George Lutalo, the head coach of Crested Cranes, has named the travelling squad to Njeru ahead of the upcoming Cecafa Women Championship to be held early next month.

Foreign-based players that include goalkeepers Ruth Aturo, Vannessa Edith Karungi, Yudaya Nakayenze, Rita Kivumbi, and forward Fauzia Najjemba have been omitted.

It has been understood that the said players are still engaged with club duties and given that CECAFA is not recognized on the international FIFA calendar and thus most of these players are likely not to be released to attend the tournament unless their respective leagues have ended.

The team will be trimmed again to make the final number of 32 players for the tournament.

The Cecafa Women’s Championship will kick start on 1st June and run till 11th June at the Fufa Technical Center in Njeru.

Uganda IS in Group A alongside Rwanda, Burundi, and Djibouti.

This year’s tournament will see eight teams participate in the upcoming Cecafa Women’s Championship.

The tournament will be used to prepare for the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations that will take place in July in Morocco.

StarTimes Uganda Premier League champions Vipers SC wrapped up their league campaign with a resounding 5-0 win over Police FC at Kitende.

Milton Karisa and Bobosi Byaruhanga netted a brace each while the other goal came from Yunus Sentamu in the one-sided encounter.

Karisa put Venoms ahead in the 6th minute of the game to send the home fans into wild celebrations.

The Venoms who were dominant had plenty of chances to score more in the first half but Yunus Sentamu and Halid Lwaliwa failed when in front of the goal.

Seven minutes into the second half, Karisa doubled his side’s lead off a rebound after Bobosi Byaruhanga’s initial had hit the post.

Two minutes later, Bobosi made it three with a fine finish before completing his brace in the 71st minute.

Sentamu put the icing on the cake with a fifth of the game in the 90th minute to seal a deserved win for the Venoms.

The win, the 23rd of the season, meant Vipers finish on 74 points an indicator of how good they have been this term as they were 18 points clear of second-placed KCCA FC, who lost their last game of the season against Wakiso Giants on Saturday.

It was a joyful day for the Vipers faithful at St Mary’s Stadium as their side was handed the 2021-22 league title.

On the same evening, Police FC captain Tonny Mawejje was honoured in the sixth minute of the game to mark the end of his playing career.

The Venoms have a chance to win a double this season as they face Bul FC in the Uganda Cup final.

Utility footballer Sadam Masereka will study Bachelor of Business Administration and Management at Lindsey Wilson College in the United States of America (USA) from August 2022 to May 2026.

The former Uganda’s U-17 and U-20 player met all standards for admission according to Anna Peterson, the Assistant Director of International Student Programs at Lindsey Wilson College.

“After review and evaluation in the United States of his (Masereka) application, transcripts, or other records of courses taken and proof of financial responsibility, the student will be required to pursue a full program of study,” Peterson revealed.

Masereka is expected to depart the country by June 2022 for the Columbia – Kentucky-based United Methodist College.

For starters, Masereka is a product of the national Copa Coca-Cola championship (won the Copa trophy with Buddo in 2018).

He has also played for the Uganda U-20 (Hippos) and was recently elevated to the U-23 (Kobs) team where he debuted during Uganda’s two international build-up matches against Saudi Arabia in Riyadh City.

The utility player featured at Buddo SSS, Nyamityobora, Jinja-based BUL and lately Sports Club Villa in the StarTimes Uganda Premier League.

She Corporate Football Club were crowned champions of the 2021-22 FUFA Women Super League. The Sharks won the title on the final day of the season.

To win the League, the Nakawa-based side held fellow contenders Kampala Queens FC to a goalless draw and thus emerged champions on goal difference.

She Corporate had a better goal difference, one better than Kampala Queens as both teams finished the season on 39 points.

Right from the start of the season, She Corporate showed their intentions and was consistent throughout despite Kampala Queens’ late run.

Phiona Nabbumba and Daphine Nyayenga both from She Corporate FC were named MVP and best goalkeeper respectively while Lady Doves striker Fazila Ikwaput finished the season as the top scorer with 15 goals that were matched by Hasifah Nassuna of UCU Lady Cardinal.

