Victory sends Uganda to their second successive appearance at the final tournament.

Uganda played at AFCON U20 last year and reached the final on their maiden appearance but lost to Ghana in the final.

Soltilo Bright Stars have reportedly parted ways with Simon Peter Mugerwa, one of their long-serving coaches at the club.

Kawowo Sports reveals that Mugerwa has been the mainstay and part of the technical staff in the last five years.

Asaph Mwebaze, the new head coach is reported to have been struggling to establish a working relationship with Mugerwa before investing more time with assistant Tom Ssali.

Bright Stars are yet to release a statement on the matter but it’s understood Mugerwa is set to make a requisition demanding all his arrears before he departs.

Achievements:

Mugerwa has won several trophies won with Buddu and Bulemeezi in the Masaza cup tournament during the 2016 and 2018 championships respectively.

The CAF “C” licensed tactician guided Masaka and Buddo Secondary Schools to the Federation of East Africa Secondary School Football Association (FEASSA) gold medals.

He won the Copa Coca-cola football national football title with Buddo Secondary School in 2018.

At SC Villa, he was part of the technical team that saved the club from the pits of relegation in 2019.

Uganda Hippos have made it into the semifinals of the ongoing CECAFA, AFCON U20 Zonal Qualifiers in Sudan.

This follows a group B tie, between Tanzania and Ethiopia on Wednesday at Al Hilal Stadium which ended in a stalemate of 2-2.

The result meant that Tanzania who completed their group games had 1 point, the same as Ethiopia with a game left against Uganda due Saturday 05th at Al Hilal Stadium.

Tanzania’s only hopes of making it to the semi-finals rely on Uganda if the Hippos defeat Ethiopia with more than two goals without scoring any.

In the semi-finals, Hippos could face hosts Sudan, South Sudan, or Burundi depending on who will qualify from group A.

Two nations that will reach the finals will represent CECAFA region at the 2023 U20 AFCON tournament in Egypt next year.

Karim Ndugwa found the back of the net with eight minutes to the final whistle as BUL defeated visiting Onduparaka 1-0 at Fufa Technical Centre, Njeru.

Ndugwa headed past Mathias Muwanga who had kept him and the entire BUL forwards at bay for more than eighty minutes.

The win propelled Alex Isabirye’s men four points ahead of second-placed SC Villa and Wakiso Giants who have 10 points each.

Bul’s next assignment will be a trip to Wankulukuku on Tuesday, November 8 to face seven-time champions Express while Onduparaka will host equally struggling Busoga United at Bombo four days later.

Wasswa Bbosa is still looking for his first league win at Gaddafi and he will take to Jinja on Tuesday when his side faces Busoga United.

Gaddafi has struggled to get off the mark in four fixtures in which they have lost one and drawn three on the bounce.

In the last outing, they came from behind to salvage a point against table leaders BUL but Bbosa, a league winner with Express believes the time is now to get the first victory.

“We are yet to get any victory, it is unfortunate that in the previous encounters we could create so many chances but could not convert them,” said Bbosa.

“We realized we need to concentrate more in the final third and hurt our opponents. Derbies are usually tough games since players do not need anyone to motivate them.

“It is within them, my side will not underrate our opponents who have good players and their experience in the league can never be doubted.”

Marvin Oshaba wants to score more goals after getting his first for Express Football Club in the StarTimes Uganda Premier League.

The former Tooro United forward who joined Express from Police at the start of the ongoing season got his first goal against Onduparaka as the Red Eagles won 2-1 at Bombo on his first start.

Oshaba benefitted from the injury to first-choice forward Anwar Ntege which sidelined him for the game in Bombo.

“I am happy to have scored my first goal at Express and I hope I will add on more when given the opportunity,” Oshaba told the club media after the game.

“The game was difficult but we had to put the mentality so that we can come as winners and I think we are just going to enjoy the win over the and see how we can plan for the next game.”

Express will return to action on Tuesday, 8th November when they host BUL at Wankulukuku Stadium.

Wakiso Giants vs URA

URA will be desperate to get the season back on track when they visit Wakiso Giants after throwing away a two-goal lead to draw with Bright Stars in their last game.

The tax collectors have picked just one win from their five games so far and sit 7th on the log with just six points.

URA’s Alionzi Nafian feels they need to step up starting with the match at Wakissha.

“The last outing was disappointing and as players, we understand the need to up our game and start winning games starting with the one against Wakiso Giants tomorrow,” said Nafian.

Wakiso Giants come into the game a point and position above URA despite playing a game less.

They have won two games on the bounce and Coach John Luyinda wants to continue winning.

“Winning is very important for the stability of the team and going into tomorrow’s match, we need that win,” he said.

“We understand we are playing against a team with quality and experience but we feel ready to out-compete them,” he added.

“It is our second home game and the target at home will be to always do everything to get all points,” he stressed.

Both teams have absentees with Wakiso Giants missing the U-20 trio of Ronald Madoi, Titus Ssematimba and Marvin Nyanzi.

However, Samson Kiirya and Joshua Lubwama return from the Sand Cranes duty. URA is also without key players Derricks Ndahiro and Nsibambi, Hassan Kalega, and U-20 right-back Justine Opiro.
