The draws for the 2021 Cecafa Kagame Cup were conducted on Tuesday.

Ugandan champions Express Football Club were drawn in Group C while their compatriots and defending champions are in Group A.

Express who return to the regional tournament for the first time since 2012 were drawn alongside Yanga of Tanzania and Big Bullets from Malawi.

On the other hand, KCCA who will be aiming to defend their crown are pooled alongside KMKM from Zanzibar and Burundi Champions Le Messager Ngozi FC.

Group C has Azam FC of Tanzania, South Sudan’s Altabara FC, and Tusker FC of Kenya.

The tournament will be played from 1st-15th August in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.

KCCA Football Club has completed the signing of Alex Emmanuel Wasswa.

Wasswa joins the Lugogo-based side on a three-year contract until 2024.

The move comes in the aftermath of the box-to-box midfielder’s mutual agreement to part ways with SC Villa and take his place in the new look KCCA under the stewardship of Morley Byekwaso.

Wasswa came to the limelight at Ndejje University before moving to SC Villa two seasons ago.

The midfielder could make his debut for the club at the CECAFA Kagame Cup next month in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.

KCCA will have to negotiate passage through Group A against Le Messanger Ngozi FC from Burundi and Zanzibar’s KMKM.

KCCA Football Club has confirmed that midfielder Steven Sserwadda has completed a move to Major League Soccer club New York Red Bulls.

The Lugogo based club released a statement on Tuesday confirming the departure of the diminutive playmaker who will cross over to the USA.

“We hereby confirm that we have finalised an agreement for the transfer of Steven Sserwadda to New York Red Bulls on an undisclosed permanent transfer,” reads a statement from KCCA FC.

New York Red Bulls expressed their interest in the youngster immediately after the Africa U-20 Cup of Nations in Mauritania where he was part of the Uganda Kobs side that reached the finals albeit lost to Ghana.

Sserwadda is a product of the KCCA Soccer Academy and has been at Lugogo for six years.

The Federation of Uganda Football Associations (Fufa) has announced the re-appointment of Milutin Sredojević as Ugandan Cranes head coach.

The Serbian returns for his second stint after his departure in 2017 after guiding Uganda to the Africa Cup of Nations, its first after nearly four decades.

Micho as he is popularly known has been given the mandate to name the backroom staff he will work with for the next two and a half years.

“FUFA names Michocoach the new Head coach of Uganda Cranes on a three-year renewable contract effective 1st August 2021. The Head coach has a contractual mandate to name his backroom staff. He will address the media on Tuesday 3rd August 2021,” the federation tweeted.

New dates for the CAF Women’s Champions League Qualifiers in the CECAFA Zone have been confirmed.

The Qualifiers were initially scheduled to start on 17th July but were postponed citing the surge in the COVID-19 cases across different countries.

The regional football governing body has now confirmed that the CECAFA Zonal Qualifiers will now take place from 7th -21st August in Nairobi, Kenya.

Following the withdraw of Rwanda champions Scandinavian WFC, only 8 teams are left to compete for the single slot in the final tournament reserved for the zonal champions.

It is not yet clear whether fresh draws will be conducted to divide the 8 teams into two groups of 4 each.

The initial draws had Scandinavian WFC pitted in Group C alongside hosts Vihiga Queens and FAD Club from Djibouti.

Uganda’s representatives Lady Doves, who won the FUFA Super League, were in Group A alongside Tanzania’s Simba Queens and Burundi’s PVP FC.

While Group B had Commercial Bank FC (Ethiopia), Yei Joint Stars FC (South Sudan), and New Generation (Zanzibar).

Uganda Kobs beat the Democratic Republic of Congo to pick their first win at the ongoing CECAFA U-23 Challenge Cup.

Najib Yiga’s goal at the stroke of halftime was the difference as Uganda and DR Congo faced-off for the second time at the tournament.

The two sides had played to a goalless draw in the opening Group A tie nearly a fortnight ago.

The Kobs were later held to a one-all draw by Tanzania to fall short of qualifying for the semifinals.

Uganda will now face Eritrea who beat hosts Ethiopia 3-2 in shootouts in a fifth-place playoff.

Ethiopia will battle DR Congo in a seventh-place playoff.

Sports Club Villa has confirmed the departure of Emmanuel Alex Wasswa.

The box-to-box midfielder joined the Jogoos two seasons ago from Ndejje University and has been one of the best performers for the club during his stay.

“Emmanuel Alex Wasswa leaves the club after a mutual agreement between the club and the player. We wish him all the best in the future,” SC Villa tweeted.

It is reported that a deal has been agreed in principal for the Wasswa to join KCCA Football Club after he passed medicals.

All that awaits now is the Lugogo-based side to unveil their catch a few days after confirming the return of Brian Majwega from URA.

KCCA is also linked with a move for Yasser Mugerwa.

Denis Rukundo has returned to Rwanda and signed with AS Kigali.

It’s reported that he has signed a two-year contract with the club that’s beefing up its squad ahead of the new season.

The roving right-back has spent the last two seasons at Police Football Club which he joined in 2019 from Rwanda giants APR.

In June this year, Rukundo became a full Rwanda international when he featured in a 2-0 win over the Central African Republic in an international friendly. He assisted one of the goals.

At Police, Rukundo featured prominently until late last season when he appeared to lost his starting place to versatile Tonny Kiwalazi at right back.

He has been one of the captains and helped the team finish 6th in the league and also reach the semifinals of the Stanbic Uganda Cup.

Buganda Kingdom Minister of Sports, Leisure and Recreation, Henry Ssekabembe, is optimistic about the staging of the 2021 Masaza Cup.

Speaking through the Masaza Cup publicity office, Ssekabembe said that the Kingdom is doing all they can to stage the tournament.

“I want to assure the Buganda Kingdom that the 2021 Masaza Cup tournament will be held. Plans are underway to lay strategies that will be introduced before the committee of ministers and eventually made public to the general kingdom,” said Ssekabembe.

“We have seen the European championship and Copa America tournament successfully played with fans after vaccination. These countries ensured massive vaccination of their people. We should adapt this as well.

“I urge the government and Parliament to emphasize vaccination and this will help us overcome various lockdowns in the country.”

Last year’s Masaza Cup was delayed due to Covid-19 but was eventually held after the testing of players, officials and other support staff. It was played in a bubble at the FUFA Technical Centre, Njeru between 12th December 2020 and January 2021.

The final was held at the St Mary’s Stadium, Kitende on March 6 this year with record winners Gomba beating rivals Buddu 3-1.

Express Football Club and KCCA Football Club will represent Uganda at the 2021 Cecafa Kagame Cup that will be hosted in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.

Express go to the August 1-15 tournament as Uganda Premier League champions while KCCA are the tournament defending champions having won the last event in 2019.

“FUFA has received communication from CECAFA about the 2021 CECAFA Kagame Cup to be hosted in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. Uganda will be represented by StarTimes Uganda Premier League champions Express FC and Kagame Cup holders KCCA FC,” read a statement from the local football governing body.

The tournament will be played by 8 clubs from across the region. These are; Atlabara Juba (South Sudan), Yanga (Tanzania), Azam (Tanzania), Le Messager Ngozi (Burundi), APR (Rwanda), Tusker (Kenya), KCCA (Uganda), and Express (Uganda).

Draws for the tournament will be conducted on Tuesday, 27th July 2021. There will be two groups of four clubs each with the top two of each pool advancing to the semifinals.