Other final day games

Meanwhile, Rines SS WFC who survived relegation on the final day of the league received the Fair Play Award having registered the least bookings (9 yellow cards).

In the other games played, Tooro Queens played out a goalless draw against She Maroons who got relegated while Olila High School WFC and Kawempe Muslim Ladies FC encounter ended in a 1-1 draw.

In Mukono, Hasifah Nassuna bagged a hat trick in UCU Lady Cardinals’ 4-2 win over Uganda Martyrs WFC.

Women League Champions:

The 2022 Uganda Cup final will be between reigning Champions Vipers SC and BUL FC follwoing a successful completion of the semifinal ties where both teams came out victorious.

BUL FC eliminated Booma on Wednesday to progress to the final 6-1 on aggregate. The Jinja based outfit won the return leg 1-0 at Kyabazinga Stadium, Bugembe courtesy of Kari Ndugwa’s goal.

Therefore, BUL will face Vipers in the final on 12th June 2022 at Masindi Stadium. This is a repeat of last season’s final where the Venoms triumphed 8-0 at FUFA Technical Centre, Njeru.

Vipers are seeking to win the Cup for the third time but also attempting to win a domestic double having won the Uganda Premier League already.

BUL FC on the other hand want to encrypt their name on the winner’s list for the first time.

She Corporate FC and Kampala Queens FC will face off in a title decider as the 2021/22 FUFA Women Super League comes to an end on Friday this week.

The two teams won their games on Tuesday to ensure the Champion will be determined on the final day.

Kampala Queens overcame resilient Olila High School at IUIU Ground Kabojja, winning the game 1-0.

Resty Nanziri capitalized on a goalkeeping blunder to score the lone goal of the game that eventually brought all three points.

Olila’s goalkeeper Esther Okello Akite failed to deal with Margaret Kunihira’s free kick and instead threw the ball to Nanziri who did no mistake to slot into an empty net.

She Corporate on the other hand won with the same scoreline thanks to Whisper Alomo’s goal in the first half.

With both Kampala Queens and She Corporate level on 38 points, Friday’s clash at MUBS Arena, Nakawa will be decider.

She Corporate need just a draw to clinch the title while Kampala Queens must win to emerge Champions.

In the other Matchday 17 games played, Kawempe Muslim Ladies FC defeated Lady Doves FC 2-0 while Rines SS WFC and UCU Lady Cardinals played out a one all draw.

She Maroons are officially relegated after suffering a 5-1 defeat at the hands of Uganda Martyrs WFC.

Vipers Sports Club completed a double-over Mbarara City FC to book their spot in the final of the 2022 Stanbic Uganda Cup.

Leading 2-1 from the opening leg played at Kakyeka in Mbarara, the Venoms made lightweight of the Ankole Lions winning the return leg 4-0 at St Mary’s Stadium Kitende on Wednesday.

All four goals were scored in the second half. The first came three minutes after the recess with Ronald Otti scoring an own-goal off a Bobosi Byaruhanga corner.

Milton Karisa then lashed onto Najib Yiga’s perfect pass before firing home.

Yunus Sentamu collected from Karisa, went past Otti, and found space to squeeze his effort in off Muhammad Ssekeba.

In added time, Sentamu turned provider as he set up Byaruhanga to sweep home the fourth and punctuate a well-worked victory.

Vipers are now a victory away from winning their first-ever domestic double, having already sealed the StarTimes Uganda Premier League.

In the final, they will likely take on BUL FC who will take on Booma in their return leg on Wednesday. BUL leads 5-1 on aggregate.

The MTN Uganda-sponsored Busoga Masaza Cup 2022 kicked off on Saturday, 14th May at St Gonzaga Gonza Senior Secondary School in Kagoma.

The Kyabazinga of Busoga Kingdom, His Majesty the Kyabazinga William Gabula Nadiope IV Isebantu, graced the official opening match of the fifth edition.

Butembe edged Buzaaya 1-0 thanks to Faruku Magumba’s goal with 17 minutes left on the clock of the well-attended match. Magumba’s goal came after a decent assist from Franco Mugomba.
