The Council of East and Central Africa Football Associations (CECAFA) has announced Uganda will host the 2022 Women’s Championship.

The decision was made at CECAFA’s Annual General Assembly held on Friday, 25th February at the Four Points By Sheraton Hotel in Arusha, Tanzania.

“While the Assembly agreed that a criteria for members planning to host be drawn for the other six tournaments planned for the year, Uganda made it clear they were ready to host the Women’s Senior Championship,” reads part of the statement from CECAFA.

FUFA President Moses Hassim Magogo believes the tournament will be good preparation for both Uganda and Burundi who have qualified for the 2022 Women Africa Cup of Nations.

“The Championship will help to polish both Uganda and Burundi ahead of the Women Africa Cup of Nations in July and as FUFA, we are willing and ready to host it,” said Magogo.

The dates for the tournament will be announced at a later time.

The last time Uganda hosted the Championship was in 2016 and Tanzania lifted the trophy.

Uganda Cranes forward Farouk Miya says he is safe and sound after his host country – Ukraine drifted into war with Russia five days go.

Miya had just signed a contract with FC Lviv last month but his stay was short lived following Russian President Vladimir Putin’s orders of an invasion of Ukraine by Russian Armed Forces.

Lviv is a city in western Ukraine, around 70 kilometers from the border with Poland and is currently hosting a host of displaced Ukrainians from the Capital Kyiv.

Yesterday, Miya wrote on his social media; “Hi everyone, I’m fine and safe. I’m eternally thankful for the messages.”

According to Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA), Miya’s club is working on taking it’s “players to Poland.”

About 100,000 people have already crossed the border into Poland from Ukraine since Russia’s invasion began says the Polish Government. On Friday alone nearly 50,000 people had crossed into Poland from Ukraine.

Miya made his debut for the Uganda national team on 11 July 2014 against Seychelles. Since 2015, the 24 year-old has featured in 62 games and scored 19 goals on the team.

Uganda Cranes defender Bevis Mugabi says he is “lucky and privileged” to continue his career at Scottish professional football club Motherwell after extending his stay to 2024.

Mugabi signed with the Steelmen following an impressive run of form at centre-back and right-back this season.

He joined the club in 2019 on a short-term deal following a stint at Yeovil Town but grew into a fan favourite but also a regular currently under manager Graham Alexander.

Mugabi talked up his feelings with Daily Record; “I feel good. I feel it has been overdue as it has been brewing for the past few months. I am happy just to get it over the line and now I can focus on the rest of the season.

“It accelerated pretty quickly (in the last few weeks) so now I am looking forward to my next couple of years here. The club has welcomed me from the minute I came in on a six-month contract.

“The club have showed faith in me and they have been patient with me in my performances. They gave me an opportunity, even when I struggled at first, so I just want to pay them back over the next couple of years.

“I was stop-start at first but I think everybody can see the improvement I have made this season. I feel like I have a lot more to prove too.”

Since joining the club, Mugabi has made 62 appearances in ML1. On 12 September 2019, he signed for Motherwell on a contract until January 2020. On 22 November 2019, it was extended until the summer of 2021.

Despite conceding the equalizer, Hendon again took the lead five minutes before the break through Joe White’s header.

Clarke went on to get his second with a superb strike after an hour but Gio McGregor made it 3-2 when he rifled home a free-kick from 30 yards with fourteen minutes left.

Allassani brought the Hamelt back level in the 83rd minute when he found the bottom corner but they lost 5-3 on penalties.

Sekajja who has scored 4 goals so far this season, will most likely return to action when Dulwich host nineteenth-place Braintree Town this weekend.

KCCA FC manager Morley Byekwaso has echoed the team’s desire to win a double this season ahead of their Stanbic Uganda Cup tie against Bright Stars.

The Kasasiro who won a double in 2017 under Mike Mutebi hosts Stars at the MTN Omondi Stadium in Lugogo in a Round of 32 fixture today.

“Our targets have never changed. We want to win the League and Uganda Cup,” Byekwaso said. “The players, technical and management are all focused on this and that is the goal,” he added.

Byekwaso has urged his players to be sharper in front of goal.

“It is a bit worrying that our forwards are not scoring but we have handed the responsibility to each and every player to score. We have taken them through drills that enable each and everyone to score goals when handed a goal-scoring opportunity.”

The league meeting between the two sides ended in a 1-1 draw in the first round when they visited Bright Stars at Kavumba.

Kyambogo Rugby Football Club, a URU Central Championship side, has made changes to their technical staff.

The club appointed Kevin Makmot as their head coach. He will be assisted by Reuben Kihumuro.

The former Rugby Cranes scrumhalf started duty this week and will take charge of his first game over the weekend when Kyambogo takes on Black Pirates’ development side Sailors.

Makmot has been coaching Jinja Hippos and was, prior to that, in charge of Warriors.

Kyambogo have won two games and lost as many this term as they look to shake off competition from mainly Jaguars and Eagles from a place in the top-flight next season.

Police FC coach Abdallah Mubiru is optimistic about progressing to the next round of the Uganda Cup ahead of their clash with Gaddafi FC in the Round of 32.

The Cops host the Jinja-based side at the MTN Omondi stadium in the early kick-off on the day before KCCA entertains Soltilo Bright Stars.

Speaking to the media, Mubiru who guided the Cops to the semifinals last season says he has been impressed with his players’ attitude in training.

“We have had good preparations and every player available is ready to give his best. Our target is to go as far as possible in this competition and we shall do all to win the game,” he said.

The two sides have previously met in the league at this same venue with the Cops coming from behind twice to pick a draw.

“Our targets have never changed. We want to win the League and Uganda Cup. The players, technical, and management are all focused on this and that is the goal,” he told the club media.

“It is a bit worrying that our forwards are not scoring but we have handed the responsibility to each and every player to score.

“We have taken them through drills that enable each and everyone to score goals when handed a goal-scoring opportunity.”

The former SC Villa midfielder also revealed that youngsters Julius Poloto, Sadat Anaku, and Ali Mwirusi are in the squad to face the Stars after returning from Europe where they were part of the Fundi Team.

“Anaku, Mwirusi, and Poloto are back and we shall assess them in the last training. Iguma is back and will make the squad; Kaddu will miss this game but will most likely be back for the next game against Express.”
