KCCA Football Club and Express Football Club settled for a goalless draw in the Kampala Derby played at the MTN Omondi Stadium in Lugogo.

The Red Eagles will have goalkeeper Denis Otim to thank for picking a point after putting up a Man of the Match performance between the sticks.

The hosts dominated the first half as visitors sat and defended in numbers. However, Issa Lumu seemingly did not match the intensity required for the game and Wasswa Bbosa withdrew him just 20 minutes into the game.

Lumu was troubled by Sadat Anaku and was booked before Deus Bukenya took his place.

Returning Ashraf Mugume had a shot rattle the crossbar while Otim made a brilliant save to deny Anaku from close range as KCCA searched for the opener.

Goalkeeper Benjamin Ochan misjudged a corner kick and nearly gifted the visitors as halftime approached but midfielder Charles Musiige couldn’t find the target with his shot.

After recess, the Kasasiro were on the front foot again. Herbert Achai fired over the bar while Rodgers Mato missed a sitter after being set up by Anaku.

Anaku later had a couple of chances, the first kept out by Otim and the other off Brian Majwega’s cross hitting the post with the keeper beaten.

KCCA is still top of the pile with 28 points from 12 games, just two above second-placed Vipers who have played a game less. Express is 5th with 20 points from 12 games.

International Friendlies | Abu Dhabi, UAE

Premier League leaders KCCA Football Club host defending champions Express Football Club in a highly-anticipated clash at the MTN Omondi Stadium in Lugogo.

KCCA is still unbeaten in 11 games but the visiting Express poses a tough hurdle for Morley Byekwaso’s side that has dropped points against Vipers and SC Villa in the last three games.

The Kasasiro have been excellent at home this term winning all their games at Lugogo while also scoring freely in some. They will be inspired by Express’ poor run at the ground having picked just a single point in the last four visits.

However, Wasswa Bbosa, the head coach of the Red Eagles, says they have prepared well for the games and the purpose is to reduce the gap.

“We’ve prepared well ahead of tomorrow’s game against KCCA FC, we know we’re away but our target is one, to win and close the gap between us and them since they are table leaders,” Bbosa said ahead of the clash.

The two sides are separated by 8 points and a win for Express will bring them into the title discussion while a win for KCCA will see them open a four-point lead over second-placed Vipers.

Team News

KCCA is boosted by the return of Musa Ramathan, Ashraf Mugume, Innocent Wafula, and Sadat Anaku from suspension.

However, Julius Poloto, Yassar Mugerwa, Peter Magambo, and Geoffrey Wasswa are ruled out of the tie. Brian Kayanja and Emmanuel Wasswa remain long-term absentees.

For the visitors, Martin Kizza will be a subject of a late fitness test while Abel Etrude and Arthur Kiggundu remain sidelined with long-term injuries.
