Uganda Cranes head coach Paul Put has unveiled a 36-man provisional squad ahead of the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN).
The announcement was made during a press conference held at FUFA House in Mengo on Wednesday, January 8, 2025.
The squad comprises four goalkeepers, twelve defenders, ten midfielders, and ten forwards.
The team is set to begin non-residential training on Friday, January 10, which will run until Sunday, January 12. Coach Put stated that these three days of training will be used for further assessment and to trim the squad to 26 players.
The final 26-man squad will enter the residential camp at Cranes Paradise Hotel in Kisasi on Monday, January 13, to intensify preparations for the tournament.

Kitara secured a hard-fought 1-0 victory against SC Villa in the Uganda Premier League encounter at Royal Park, Buteme, on Tuesday.
Denis Omedi had a chance to give the hosts a lead after 14 seconds, but he put the ball inches off the frame.
David Ndihabwe forced goalkeeper Meddie Kibirige in a big save as he palmed away a powerful effort in the 31st minute.
Ronald Otti came close in the 42nd minute, but his bouncing header went narrowly above the frame in another wasted chance.
Kitara came back to the second half hungry to take an early lead, but SC Villa’s backline stood tall and firm.
Jude Ssemugabi came close to finding the back of the net, but his powerful header could not get on the target.
At the death of the game, Nyanzi tapped home Rogers Mugisha’s well-weighed delivery in front of the goal.
The victory takes Kitara to the seventh position with 21 points while SC Villa is eighth with 20 points after 15 games.
Uganda U17 Women’s National Team head coach Sheryl Botes has summoned 39 players ahead of thr world cup qualifiers.
The team will kick start its preparations on Wednesday, January 8, 2025 ahead of the game against Namibia.
The 39 players will kick start a residential camp that is set to be held at FUFA Technical Center, Njeru.
The first leg will be hosted by Namibia on Thursday, January 16 while the second leg is scheduled for Saturday, January 19.
Both games will take place at Hamz Stadium, Nakivubo which gives Uganda the home advantage.
The winner on aggregate will take on Kenya in the next qualification stage.

Vipers secure a hard-fought 1-0 victory against Maroons in a Uganda Premier League encounter on Saturday.
In a game played at St Mary’s Stadium, it was a closely contested game but the hosts grilled maximum points out of the encounter.
Allan Okello came close to giving Vipers the lead in the 13th minute but goalkeeper Simon Tamale calmly collected the effort.
Three minutes later, Vipers were awarded an indirect freekick after Rogers Torach was kicked on the head in the dangerous area.
Moses Waiswa and Allan Okello stepped before the former curled the ball into the back of the net.
In the 25th minute, Kenneth Kimera had a chance to double Vipers’ lead but the forward nodded the ball wide of the frame.
Ivan Asaba tried to drive the visitors upfront but Nicholas Wadada put in a great shift to mark the talisman.
Two days into the second half, Nicholas Wadada’s searching cross almost dropped into the net but Tamale palmed the ball over the frame.
In the 52nd minute, Gusto Mulongo beat his marker but failed to find the target from a tight angle.

SC Villa secured a hard-fought 1-0 victory against URA in the Uganda Premier League encounter at Luzira Prison Grounds on Saturday.
Francis Onekalit was on the target as the Jogoos registered maximum points on the day.
SC Villa ended their four-game winless run with a narrow victory against the Tax Collectors.
SC Villa was very wasteful in the first half, having created many chances but converting none.
Onekalit broke the 62nd minute with a great finish that got the fans into jubilation.
It was a great finish that was started by quick-footed midfielder Tonny Atukunda in a counterattack.
The victory takes SC Villa to the seventh position with 20 points while URA remains sixth with 21 points.

