KCCA FC proved to be the big boys in the Kampala derby, as they defeated city rivals Express FC on Friday at the MTN Omondi Stadium.

The Cityzens secured a 3-0 win thanks to a first-half penalty converted by Moses Waiswa before Congolese striker Simon Tshisungu Kankonde and Charles Lwanga came off the bench to complete the score.

Allan Okello was fouled in the area before Waiswa opened the scoring early on.

Muhammad Shaban nearly doubled the lead eight minutes later but Express goalkeeper Dennis Otim was alert to deny the former.

Kankonde opened his scoring for KCCA for the very first time after coming in the 12th game of the season.

He replaced Rogers Mato in the 68th minute and got onto the score sheet four later.

Lwanga who also came off the bench put the icing on the cake with a cool finish in the 84th minute to put the game beyond reach.

Victory takes KCCA FC back to the top of the table on 25 points.

On the other hand, Express suffered a fourth successive loss and this leaves them ninth with 14 points.

KCCA has had some outstanding performance previously and head into their 10th game in the league on a six games unbeaten run with only URA managing to pick a point as they played out to a 1-1 draw and are yet to lose a game at home this season.

On the other hand, Express is struggling and has lost three consecutive games despite starting off the league with a good run.

Morley Byekwaso, the head coach of KCCA, is taking nothing for granted.

“It is a derby and such games are of a huge magnitude. We know what is at stake and we want to win.

“If we focus on playing well, we know the results will come. We need to focus on our principles and if we get that right on the day then we shall win,” he said ahead of the game.

Byekwaso’s opposite James Odoch says his side cant afford to lose four consecutive games.

“I must admit that we are not in a good situation having lost our last consecutive three games, it is indeed a poor run for such a big club.

“In training this week, we have tried so much to rectify the mistakes we have been doing especially in defense. The players have been responding well to the tactics and I am hopeful we shall win because losing a fourth straight game will not be good for us. I know how good a team KCCA is with brilliant players and equally a fantastic coach Morley Byekwaso but we shall be looking for maximum points.”
