Malawi side Nyasa Big Bullets Football Club is through to the finals of the Cecafa Kagame Cup after edging Azam FC 4-2 in a penalty shootout.

Normal time of the clash at Azam Sports Complex in Chamazi ended in a four-goal thriller while extra time produced no goals.

Bright Munthali netted a brace for Nyasa Big Bullets while Nickson Nyasulu scored an own goal and Evancy Tepsi Theonasy got the other for Azam.

Munthali gave Nyasa Big Bullets the lead inside 2 minutes, a cushion that was carried into the halftime break.

Nyasulu beat his own goalkeeper to draw Azam level with 23 minutes to play and six minutes later Theonasy put the hosts in the lead.

Munthali drew the tournament guest side level with 12 minutes to the end of normal time.

With the game tied at two-all after extra time, a penalty shoot-out had to be called to decide the winner. Yamikani Fodya, Hassan Kajoke, Fantastic Kayira, and Nyasulu converted their kicks for Nyasa Big Bullets.

Theonasy and Mwaikenda were on target for Azam as Gadafi Said and Abdulrazak Hamza missed their kicks.

Nyasa Big Bullets will face Ugandan champions Express Football Club in the final to be played on Saturday, 14th August 2021.

The winner of the final will pocket $30,000, runners-up $20,000, and $10,000 for the third-placed team (which will be either Azam or KMKM).

The Federation of Uganda Football Associations (Fufa) has promised to reward Express should the Red Eagles win the Cecafa Kagame Cup on Saturday.

Fufa made the promise after Express beat KMKM of Zanzibar 2-1 in the semifinals on Tuesday to qualify for their first final since 1995.

Twenty-five members of Express contingent in Dar as Salaam will each pocket $1000 according to a statement from Fufa.

“21 players in camp and 4 Officials (Leader of Delegation, Head Coach, Assistant Coach, and Goalkeeping Coach) will earn USD1,000 each as staked by FUFA if they win the final,” reads a statement from Fufa.

FUFA made a similar promise to KCCA Football Club in 2019 during the tournament held in Kigali, Rwanda and fulfilled the promise when KCCA won the cup.

In the final, Express will take on the winner between Azam and Nyasa Big Bullets who face off on Wednesday in the other semifinal.

Arua Hills Sports Club has officially confirmed parting ways with their head coach Hussein Mbalangu.

The club cited excessive violation of the code of conduct and neglecting of the club official summons as the reasons for relieving Mbalangu of his duties.

“The management of Arua Hill SC would like to announce that the club has parted ways with the head coach Hussein Mbalangu, assistant Joseph Kiwanuka and goalkeeping coach Ivan Ntambi,” read a press statement in part.

“The decision was reached due to excessive breakage of the club code of conduct and absconding the club calls. We wish them well in their future endeavors.”

Bosco Onama and Borine Olima Ahmed will take over the official touchline matters in the meantime the club continues with the search for a new technical team.

Express Football Club is through to the finals of the 2021 Cecafa Kagame Cup after beating KMKM 2-1 on Tuesday night at Azam Sports Complex.

Eric Kambale scored the winning goal from the penalty spot in added time to send the Red Eagles to the final of the regional club competition for the first time since 1995.

While Express went into the fixture as strong favourites, it was the Zanzibar side that took the lead at the stroke of halftime through Ibrahim Abdallah.

Wasswa Bbosa’s men made amends ten minutes into the second half with Muzamir Mutyaba drawing Express level through a well-executed freekick.

The search for the winner went on until the third minute of added time when Kambale calmly converted from 12 yards after winger Martin Kizza had been fouled in the area.

Express await the winner between Azam and Nyasa Big Bullets who face off on Wednesday in the other semifinal.

The Cecafa Kagame Cup final will be played on Saturday.

Uganda Cranes will hold a training camp in Dubai, United Arab Emirates ahead of the start of the 2022 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers according to reports.

The camp is intended to give returning head coach Milutin “Micho” Sredojevic an opportunity to put together a team that will feature in the upcoming engagements.

It’s the second time that Micho is coaching the Uganda Cranes having managed the national side between 2013-2017 which culminated into an AFCON appearance after nearly four decades.

During the training camp, it’s reported that the Cranes will play a couple of friendlies against Ethiopia and another side is yet to be confirmed.

The date for the camp and the friendlies are yet to be communicated by the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (Fufa).

World Cup Qualifiers Group

Uganda is pooled in Group E of the preliminary round along with neighbours Kenya and Rwanda as well as Mali. The Cranes will start their FIFA World Cup qualification campaign on 1st September 2021 against neighbors Kenya in Nairobi before hosting Mali at St. Mary’s Kitende, five days later.

The doubleheader against Rwanda will be played at the start of October. The first will be a trip to Kigali on 6th October and a return leg in Kampala four days later.

The Cranes will wind up the group stage in November with the penultimate against Kenya at home before travelling to Bamako, Mali.