Isaac Wagoina’s double secured BUL FC’s fourth victory of the season as they edged Lugazi FC 2-1 in a Uganda Premier League encounter at Lugazi Stadium, Najjembe, on Friday.
Wagoina opened the scoring in the 22nd minute, pouncing on a rebound from Ibrahim Orit’s powerful effort after the hosts failed to clear their lines.
However, Lugazi responded swiftly, with Abdul Kalanzi levelling the score following a mix-up between BUL’s defence and goalkeeper, as neither took decisive action to clear the ball.
The hosts dominated possession in the first half but lacked sharpness in the final third, failing to capitalize on their attacking play.
BUL nearly regained the lead when Ibrahim Orit came close, but luck was not on his side.
Deep into stoppage time, Wagoina sealed the victory, tapping into an empty net after Lugazi’s poor defensive positioning from a set piece cost them at least a point.
The win lifts BUL to seventh place with 19 points, while Lugazi remains 13th with 13 points.
Vipers SC secured a hard-fought 1-0 victory over UPDF FC in a Uganda Premier League clash at Bombo Barracks Grounds on Friday.
The win extended their lead at the top of the table to four points ahead of second-placed NEC.
Allan Okello fired the visitors into the lead in the 15th minute, capitalizing on a rebound after UPDF failed to clear their lines.
Ten minutes later, Vipers goalkeeper Alfred Mudekereza produced a brilliant save to deny Frank Mugisha’s powerful free-kick from distance.
In the 35th minute, Okello was denied a second goal from close range by UPDF shot-stopper Richard Anyama, who made a crucial save.
Two minutes later, Milton Karisa came close to doubling Vipers’ lead, but his header, off a well-delivered Moses Waiswa free-kick, struck the woodwork.
Seven minutes into the second half, Andrew Kigozi skillfully beat two defenders before setting up Bashir Kabuye, who failed to find the target, sending his effort wide.
With 13 minutes left to play, Vipers were reduced to 10 men after Derrick Ndahiro received a red card.
Despite being a man down, the visitors held firm and even had a late opportunity to seal the win.
However, Abubaker Lawal squandered a golden chance in stoppage time after being set up by Richard Matovu.
The result leaves UPDF in 11th place with 17 points from 14 games.

Express 2-1 Bright Stars
Express SC returned to winning ways with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Bright Stars in their Uganda Premier League encounter on Thursday evening.
The hosts almost took an early lead when Rashid Kawawa cut in from the left, but his effort went narrowly wide.
However, it was the visitors who struck first. Ashraf Mulindi opened the scoring in the 6th minute, calmly slotting in Nelson Senkatuka’s delivery past goalkeeper Emmanuel Kalyowa.
Bright Stars had an opportunity to double their lead in the 27th minute when Marvin Youngman set up Senkatuka, but the latter’s poor control at the edge of the box squandered the chance.
Express found their equalizer in the 56th minute when Conrad Ssenjogera powered a header into the net from Joseph Zziwa’s precise delivery.
The home side continued to press and survived a scare in the 62nd minute when Kalyowa made a crucial save to deny Kato Nemeyimana’s flick.
Express capitalized on their momentum in the 74th minute, with Ssenjogera tapping in his second goal from close range after being set up by Sam Ssenyonjo.
Bright Stars’ hopes of mounting a comeback were dashed when Marvin Youngman was sent off for slapping Ssenjogera in retaliation, leaving his side reduced to 10 men.
The victory lifts Express to fifth place with 22 points, while Bright Stars remain in 14th place with just nine points from 14 games.

Ivan Mayanja scored the lonely strike as Maroons secured a 1-0 victory against Mbale Heroes in the Uganda Premier League encounter on Thursday.
In the game that was played at Prison Grounds, Luzira, the hosts were on the front foot from the opening minute to the last.
Mayanja gave the hosts the lead in the 15th minute after converting from the 12-yard mark.
Mbale Heroes tried to return to the game by throwing several bodies upfront but the hosts’ backline stood tall and firm.
Ivan Asaba had a chance to double Maroons lead but his penalty was saved in the 42nd minute.
In the second half, the Maroons kicked off with the right rhythm but failed to go past Delton Oyo’s gloves, who was eventually voted man of the match.
Five minutes into the second stanza, Jackson Nunda and Godwin Kitagenda were introduced for Denis Rukundo and Mayanja.
The victory takes Maroons in the fourth position with 22 points while Mbale Heroes have nine points in 14 points.
