His contract is up at the end of the season and the centre-back is open to discussing a new deal with the Premiership side.

“I’m under contract until next summer,” Mugabi told The Daily Record. “It’s a place I could see myself settling down for sure. The fans have welcomed me and since the manager came in, I’ve been playing consistently as well.

“I work hard every day and since leaving Uganda, I follow the game religiously and support my colleagues every time they have a game.”

His target in the next few years is continue developing, to be playing in one of the top leagues in Europe and Cranes.

“The target is to continue developing as a player and play in one of the top five leagues in Europe and also playing for Cranes on a regular basis.”

Besides Austria Wien II and Vipers JT (2014-16), Kato has featured for youth sides in France – Red Stars FC (2017-18) and Creteil FC (2019-20) which saw him after exploits with KJT where he won the Gothia Cup in Norway.

Uganda Cranes coach Micho Milutin Sredojević has defended his World Cup Qualifiers record with the national team in the wake of their 1-0 loss to Mali on Sunday.

Micho was in charge of the side that succumbed to defeat at the hands of Nantes forward Khalifa Coulibaly who scored the winner for Mali from a free kick after Ismail Watenga has misjudged the flight of the ball.

The tactician has been under fire since despite the loss being Uganda’s first in six games of the campaign. Responding to growing concerns, Micho listed his record with the team at the stage only blighted by losses to Senegal and Mali.

According to the statistics, Micho has been in charge of 13 games at the stage, won 7 games, drawn 4 and lost 2.

“My personal records in WC QUALIFIERS with UGANDA CRANES serving respectfully… 13 P/7 W/4D/2L/12GF/3GA,” read his post on social media.

Even though the Cranes lost only one game in the 2022 World Cup Qualifiers campaign, the total of 9 points wasn’t sufficient enough to enable progression to the next stage.

Uganda Cranes captain Khalid Aucho is confident the national team will bounce back stronger following their failed 2022 World Cup bid.

The Micho Milutin Sredojević coached side lost 1-0 courtesy of Nantes forward Khalifa Coulibaly who headed home after Ismail Watenga misjudged the flight of the ball.

The Cranes had a more positive approach pressing high up the pitch in the second half and asked a few questions to the Mali defence but it wasn’t sufficient enough to overturn the result.

Talking up the campaign, Aucho feels the team will return stronger. “Well, not the best of qualifiers we had but I would like to commend all the players, technical staff, Fufa, sponsors and above all, our beloved supporters for being with us throughout this journey.

“We hope to bounce back even stronger.”

Uganda finished second in Group E with nine points, seven behind Mali who topped the group. In six games played, Uganda won twice (vs Rwanda), drawn three and lost one – scored 3 goals and conceded 2 in the process.