Final Qualifying Round

It should be noted the table leaders of the 10 preliminary qualifying groups on the continent will face off in the final round to determine the five teams that will represent Africa at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

Therefore, Uganda Cranes have to top their group to advance to the second and final qualifying round to the prestigious global showpiece.

Express Football Club is two games away from winning its maiden CECAFA Kagame Cup.

The first of the two is a semifinal clash against Zanzibari side KMKM tonight at the Azam Sports Complex, Chamazi in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.

Mukwano Gw’abangi reached the penultimate stage of the regional club competition after topping Group A with 7 points.

On the other hand, KMKM who are making the semifinals for the first time knicked a place in the last four ahead of defending champions KCCA, finishing second in Group B.

Wasswa Bbosa, the head coach of the Red Eagles who are playing the tournament semifinals for the first time since 1995, is confident the side will progress as they have been improving after every other match.

“We are ready for the semifinals matchup against KMKM of Zanzibar. They are a good team and focused but the most important thing is that we’re also focused and we want to win so that we reach the finals,” Bbosa told the club website.

“The level at which we are playing is changing per game, we are becoming more match fit and confident. So we hope it will help us even in Kampala when we go to face Bul FC in the semifinals of the Uganda Cup. We shall take this confidence and belief so that we win that game and qualify for the finals.”

Winger Godfrey Lwesibawa is suspended from the game after accumulating two yellow cards while assistant captain Abel Etrude returns from suspension following a red card and is available for selection.

Team captain Enock Walusimbi suffered a knock against Yanga and could be a game-time decision for coach Bbosa.

The rest of the squad are fit and available for selection.

Cecafa Kagame Cup Semifinals

Tanzania giants Young Africans Sports Club have signed Uganda Cranes midfielder Khalid Aucho.

The defensive midfielder joined the club on Monday after putting pen to paper.

Aucho has been plying his trade at Egyptian side Misr El Mekkasa for the last three years but his contract came to an end last month.

Before moving to Egypt, Aucho had played at Gor Mahia and Tusker FC in Kenya, Red Star Belgrade, and OFK Beograd in Serbia as well as Churchill Brothers in India.

He becomes the fifth signing for Yanga as they embark on preparations for next season. The others include Malian goalkeeper Djidui Diarra, Fiston Mayele, Heritier Makambo, and Djuma Shabani.

Stanbic Uganda Cup 2021 | Semifinals Draws

The draws for the semifinals of the Stanbic Uganda Cup have been held at FUFA House in Mengo.

Police Football Club shall battle Vipers Sports Club with the Cops hosting the first leg at MTN Omond Stadium in Lugogo.

In the other semifinal, BUL Football Club will take on Express Football Club with the Jinja-based side hosting the first leg at Kyabazinga Stadium in Bugembe.

“This stage will be played over two legs. In case of a tie, the away goal’s rule will be used to determine the winner. Cautions only serve in the Stanbic Uganda Cup. 2020-21 season licenses will be used,” Aisha Nalule, the FUFA Competitions Director, said.

The four matches will be played between 19th August and 31st August 2021.

Past Uganda Cup winners (Last 10 Years)

Cecafa Kagame Cup defending champions KCCA Football Club have suffered an early exit from the 2021 regional club championship.

The 2019 winners of the tournament in Kigali lost their last Group B game against Burundi’s Messager Ngozi on Saturday night.

Eric Mbirizi scored the only goal of the game in the 34th minute that left KCCA FC at the foot of Group B and ultimately out of the tourney.

KCCA’s best chance fell to Musa Ramathan but the center back headed Brian Majwega’s corner onto the crossbar.

Juma Balinya had a couple of chances for KCCA, with the first headed into the side net while the second, a powerful shot, was saved by an outstanding goalkeeper Onesime Lukundo.

Express Football Club staged a masterclass performance against Young Africans to reach the semifinals of the CECAFA Kagame Cup.

The Red Eagles thumped Tanzanian giants Yanga 3-1 on Saturday evening at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Saalam.

Winger Godfrey Lwesibawa, attacking midfeilder Muzamiru Mutyaba, and livewire forward Erick Kambale were on target for the Red Eagles while Paul Godfrey’s scored a screamer for Young Africans.

Express started on the front foot and made several unsuccessful attacks but found the breakthrough in the 14th minute when Joel Mutakubwa’s goal kick was perfectly brushed by Kambale into the path of Lwesibawa who made no mistake, rocketing in the opener.

Twenty minutes later the Red Eagles were celebrating again. Martin Kizza made his way into the box off the right wing and passed to Mutyaba who shook off a couple of defenders before placing the ball at the far post to double the lead.

After the break, the Red Eagles kept pressing and it was not long before they found the third goal. Lwesibawa found space on the right to cross to Kambale who nodded home to make it 3-0.

Godfrey scored Yanga’s consolation, a stunner from outside the area.

The win took the Red Eagles to 7 points and through to the semifinals as group leaders. They will take on KMKM SC of Zanzibar for a place in the finals.
