FUFA has confirmed the Referees that will be in charge of the first leg fixtures in the semifinals of the 2021/22 Uganda Cup.

FIFA certified centre referee Ali Sabila Chelangat will be in charge of the match between Booma FC and BUL FC on Tuesday, 10th May at Masindi Municipal Stadium.

He will work with Issa Masembe and Emmanuel Okudra as the first and second assistant Referees respectively.

Henry Byaruhanga will serve as the fourth official while retired FIFA Referee Bria Miiro Nsubuga has been appointed the Referees assessor.

In the other semifinal, where Mbarara City FC will host holders Vipers SC on Wednesday, Asaduh Ssemere will be the centre referee working alongside Lee Okello and Gilbert Ngyendo as first and second assistant referee respectively.

Shamirah Nabadda will be the fourth official while Henry Harry Basiisa is the referees assessor.

The winners on aggregate will advance to the final.

Rashid Kawawa stood out as Arua Hill humbled hosts Onduparaka with a 3-0 defeat at the Green Light stadium

Kawawa scored a brace and Innocent Maduka netted the other to hand the away side victory over their nemesis.

Kawawa broke the deadlock at the stroke of halftime to send the travelling fans into frenzy before substitute Maduka headed into an empty net on the hour mark.

Kawawa then sealed the win in the 77th minute to condemn Onduparaka to their first defeat in the derby following a goalless draw in the first round clash.

The hosts finished the game with a man less after John Rogers was sent off in the 61st minute for a second bookable offence.

The match was disrupted by home fans but later resumed with the Kongolo now moving to 4th place with 49 points, same as URA who lie third but have played one game less.

The Caterpillars remain 8th on the 16-team table with 34 points after 28 games.

Onduparaka’s next game is at home against Soltilo Bright Stars on Saturday next week while Arua Hill will be away to record champions SC Villa.

Richard Basangwa netted a hat-trick as newcomers Gaddafi compounded misery on relegated Tooro United in a 7-0 humbling defeat.

Ronald Bithum (brace), Steven Muguchi and Alex Kitaata were also on the score sheet as Gaddafi thrived.

Basangwa’s first goal arrived on the half hour mark to take the score line to 3-0 after Kitaata and Muguchi had scored in the 10th and 22nd minutes respectively.

He added the other in the 79th minute before he completed his hat-trick with six minutes to play.

The win ended a nine-match streak with victory for the debutants who now climb to 10th place on the table with 31 points with two games to play.

Their next game is at home against KCCA next Saturday while Tooro United who are rock bottom with 10 points will visit Mbarara City on the same day.

The draws for the Uganda Cup semifinals have been conducted.

Cup holders Vipers Sports Club will face Mbarara City in an all-Premier League affair.

Regional League side Booma, the only non-Uganda Premier League team remaining in the competition, has been handed a BUL FC assignment.

Semifinal Rules at a Glance

All ties at this round shall be played on a two-leg basis (Home and Away). The away goals rule shall apply if teams are tied by goals after two legs.

There shall be no extra time, and if the tie is level and spot-kicks shall be applied.

The first legs will be played between the 10th and 12th of May while the return legs will be played May 17th-19th, 2022.

The final will be on played on June 11/12, 2022 at a yet to be confirmed venue.

Semifinal Fixtures

FC Cincinnati 2 has announced the signing of defender Musa Ramathan on a loan through 2022, with an option to purchase.

Ramathan’s move from MFK Vyskov of the Czech National Football League to the United States is pending league and federation approval in addition to ITC and work authorization.

“I’d like to welcome Musa to Cincinnati,” said Tyrone Marshall, Head Coach of FC Cincinnati 2 as quoted by the club website. “He is a physical central defender with great potential who we believe can help our group and develop within the FC Cincinnati environment.”

The Ugandan U-20 international made six appearances at the 2021 Africa U20 Cup of Nations the Hippos. He joined Czech second division side Vyskov in February, after nearly four years with KCCA Football Club.

Musa Ramathan at a glance

Crested Cranes coach George William Lutalo has summoned a training squad of 47 players to start preparations for the CECAFA Women Championship and Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.

The training quad has fourteen players that ply their trade outside Uganda.

“Our technical and scouting team has done a very good job to monitor these players. We have summoned these players and we think they can do the best job for us,” the team head coach George Lutalo said during the Press Conference on Wednesday at FUFA House in Mengo.

Former team captain Tracy Jones Akiror is back on the team since moving to the United States in August 2019 while Salena Allibhai who plays for KAA Gent in Belgium, is the only foreign-based player who will be looking to make a debut for the national side.

The team will enter residential camp on Friday, 7th May at FUFA Technical Center in Njeru for the CECAFA Women’s Championship that will be played from 22nd May to 5th June 2022.

