Shisungu Kankonde has penned a two-year deal with KCCA FC from 2022 – 2024, according to the club.

Kankonde, 23, hails from Kananga province in the Democratic Republic of Congo and has previously turned up for AS Dauphin Noir de Goma.

He has also played for Congolese sides Etoile Jaune de Bukavu, Union Sportive Tshinkunku de Kananga and Academie Club de Kananga.

The forward told the KCCA FC website after signing the deal;

I am so happy to join a big club like KCCA FC which is also respected on the continent. Back in DRC, this club is known for its great history and when the opportunity to join the club was presented to me I could not resist. I have read so much about the history of this club and I have tasked myself to add value and history to this great club. I am certain the club and the technical team will push me to my ultimate best and that is exactly what I want to acheive. I know some players in the squad like John Revita who previously played in The Democratic Republic of Congo and I am sure I will settle in well. The Coach has already shared with me his expectations and I am looking forward to playing with my new mates.

Kankonde Tshisungu

Kankonde will be vying for a spot in the squad with Sadat Anaku, Brian Aheebwa, Brian Kayanja, and Charles Lwanga among others.

Kankonde, 23, becomes the fifth player to join KCCA FC in this transfer window after Moses Waiswa, and teenagers Faisal Wabyoona, Saidi Mayanja, and Allan Enyou respectively.

Uganda Premier League side Express FC have handed James Odoch a permanent contract as the new Head Coach.

The former Express and SC Villa midfielder has been given a one year contract taking over permanently from former boss Wasswa Bbosa.

“I want to thank the board together with the administration for trusting me to take on the role,” Odoch told the club website. “I am a well-qualified coach with the capacity to take the club to the next level,” he added.

“I was a player with Express FC and also served as assistant manager in the 2020/2021 season when we won the StarTimes Uganda Premier League and CECAFA Kagame Cup championship.

“I know what Express is and how it should play. My major focus is going to be in building a team of young players who will play for the Red Eagles for a long time, at least three years with hunger, ambition, commitment and passion to archive big things.”

Odoch served as the interim head coach last season and his time coincided with a time the seven time champions played some beautiful game.

H.E the President of the Republic of Uganda – Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has appointed Hon. Peter Ogwang the new state minister of sports.

This was confirmed through the latest cabinet reshuffle on Thursday, 21st July 2022.

Ogwang replaces Denis Hamson Obua (Obua has been appointed as the new Government chief whip).

Obua replaced Charles Bakabulindi on 14th December 2019 after the latter had served the sports sub sector for more than a decade since 2005.

Ogwang has been serving as the state minister for Economic monitoring and a member of the COVID-19 national task force.

He had earlier served as the state minister for Information, Communication, ICT, and National Guidance.

“I thank HE the President for yet again entrusting me with a new leadership position to serve this country in the best interest.

“Serving as State Minister for Economic monitoring has been the most exciting journey so far. I will continue to give my best in the Education and Sports Ministry,” Hon Ogwang expressed.

He joins the sports sub-sector at a time the 22nd Commonwealth Games are about to kick off in Birmingham, United Kingdom.

Uganda will be represented by a team of 76 athletes in 12 sports disciplines of athletics, boxing, swimming, badminton, netball, rugby, table tennis, and netball.

BUL Football Club has signed Anthony Mayanja from city rivals Busoga United.

The midfielder joins the Uganda Cup holders on a two-year renewable contract and becomes the fifth signing of the Eastern Giants in this transfer window.

Mayanja captained Busoga for a season taking over from George Kasonko who had been signed by BUL.

“I am excited to join the winning team,” Mayanja told the club media.

“BUL won the Uganda cup last season and I come to provide more efforts so that we can win more trophies in the coming seasons.

“I am ready for the task at hand especially in the CAF confederation cup, even if the competition is not easy, we are going there to compete, not to participate.”

Frank Kalanda, Ronald Otti, Emmanuel Obua and Tom Ikara are the other new signings at BUL FC.

She Corporate have learned their group opponent at the forthcoming CAF Women’s Champions League Regional Qualifiers.

The draws for the regional qualifying tournaments where a winner will advance to the second edition of the CAF Women’s Champions League were held on Wednesday in Morocco.

Ugandan champions She Corporate were pitted against Simba Queens who will host the qualifiers, Djibouti’s GRFC, and South Sudan side Yei Joint Stars.

The tournament will be played from August 14th-27th in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.

In preparation for continental football, She Corporate has so far acquired the services of Joanita Ainembabazi, Phoebe Banura, and Shadiah Namata.

Mustafa Kizza has promised to give his best and repay Portuguese Primiera Liga side Arouca FC’s faith after being unveiled.

Kizza whose last club was CF Montreal in the US MLS signed a three year deal with Arouca.

“I am extremely honoured to join Arouca for the next three years,” said part of the message he sent on social media.

“I am extremely honoured to join @OficialFCArouca the next 3 years. I promise to give my very best to the club who I thank for believing in me and the fans.

Kizza is one of the highly rated left backs in the country and has previously played for KCCA FC in Uganda.

About Arouca

The club is known as Futebol Club de Arouca and was founded 70 years ago. They host their matches at a 5,000 seater Estadio Municipal and led by Chairman Carlos Pinho.

