Uganda Premier League newcomers Blacks Power FC suffered a dismal start to their life in top-fight football after losing to BUL FC.

The hosts were obliterated by BUL FC who registered a 5-0 win in the game played at Akii-Bua Stadium in Lira City.

Karim Ndugwa fired BUL into the early in the 9th minute and this set the tone for the game. By the half-hour mark, the rampant visitors were 4-up.

Midfielder Jerome Kirya doubled the lead in the 18th minute while Richard Wandyaka bagged a brace in four minutes, scoring in the 25th and 29th minutes.

Ndugwa who had opened the scores put the icing on the cake with his second of the day five minutes upon resumption.

Victory means BUL FC takes the lead at the top on goal difference. Blacks Power FC will now have to prepare better for Busoga United FC while BUL FC will be at home to UPDF FC.

KCCA Football Club edged Wakiso Giants 3-2 in a thrilling StarTimes Uganda Premier League encounter played at the MTN Omondi Stadium in Lugogo.

Ashraf Mugume came off the bench to score a brace and Geoffrey Wasswa scored the other as Kasasiro survived the Purple Sharks.

Owen Kasule and Tom Masiko (penalty) were on target for Wakiso Giants.

The opening forty-five minutes of the game were barren but it took just five minutes after the break for Mugume to fire the hosts ahead after being set up by Moses Waiswa.

Geoffrey Wasswa headed in Saidi Mayanja’s corner to double KCCA’s lead fifteen minutes later but Kasule would half the deficit with Moses Aliro the provider.

With six minutes to play, Mugume scored his second, a rocket from outside the area after being set up by Arafat Usama to restore the two-goal advantage.

Masiko converted from the spot with two minutes to play to create a tense finish after John Revita had fouled Frank Ssebufu in the area.

KCCA FC will visit Arua Hill on 8th October while Wakiso Giants will be away to Maroons in Luzira two days later.

Maroons announced their return to the StarTimes Uganda Premier League with a five-star performance against Busoga United.

The Uganda Prisons side beat Busoga five-nil with Fred Amaku scoring a double. Solomon Walusimbi, Noel Nasasira, and Isaac Mpagi scored the other goals.

It was Maroons’ first win against Busoga United in seven meetings and also the biggest defeat for the visitors on the opening day of the season since they gained promotion to the top flight.

In Lira, Blacks Power received a rude welcome to the league as they were at the end of another five-nil beating at the hands of BUL Football Club.

Karim Ndugwa and Richard Wandyaka scored a double each and Jerome Kirya got the other for the Eastern Giants who were rampant at the John Akibua Stadium.

BUL and Maroons are top of the log.

The draws for the Championship of African Nations (CHAN) 2022was conducted on Saturday in Algiers, Algeria.

Uganda was drawn into Group B along with two-time winners of the tournament the Democratic Republic of Congo, Ivory Coast, and Senegal.

The tournament designed for local-based players on the continent will be played from January 8-31, 2023 in Algeria.

The Cranes head coach Micho will be well aware that Uganda has never progressed past the groups in all their five appearances.

DR Congo who won the tournament in 2009 and 2016 will as well be playing in their sixth tournament.

Ivory Coast will be in their fifth and their best placement was finishing third in 2016 Rwanda tourney while Senegal is only returning to the tournament for the first time since their appearance in 2011.

2022 CHAN Draw

Onduparaka Football Club and URA FC played out a goalless draw in their first game of the 2022/23 Uganda Premier League season.

The Caterpillars showed resilience to play out a goalless draw with the Tax Collectors in the game played at Nakisunga Ssaza Ground on Saturday.

Onduparaka FC played their bodies and souls out to deny URA FC even when they went through on goal.

Sam Timbe handed debuts to Eric Ssenjobe, James Begisa and Derrick Nsibambi.

On the other hand, coach Hussein Keri took charge of his first competitive game with the Arua-based side a game where Mathias Muwanga wore the captain’s armband, succeeding Muhammad Shaban who has since moved to KCCA FC.

The first chance of the game fell to the visitors in the 7th minute but goalkeeper Nafian Alionzi was well positioned to save.

Joachim Ojera was unlucky not to score when his effort bounced off the upright after combining well with Saidi Kyeyune.

