Uganda Cranes completed their ten-day training camp in Sousse, Tunisia on Tuesday as part of preparations for African Nations Championship (CHAN) 2022.

The team comprising locally based players moved to Sousse on 1st January 2023 and while in North Africa, they had three friendly games that concluded Sudan (2-2), Cameroon (1-1) and Mali (0-0).

Leader of Delegation, Dr. Apollo Ahimbisibwe who is also a member of the FUFA Executive Committee broke down the importance of the camp ahead of CHAN.

“Like it has always been a norm at FUFA that prior to any major tournament, we take National Teams to a foreign camp and try to create a situation that would give players a competitive mind. I believe the camp in Sousse has been fruitful, the coaches have been able to mould the team and also the players have developed the bond necessary to take them into CHAN,” he told the Federation website.

“In addition, we have acclimatized to things like weather and food because Tunisia and Algeria are neighbours, we believe this was a perfect choice of venue to camp. The friendly games have shown improvement and chemistry of the team and we are hopeful of doing better than the previous editions.”

Uganda Cranes contingent will depart Tunisia for Annaba, Algeria on Wednesday morning. The Team will be based at Ben Mustapha Aouda Hotel.

The first Group game will be against the Democratic Republic of Congo on Saturday, 14th January 2023. Uganda is in Group B which has the Democratic Republic of Congo, Senegal and Ivory Coast.

From prayer time, the team shared sumptuous meals with the community before donating sugar, bread, salt, cooking oil, soap, soda, rice and so much more.

Uganda Premier League defending champions Vipers Sports Club has unveiled Brazilian Roberto Luiz Bianchi Pelliser popularly known as Beto Bianchi as their new head coach.

Bianchi Beto was unveiled at St Mary’s Stadium in Kitende on Tuesday afternoon.

The Brazilian was handed a two-year contract. He replaces Roberto Oliveira who recently joined Tanzania Premier League side Simba Sports Club.

“We received a lot of applications from within and outside Uganda, and we had to screen them thoroughly before settling for Beto,” Vipers Sports Club president Lawrence Mulindwa said during the unveiling press conference.

“It wasn’t a matter of hand picking, we have a yardstick and we have some parameters that had to be followed to have a substantial coach to guide us in different competitions.

“We looked for a coach with vast experience, with good style, and one that can give us good football.”

Beto is a travelled coach and has had stints around the world including in Africa where he was the head coach of Angola in 2017.

He has coached Zamora (Spain), Pro Duta (Indonesia), Shabab (Jordan), Montegnée (Belgium), Petro Luanda (Angola), and Kazma (Kuwait).

His last stint was in Angola with Grupo Desportivo Interclube.
