.

Kiira College registered a sweet 2-1 victory against Namilyango College in the opening game of group B in the ongoing championship.

It was an entertaining game that was only slowed by the quality of the playground which was soggy and muddy after a morning heavy downpour.

But that would not stop the two schools to tussle over it before Kiira College made the first bite of the meat.

Namilyango were awarded a penalty after forward Mark Kevin Nsimbi was tripped in the box by goalkeeper Kenneth Mutabazi.

In the 17th minute, defender Mathias Erima stepped up on the occasion and placed the ball far from the goalkeeper but into the back of the net.

Kiira College Butiki nearly responded on time through skipper Lyada Muhammad but his powerful shot went wide of the right goalpost.

Ten minutes into the second stanza, Olukor restored parity to restore the hope of the crowds that had gone mute since their side had gone down earlier.

Thereafter, Kiira College was ignited and threw all bodies upfront searching for a lead and a perfect start to the tournament.

As many had concluded that it was spoils to be shared, Olukor had a different idea as he found the back of the net in stoppage time and ensure the bragging rights go to the home side.

Catherine Nagadya scored the only but important goal that helped Uganda Martyrs lift the 2022/23 FUFA Women’s Cup.

Uganda Martyrs registered a 1-0 narrow but well-deserved win against She Maroons in the finals played at Bishop Maraka College playground in Kumi District.

This was the fourth edition of the FUFA Women’s Cup to be played and the Kiddawalime girls won it after an impressive run to the grand stage.

It also doubles as their maiden title since the team started back in 2006.

Uganda Martyrs looked the better side right from word go but She Maroons were equally composed in their backline.

Shamusa Najjuma and Nagadya came close in the first stanza but their efforts went narrowly off the target by inches.

In the 78th minute, Nagadya broke the deadlock with a composed effort after loosening up She Maroons’s well-placed backline.

The Prison Wardens tried to fight back into the game but failed to find the leveller before the center referee blew the final whistle to bring the closely contested game to an end.

The other three winners of the cup are Olila High School (2017), UCU Lady Cardinals and Makerere University (2019).

Mengo Senior School register a 4-1 victory against Makerere College School in the first game of the FUFA TV Cup in a duel that was played at Makerere’s main ground.

It was a great start for Mengo SS who had to fight from a goal down to see that they take home maximum points after falling to the hosts early.

Makerere College lit up right away seeking an opener as the home crowd rallied behind them with chants and vuvuzelas.

In the ninth minute, quick-footed forward Brian Mukulu broke the deadlock guiding the ball into the back of the net.

Mengo Senior Secondary School nearly levelled matters but the long-range shot from John Senfuma rattled off the frame.

In the 26th minute, Mengo restored parity through Ambrose Adea beating custodian Balaam Ogola who had just come on the pitch to replace injured Calvin Ssemuyaba.

Nine minutes later, Mengo took the lead through Ukasha Ssentamu after being set up in style by John Senfuma.

With four minutes to end the first stanza, Senfuma was in the right place to tap home a corner after Makerere College failed to clear its lines.

Two minutes to the hour mark, Senfuma completed a double with another tap in after Makerere looked shaky and unstable at the backline.

In the second half, Makerere had a better show taking the ball to the opponent but could not go past Mengo’s defence line.

The opening match was graced by the FUFA president, Eng Moses Magogo together with tournament chairperson Dr. Apollo Ahimbisibwe.

KCCA FC has confirmed its participation in the CAF Confederation Cup for the 2023/24 season.

Reports were circulating that the Lugogo-based side was considering letting go of the slot in the continental tournament due to the huge expenditure ahead.

However, KCCA is now ready to take part in the continental tournament according to a post on their social media handles.

“This is to inform all our stakeholders that KCCA FC today has today sent in its confirmation to FUFA confirming participation in the CAF Confederation Cup for season 2023/24,” the post read.

After Vipers clinched the domestic double, it simply meant the second-placed side on the league would take the CAF Confederation slot.

Amidst a blurry campaign, KCCA finished second on the log with 53 points level with Vipers SC who lifted the league title thanks to a superior goal difference.

KCCA’s last journey to the CAF Confederation groups ended prematurely after Rwanda’s AS Kigali eliminated them in the preliminary round.

Kitara FC have confirmed the departure of gaffer Sam Ssimbwa Bamweyana.

Ssimbwa guided the Hoima-based side to Uganda Premier League but unfortunately, he will not be part of the team after seeing it to the promised land.

The former URA tactician joined the club in February this year on a colourful occasion witnessed by vast numbers of fans at Kigaaya Primary School playground.

For the 15 games at the helm, Kitara won eight, drawing six, and losing once.

The stellar performance saw Kitara win the FUFA Big League title which was the first of a kind in the trophy cabin of the team since its birth.

Deo Kasozi Akiki, Kitara Club president expressed his disappointment for losing the experienced coach but revealed it was a careful thought.

“It was a difficult decision,” Kasozi was quoted by the club’s official website.

“But after a careful decision and consideration, we finally made the change. We want to thank Ssimbwa for everything he has done for Kitara,” he concluded.

According to the club, the new man to take the role will be confirmed before the end of the month of June.

Defender Gift Fred is currently a free agent after his employment contract with SC Villa run-out before the start of the month of June.

Gift was unveiled on August 21, 2021, switching camps from the Regional side Booma FC based in Masindi.

The year before, Gift had guided Ssaza Gomba to the 2020 Masaza Cup triumph as well as being named the best defender of the Uganda Football League (2019).

Gift Fred free agent after SC Villa contract ran out

Gift Fred

“I am sure my agent will handle the matter as soon as possible. I have enjoyed life at SC Villa and I would be glad to keep writing my story with the club,” he added.

The defender’s leadership skills were key as the club finished third on the log after a tight and much competitive campaign.

The defender is highly courted by top clubs and it will be a matter of time to confirm where he will be playing from next season.

After a thrilling season, SC Villa’s president Omar Ahmed Mandela promised to strengthen the team ahead of next season and that should be achieved by first keeping the team’s best players.

During the transfer period across the world, entries and exits are expected and URA FC’s door has opened right away without wasting any time.

Defender Ronald Kigongo has been the first to walk through the back door of URA FC after serving the tax collectors for seven years.

Kigongo joined URA FC in 2016 joining Luzira-based Maroons FC.

His last contract at the Tax Collectors was signed in 2020 for three years and came to an end this month.

The defender hardly played so many games and hardly made a case for himself to see his contract renewed.

According to the club’s official website, the management thanked Kigongo for the great work done while at the club.

URA FC will need to dust their squad ahead of next season having played to a disappointing campaign.

With a squad dubbed with quality players, they finished fifth on the log with 42 points, 11 behind the log leaders Vipers SC.
