Uganda Cranes head coach Milutin Sredojevic Micho has named a squad of 22 players that will travel to Ethiopia on Thursday.

The team comprises of three goalkeepers, eight defenders, five midfielders and six forwards will play two friendly games against Ethiopia on Friday and Sunday.

They will thereafter connect to Tanzania for the first leg of the CHAN Qualifiers on 28th August 2022 at Benjamin Mkapa National Stadium.

“First of all, I need to give credit to the players that have worked really hard in training since we entered camp, Micho told FUFA website.

“And now we enter second stage which is checking match fitness and this will be tested in friendly matches against Ethiopia,” he added.

Four players from Vipers SC joined the camp on Wednesday and attended the final training session. These are namely; Livingstone Mulondo, Marvin Youngman, Siraje Ssentamu and Milton Karisa.

The team will travel on Thursday evening aboard Ethiopian airlines and the two friendlies will be played in Adama City.

Uganda Cranes will then depart for Zanzibar on Monday and play a friendly match on Wednesday before connecting to Tanzania mainland on Friday.

The first leg against Tanzania will be played on Sunday, 28th August in Dar es Salaam while the return leg will happen on 3rd September at St. Mary’s Stadium, Kitende.

The winner on aggregate between Uganda and Tanzania will then qualify to the final tournament slated for January next year in Algeria.

FUFA has today handed over sixty quality balls to one of its members Uganda Youth Football
Association (UYFA).

The event was done to boost support of the forthcoming National Youth U-13 Football Championship for both boys and girls to be hosted in Mbale from 16th -21st August 2022.

The balls were handed over to the Chairman of UYFA Roberts Kiwanuka by the FUFA Deputy
CEO in Charge of football Decolas Kiiza at FUFA House, Mengo.

“We would like to congratulate UYFA for organizing this youth football tournament,” FUFA Deputy CEO-Football Decolas Kiiza told media.

“We believe the balls handed over today will be put to proper use by the teams. It is a humble contribution by FUFA to the association.

“We encourage UYFA to organise many more youth football tournaments.”

About the U13 Boys and Girls tournament

The first edition will run between from 16th to 21st August 2022. Twenty five (25) boys’ teams that qualified from the 8 regions of FUFA while the girls’ category has eight (8) invitational teams.

The teams will camp at Nkoma SS while the matches will be played at Aga Khan play grounds and Mbale Stadium.

Uganda Premier League side Wakiso Giants have signed Mubarak Nsubuga on a three-year contract.

The attacker joins the Purple Sharks following expiry of his time at Police where he spent two seasons.

“Mubarak Nsubuga has signed for Wakiso Giants from Police FC on a three year contract…,” the club confirmed on its website.

Mubarak Nsubuga said; “I am happy to join Wakiso Giants. It’s a big club where I feel I can still grow, improve my game and continue to learn.”

Coach John ‘Ayala’ Luyinda said; “He is a young player with much potential. He is a different kind of forward to the ones we have already here and gives us more options in attack.”

The club previously confirmed signing Mikdad Ssenyonga (URA) and Bashir Ssekagya (Wazito).  

Eric Kambale has revealed excitement after completing a move to Sudan giants Al Merriekh from Express FC.

The forward put pen to paper for a two-year contract with the Sudan side for an undisclosed fee.

“I am happy that I’ve moved to El Merrick, like any other player it’s a dream come true to play professional football and I am glad this has come to pass,” he said.

“I want to thank the Express FC management for making this happen and I also want to thank the fans who have always been there for me, I promise to do my best in Sudan.”

Kambale joins Mike Mutyaba and Jamal Salim who moved from the UPL to Sudan in the past.

At Express, he won the UPL, Cecafa Kagame Cup, and scored over 33 goals in 83 appearances.

Uganda Cranes will play two friendly matches this week before facing Tanzania in the forthcoming African Nations Championship (CHAN) Qualifiers.

Coach Milutin Sredojevic revealed the two games will be up against Ethiopia before facing Tanzania.

“From 25th of July when we started preparations, I believe we have done a good job considering players were coming from off season.

“We now have to engage a polishing aspect and on Thursday, we shall be flying to Ethiopia where the team will play two friendly matches on Friday and Sunday,” he was quoted by the FUFA website.

Micho feels Ethiopia is a decent team that will offer the best test for the team.