The Crested Cranes will use this tournament to prepare for the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations as Uganda seeks to impress on its return to the continent after 22 years.

Telecom giants MTN Uganda will bankroll the 2022 Busoga Masaza Cup edition by sinking in Shs 350,000,000.

The tournament starts on 14th May with an opener between Buzaya and Butembe at Kagoma playground.

This will be the 5th edition since inception and will cost over UgX400m according to Owek.Osman Noor Ahmed-2nd Deputy Premier.

Busoga Kingdom Sports Minister Owek. Amin Bbosa revealed on Sunday 1st May, that 14 counties are participating in this year’s tournament.

The winner will take home a trophy with UgX10m,1st runners up UgX7m,2nd runners-up UgX5m and 4th team UgX3m.

We are doing everything humanly possible to even draw more corporate companies to partner with the Kingdom in our pursuit of identifying and developing natural talents”, he said before appealing to the people of Busoga to support the two corporate companies who continue to embrace the cultural institution. The official openning match for the tournament is 14th May 2022 at Kagoma play ground where Buzaya will be up against Butembe.

The Kyabazinga of Busoga His Majesty William Wilberforce Gabula Nadiope IV will grace the official opening match.

The theme of the tournament is talent identification, development and promotion. Kigulu are the defending champions.

St Mary’s SS Kitende have claimed the Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Association football championship.

Kitende defeated debutants Gombe SS 2-0 in a final played before a mammoth crowd at Barifa Stadium in Arua City.

Kitende, who won the previous edition in Jinja City in 2019 were aided by two first-half goals from Elvis Ngondwe and Charles Lwanga.

Gombe, the crowd favourites, started strongly but their passing game was restricted to their own half.

The title was Kitende’s tenth national trophy since they won their first in 2004 and coach Edward Golola was excited about the side’s victory.

“This gives us a platform to prepare our team well for the East African games,” Golola said,

“With the uncertainty brought by the two missed years during Covid, we were not sure of our players but now they have morale and momentum.”

Oscar Mawa was named top scorer while Travis Mutyaba was tournament MVP despite missing most of the final with an injury. Goalkeeper Safi Apangu was the best of the tournament.

Kitende, Gombe and Kibuli, who beat Buddo 3-0 in the classification final, will represent Uganda in the East African games scheduled in August in Tabora, Tanzania.

Previous Winners

Uganda Senior Women’s National Football Team (Crested Cranes) have been placed in the same group with hosts Morocco in the group stage for the 2022 Africa Women Cup of Nations.

The draws were conducted on Friday in Rabat and Uganda was pitted against hosts Morocco and debutants Senegal and Burkina Faso.

Uganda in Group A will start the tournament against Burkina Faso on 3rd July 2022, hosts Morocco shall have played Senegal in the opening game a day earlier.

Matchday two for Crested Cranes will come two days later against hosts Morocco before ending the group stage with an encounter against Senegal on 8th July 2022.

This is the second time that Uganda is featuring at the finals of the coveted continental showpiece having made their maiden appearance in 2000.

To qualify for this year’s edition, Crested Cranes eliminated Ethiopia at the first round before earning a walkover against Kenya who withdrew from the Qualifiers.

The tournament in Morocco will be played between 2nd -23rd July with the semifinalists qualifying for the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

Defending champions of Busoga Masaza Cup – Kigulu Chiefdom have appointed Hakim Magumba as their team ambassador ahead of the tournament.

The franchise seeks to retain their title after first winning it in 2017 and again in 2019.

According to the team’s Publicist, Ismael Waiswa, Rashid Matovu Twamulabirawo (Chairperson), Rashid Mbuga (Vice-Chairperson in charge of Administration, Webster Kula (Vice-chairperson technical) have been appointed into the respective positions to bolster the side’s chances this term.

The team manager is Ahmed Kongola with Arafat Kirege Gonga being the C.E.O.

Others are; Sowedi Baligasima (Treasurer) Ritah Namutamba (Assistant Treasurer), Ismael Waiswa Typpaca and Paul-Kulumba are managing Public Relations with Mariam Babirye Mariam being in charge of the team’s welfare.

Mobilizer for Kigulu North is Nasser Ibanda, Kigulu South is Bernard Mpungu whereas Yakuti Kalange will be in charge of Iganga municipality.

The team’s security went to Nasser Ferguson Mukisa, Fans coordinator is Jowali Maka with Yusuf Bagalaliwo a.k.a Gadiola being the Head coach and will be deputized by Umar Matende (Girudu), Hassan Bajja Bagabo, Musa Lukungu as goalkeeping coach.

Ali George Waibi is the physiotherapist while Salim Mansen is the kits Manager while Bruhan Biso is the Stadium manager with Hajj Asuman Mpata of Iganga Parents becoming the team’s patron.

This committee is duty-bound to deliver the title come August during the finals.