Last season, they finished 15th out 18 teams with 31 points.

Confederation of African Football (CAF) President, Dr Patrice Motsepe has expressed his commitment to improving Ugandan football.

According to the FUFA website, Motsepe is working towards helping the region of East Africa scale to greater heights.

Mr Motsepe arrived in the country on Thursday evening and met the FUFA Executive Committee before concluding his visit on Friday.

He engaged the President of the Republic of Uganda, H.E Yoweri Kaguta Museveni and the Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Anita Annet Among as well.

“I am here to make a humble contribution to football development in this country and also have discussions with some of our people in the private sector to emphasize their role towards the game,” Motsepe said.

Mr Motsepe hinted at the idea of Uganda co-hosting the Africa Cup of Nations with Tanzania.

“I was told yesterday that Uganda and Tanzania are keen to host the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in these two beautiful countries.

“As the President of CAF, I have to support all the 54 Member Associations equally and must say that I would personally not only just welcome but encourage a joint hosting bid between these two countries because it will make a huge contribution to football development in Uganda and Tanzania.

“This region (CECAFA) has not hosted the Africa Cup of Nations before and it would be a good move to both Uganda and Tanzania not only in promoting football development but also other areas like tourism, investment and trade,” Motsepe added.

Busoga Masaza Cup 2022 | Football Results – Match Day 6:

The 2022 Busoga Masaza Cup tournament second round resumed over the weekend with six matches played at different venues.

A total of 12 goals were scored in the six games played on Sunday, 10th July 2022 and the subsequent day.

Bukooli Namayingo had the biggest victory, winning 3-0 over Busiki at Namayingo primary school playground.

Iduuma Odenga scored a brace in the 68th and 71st minutes. Hassan Bidondole had found the opener as early as the 7th minute.

At Buyende Primary school playground, Budiope fell at home 0-2 to visiting Buzaya.

A goal in either half inspired Buzaya to this victory with both goals coming through Geofrey Isoloza in the 3rd and 40th minutes.

Kigulu humbled visiting Bunho Bunanumba 2-1 at the Iganga Ssaza playground. Moses Kasule opened the scoring business in the 21st minute for Kigulu.

Samuel Napera brought the game level on the half hour mark as the first ended 1-goal apiece. Jamiru Mukungu restored Kigulu’s lead with a 56th minute strike.

At Hindocha primary school playground, Bukooli Bugiri edged visitors Bulamogi 2-1.

Bukooli Bugiri took a first half lead through James Innocent Matege who scored in the 12th minute.

Bulamogi brought the game level through Dasani Bwamiki 9 minutes into the second half.

Shabina Mugere found the winner for Bukooli Bugiri with 17 minutes left on the clock.

Rajab Waiswa was the hero for Bugabula as he netted the all-important goal during their 1-0 win on the road at the Ivukula sub county playground.

Meanwhile, only one game failed to produce any goal per side. This was the Luuka, Bugweri goalless stalemate at Luuka District headquarters playground.

Uganda Premier League Champions Vipers SC have completed the signing of Congolese goalkeeper Alfred Macumu Mudekereza on a three-year deal.

The Venoms confirmed the arrival of the shot-stopper bringing the total of new signings to four.

Mudekereza arrives from OC Bukawa Dawa (DR Congo) to beef up the goalkeeping docket that already has Fabien Mutombora, Derrick Kiggundu and Mutwalibu Magolofa.

“Vipers SC have completed the signing of Congolese Alfred Macumu Mudekereza on a free transfer,” reads a statement on the club website.

The 29-year-old expressed delight in joining Vipers; “I’m feeling very happy, really happy to be here and to work in this great club and ready to start doing my stuff on the pitch as soon as possible,” he told Vipers Media.

“I’m very ambitious, l come here to try to win everything, to try to push from the first minute and to make us better. Obviously l want to win more.

“I come here to fight for all the competitions. We have many competitions ahead – we’re going to fight for everything,” he added.

Vipers SC have signed DR Congo midfielder Olivier Osomba Omadjondo, their third signing of the pre-season.

The star has previously featured for Kiira Young close to ten years ago and joins on a three year deal.

He is hailing from Burundi’s Aigle Noir where he featured for only a single season.

Speaking to the club media, Osomba who has also played in his home country, Tunisia, Bahrain and Rwanda couldn’t hide his excitement and promised to give his best.

“I’m really happy and delighted to be here at Vipers SC. It’s a massive club and l promise to give my best,” Osomba told Vipers Media in his first interview. 

“It’s a pleasure to be here in Uganda and I’m very happy to be a part of this great club. And l thank the club for giving me this opportunity.”

Osomba has previously played for AS Nyuki on two stints, Kiira Young (Uganda) AS Dauphins Noirs, Tunisia’s US Tataounie, Al Najma of Bahrain, Rwanda’s Etincelles and recently Aigle Noir of Burundi.

He becomes the third Congolese born player to join Vipers after Clovis Mbayi and Ceaser Manzoki.

He joins new signings at the club; left back Isa Mubiru and midfielder Marvin Joseph Youngman from UPDF and Soltilo Bright Stars respectively.