Coach Timbe tried to bring on fresh legs in the second stanza with Salim Abdallah and Living Kabon replacing Ssekajugo and Kyeyune respectively.

However, that did not help in breaking Onduparaka’s resolve, the points were eventually shared.

Uganda Premier League champions Vipers SC title defense with a goalless draw against Bright Stars on Saturday at St Mary’s Stadium in Kitende.

WhileVipers did not create clear-cut scoring opportunities, it’s a good point earned for Asaph Mwebaze who made a sounding return to the local league touchline for the first time since 2019.

Abdu Lumala, playing in the Uganda Premier League for the first time, was the pregame best possible source for Vipers goals but his deliveries couldn’t be converted by Yunus Ssentamu, Bright Anukani, and Abubaker Lawal at different intervals.

Bright Stars will have goalie Hassan Matovu to thank as he kept out Lumala’s effort as well as Sentamu at different intervals.

Bright Stars had some share of chances, with their best falling to new signing Amis Muwonge but his header off Ibrahim Kasinde’s well-weighed ball was collected by goalkeeper Alfred Mudekereza.

Vipers now switch focus to their CAF Champions League second preliminary round first leg tie against TP Mazembe to be played next week.

Uganda Cranes Captain Emmanuel Okwi has joined Iraq’s giants Al-Zawraa Sports Club.

The deal was revealed by the skipper through his social media platforms after a spell without club football since the end of June.

In a post, Okwi revealed

Okwi ended his time with Rwanda’s Kiyovu where he had signed on a year-long deal as a free agent after his two-year’s tenure at Al Ittihad Alexandria climaxed.

The 14-time Iraq Premier League winners become Okwi’s 8th club after playing for SC Villa, Simba, Young Africans, Etoile Du Sahel,  Al Ittihad, and Kiyovu Sports.

Okwi joins a few Ugandan names like Hassan Wasswa that have played in Iraq.

SC Villa has confirmed the arrival of 20 new players and the departure of 13 for the new Uganda Premier League season.

Captains Gavin Kizito and Ibrahim Sadam Juma lead the departing 13-pack along with Amir Kakomo, Nicholas Kabonge, and the experienced duo of Shafik Bakaki and Bernard Agele.

Coach Nelly Magera’s side has however added twenty new faces with URA’s Ivan Sserubiri, Mbarara City’s Pistis Barenge, and Proline’s Ivan Bogere expected to feature.

Former Uganda Cranes midfielder Micheal Azira has been invited to be part of the Chicago Fire FC’s 25th season celebrations due Oct. 8-9.

Azira turned out for the club between 2019 and 2020, making 10 appearances. He will be returning as an alumnus at the club.

Chicago Fire’s anniversary weekend will also feature appearances from members of the 1998 MLS Cup and U.S. Open Cup Championship teams.

The postgame concert will feature artist Lunay and a commemorative jersey auction for fans. The Club’s official 25th-anniversary date on Oct. 8 also marks the 151st anniversary of the Great Chicago Fire of 1871.

According to a statement read on the website, “Chicago Fire will host a 25th Anniversary party at the Museum of Science and Industry.

“The event will begin at 7:00 p.m. CT and is open to the public.

“Guests will enjoy food, refreshments, and appearances from current first-team players and alumni, including members from the ’98 MLS Cup and U.S. Open Cup Championship teams.”

The Uganda Premier League returns with champions Vipers hosting Soltilo Bright Stars at Kitende on Friday.

The reigning champions start life minus last season’s top scorer Ceaser Manzoki, and the league’s best defender in the past five or so years, Halid Lwaliwa.

A new look Bright Stars under Asaph Mwebaze is also looking to present a tough challenge as the Venoms seek to earn a record 7th straight win over the side.

Coach Robertinho Oliviera will return to the bench after missing through lack of qualification in the Caf Champions League game against Olympique de Bangui.

Lumala Abdu, Isa Mubiru, Murushid Jjuuko, Abubaker Lawal and former Bright Stars gem Marvin Youngman could be handed starting spots according to Kawowo Sports.

Vipers are unbeaten against Soltilo Bright Stars in the league in 17 meetings [W10, D7]. The hosts are unbeaten in the last 17 league games since a 1-0 defeat away at Arua Hill in January. [W 13, D4]