“Ethiopia is a good team and 95% of their national team players feature in their local league. They beat Egypt in the AFCON Qualifiers and that speaks volumes,” he added.

Uganda Cranes will thereafter head to Zanzibar for acclimatization before switching to the mainland of Tanzania.

Micho told the media that Uganda was supposed to face Malawi but the tie was canceled.

“It is unfortunate that we could not secure the friendly game against Malawi and thus we opted for plan B which is going to Zanzibar where we shall just acclimatize to weather conditions in Tanzania.

“We shall have a friendly match on Wednesday before facing Tanzania on Sunday.”

Uganda will face Tanzania in the first leg on 28th August at Benjamin Mkapa National Stadium while the return leg will be played on 3rd September at St. Mary’s Stadium, Kitende.

Express Football Club has announced the signing of Anwar Ntege.

The center forward joins the Red Eagles on a two-year contract which will keep him at the club up to 2024.

Ntege joins from Busoga United where he made 26 appearances (League and Uganda Cup) in the 2021-22 season managing to score 12 goals and 5 assists.

“I am excited to join Express FC. I have been a club fan, and I desire to help the club meet its targets and also looking forward to being one of the top scorers in the league,” he told the club.

Anwar has previously featured in Big League side Ndejje University between 2015 and 2018 where he made 38 appearances scoring 21 goals and 12 assists.

He also had one-year stints at URA FC (2019-20) and Bul FC (2020-21).

“We are glad to have Anwaru Ntege join us, he is a proven player who gives us options in the third half of the pitch especially in looking for goals,” head coach James Odoch said of the striker who is the direct replacement for Eric Kambale.

Right back Andrew Kaggwa has signed a two-year contract with Uganda Premier League side Express FC.

The defender arrived at the outfit after ending his four-year stay with Soltilo Bright Stars.

“Express FC is a big team with high ambitions,” he told the club media.

“I, joining the squad means a lot to me. I am going to use this chance to get called to the national team and also get better opportunities abroad,” he added.

Kaggwa becomes the seven time champions fifth signing after Hamim Semakula, Joseph Dhata, Marvin Oshaba, Kada Bitakazibwa and Benjamin Gakumba.

Uganda Kobs will participate in the 2023 U23 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers in the second round after being exempted from the first-round draw.

The Confederation of African Football (Caf) announced the draw for the qualifiers of the competition due in Morocco next year will take place on Thursday 18 August 2022.

Uganda is one of the 18 nations that will not play in the first round where the top 20 ranked nations from the continent.

“The TotalEnergies U23 Africa Cup of Nations, Morocco 2023 scheduled in June 2023 in Morocco and will serve as qualifying tournament to the Summer Olympics #Paris2024,” Caf confirmed in a statement.

“39 Member Associations are engaged in African qualifiers. Morocco are automatically qualified as hosts to the final tournament. The remaining 38 teams will play the qualifiers.”

Tanzania Premier League entity, Kagera Sugar Football Club has signed Deus Bukenya on a one-year deal.

The Tanzanian club confirmed the deal with Bukenya who has been a free agent since the expiry of his employment contract at Express Football Club.

He had been a loyal servant at Vipers before he switched to Express FC, also a stint in Botswana at Prisons XI.

Bukenya joins two other Ugandans; Jackson Kibirige and Hamis Diego Kiiza at Kagera.

Kagera Sugar will start their new season with an away contest against Azam on Wednesday, 17th August 2022.

Three days later, they will play giants Simba on 20th August 2022 in Dar-es-salaam city.

Kagera Sugar is based on the shores of Lake Victoria at Bukoba, hosting their home matches at the 5,000 seater Kaitaba stadium.

She Corporates have released a final 21-player squad that will feature in the upcoming CAF Women’s Champions League Regional qualifiers.

The team comprising three goalkeepers, seven defenders, five midfielders, and six forwards will be headed by coach Hasan Issa Yusuf who will be assisted by Charles Ayeiko.

Defender Miriam Ibunyu who was been instrumental at left back and winger Atim have been left out.

The Uganda Women Super League champions will represent the country at the CAF Women’s Champions League regional qualifiers in Tanzania.

The Sharks are placed in group A alongside South Sudan side Yei Joint Stars FC and will battle on Sunday 14th at National Stadium.
