BUL Football Club has bolstered its goalkeeping department with the addition of Tom Ikara.

Ikara joins from Police Football Club on a two-year contract and becomes the club’s fourth signing following Ronald Otti (Mbarara), Frank Kalanda (Police), and Emmanuel Obua (Kyetume).

BUL’s goalkeeping department has Saidi Keni, Emmanuel Kalyowa and John Okurut.

Tom Ikara’s Football Journey

Ikara rose from BB Soda academy and Blacksmith Football Club in the lower divisions and later joined Kirinya-Jinja SS (now Busoga United) where he spent more than five years. He played for Kirinya from the Regional League to the Uganda Premier League.

He won the best goalkeeper award of the Fufa Big League (2015-16) after making 13 clean sheets, guiding Busoga to promotion to the UPL as well as winning the Big League title in his first season in the competition.

Ikara also kept 13 clean sheets in his first top-flight season (2016-17) despite Busoga facing the threat of relegation throughout the season.

He then moved to KCCA FC in January of 2018 where he won the league title before he was transferred to Mbarara City on loan in 2019 and later joined Police.

Crested Cranes’ journey at the 2022 Women Africa Cup of Nations ended with a 2-2 draw against Burkina Faso at Mohammed V Complex in Casablanca.

It was a disappointing result for the Crested Cranes who failed to capitalize on their numerical advantage against their opponents who played 73 minutes a player less.

Margaret Kunihira, playing her first game at the tournament, handed Uganda a dream start and the side looked poised for the win when Burkina Faso centre-back Madinatou Rouamba was given marching orders in the 17th minute.

However, the West Africans twice came from down to share the points.

Adama Congo strolled past Aisha Nantongo and Margaret Namirimu to slot in an equalizer in the 35th minute.

Sandra Nabweteme benefited from a misplaced pass from Alimata Belem to bundle in from just outside the box as Crested Cranes regained their lead shortly after.

Burkina Faso was back into the tie when Daisy Nakaziro who started in goal ahead made a mess of a tameable cross from Balkissa Sawadogo for Naomie Adele Kabre to level matters before halftime.

Lilian Mutuuzo and Ritah Kivumbi came close with the latter getting two good chances earlier to put Uganda ahead but fluffed both opportunities.

It was a one-sided second half but Burkina Faso twice threatened on the counterattack, with Namirimu making a good intervention on the last one to save the day.

Uganda leaves the tournament with a point to show and cannot be faulted for losses to Morocco and Senegal having played well.

Lutalo made three changes from the team that started against Morocco on Tuesday with winger Margret Kunihira and goalkeeper Daisy Nakaziro in line to make their first appearance at the tournament.

Kunihira starts on the right-wing joining Fazila Ikwaput and Fauzia Najjemba up front in the three-player attack.

Nakaziro starts in goal ahead of skipper Ruth Aturo who is sick and ruled out of the game. The other changes see Aisha Nantongo return to the starting XI to partner Margaret Namirimu in central defence.

Versatile player Phiona Nabbumba who played as a makeshift centre-back against Morocco will this time move to the right back position with Asia Nakibuuka moving to the left to replace Sumaya Komuntale who is suspended for the game following a red card against Morocco.

With Yudaya Nakayenze and Hasifah Nassuna still sidelined due to illness, the midfield is maintained with Joan Nabirye, Shamirah Nalugya and Sandra Nabweteme.

Yassar Mugerwa has denied agreeing to mutually terminate his contract with KCCA FC.

The midfielder signed a two year contract with the Kasasiro at the start of last season but is among the eight players the club has confirmed releasing just one year into the contract.

In a statement released by KCCA FC, Mugerwa is reported to have “mutually terminated” his contract.

“Yassar Mugerwa – (Mutually Terminated) – Yassar joined KCCA FC at the start of the 2021/22 season. He signed for two years until 2023. The club has terminated the contract,” read the statement.

However, moments after the 13-time champions released the statement, Mugerwa posted on his twitter account.

“I am a graduate who understands what ‘mutually terminated’ means.”

He also followed it with “Knowledge becomes power only when we put it into use.” While on Facebook, he regarded the statement as ‘Fake’

According to Kawowo Sport’s reliable sources, “Mugerwa still demands part of his sign on fees and isn’t happy with the club letting him go without fulfilling their part.”

Former Uganda Cranes captain and goal keeper Denis Onyango has credited the fans who were behind his side Mamelodi Sundowns as they secured their fifth title.

The last time Masandawana lifted the league title in front of a crowd was two years ago at Goble Park in Bethlehem to close off the 2018/19 season.

Downs’ captain Denis Onyango feels their supporters made an enormous contribution to the record-breaking win.

“First of all I would like to thank the fans for being behind us this past season because we really missed them in the stadiums,” he told the club website.

“When the stadiums finally opened they came in numbers, especially in the MTN8 they were with us and pushed us until the last whistle and that’s how we managed to win the MTN8.

“And of course in the league as well, the Nedbank Cup and the CAF Champions League they’ve been fantastic.”

“All we need to do is to keep encouraging them to come to the stadium and to push the boys because their support is really, really important to the team and we believe that we can go and win more trophies in the coming season.”

The current Masandawana captain is now looked ahead to win more silverware for the outfit.

“We are looking forward to the next season, it’s going to be interesting because teams have also beefed up their squads and we all need to give our best and try to win the Champions League because it’s overdue now.

“We believe that we have the ability and the quality to do that.”
