Vipers has announced Fred Muhumuza as the latest addition to their coaching set-up.

The development was made via Vipers’ website on Sunday, April 7, 2024.

“Vipers Sports Club have appointed tactician Fred Muhumuza to the technical team as an assistant coach,” the statement partly reads.

According to the website, Muhumuza joins the Kitende-based side as an assistant coach to bolster the coaching staff as the team battles to defend their double.

The gaffer will return to the dugout after his last coaching assignment at URA FC before being replaced by Uganda Cranes legend David Obua.

He holds a CAF B Coaching Licence having started his managerial work at St Leo’s Kyegobe before handling Tooro Province in the FUFA Drum.

During his playing time, Muhumuza played for record league champions SC Villa as well as now-defunct Victors FC.

Vipers lie third on the log with 40 points and they will be returning to action on Tuesday, April 9, 2024, as they take on SC Villa.

Express regained their winning touch with a narrow 1-0 victory against URA in the Uganda Premier League at Muteesa II Stadium, Wankulukuku on Saturday.

In the post-match interview, Express goalkeeper Yunus Abubaker revealed that the victory was attained due to a spirited fight from the boys.

“I am so happy for the victory against URA. We had lost three games earlier but as players we put together our effort and fought for a victory,” he said.

“It’s been a team effort and am glad we won the game. Express is a big team so we can not lose more than three games in a row. I am also glad that I managed to be given the man of the match award,” he added.

“The improvement in the team has been a result of hard work and consistency. Though I appreciate the coach for trusting me and giving me a chance to represent the mighty club.”

The custodian walked into the starting line up replacing Abdul Kimera who staged a poor show in the previous game as they lost to Maroons 2-0.

With a thrilling performance against URA, Yunus made for himself a case proving that he has what it takes to stand in between the sticks for Express in the coming games.

Express had earlier lost three games in a row but that was put to an end with a narrow 1-0 win against URA in the Uganda Premier League on Saturday.

In the game played at Muteesa II Stadium, Express was inspired by Isaac Wagoina to secure maximum points in the duel against the Tax Collectors.

Express gaffer Baker Mbowa says he hopes they can build from that victory and win many more games ahead starting with the next duel.

“I am glad that we won the match (against URA) but hopefully I know we shall improve,” Mbowa said.

“We have to do better in the coming games so we look forward to taking on BUL in our next game. I know the boys will be ready and we shall put up a great fight,” he added.

“In that game, we shall even have a larger squad because many of the players in the sick bay will have recovered.”

Express lies eighth on the log with 32 points in 23 games. They will return to action on Saturday, April 20 last they take on BUL at the FUFA Technical Center, Njeru.

Express secured a narrow 1-0 victory against URA in the Uganda Premier League at Muteesa II Stadium, Wankulukuku on Saturday.

Isaac Wagoina was on target as the Red Eagles ended the three-game winless streak. This was also Baker Mbowa’s first victory in four games as the head coach.

Mbowa made a big change by introducing Abubaker Yunus in the place of Abdul Kimera who displayed a very poor show in the previous game against Maroons.

Wagoina fired the hosts ahead in the 43rd minute after converting Marvin Oshaba’s delivery.

The Tax collectors greatly improved in the second half but were not lethal enough in front of the goal.

In the 62nd minute, Moses Aliro attempted from a distance but the custodian Abubaker made a timely touch to keep the ball out.

With eight minutes to play, Eddy Ssebandeke’s powerful shot bounced off the frame but the rebound was fully gripped by URA’s custodian.

In the 85th minute, Abubaker made a spectacular save to deny James Begisa’s long-range effort as the visitors came so close.

The victory lifts Express into eighth position with 32 points while URA lies ninth with 31 points in 23 games.

BUL registered a well-deserved 3-0 victory against Wakiso Giants in the Uganda Premier League at FUFA Technical Centre, Njeru on Saturday.

The victory came in handy putting an end to a five-game winless run for the oil manufacturers.

Jeromy Kirya put the hosts ahead in the 25th minute and later held on till the break with their narrow lead.

Alex Kitata doubled BUL’s lead ten minutes into the second stanza. This goal also ended the forward’s drought as he stretched his tally to nine.

Kitata concluded his brace in the 73rd minute after tapping the ball into an empty net as Wakiso Giants’ backline looked on.

The victory lifted BUL back to the second position with 43 points, one behind log leaders Kitara after 23 games.

Wakiso Giants lie 12th on the log with 26 points, eight clear of the red zone.

Vipers secured a narrow 2-1 victory against UPDF in the Uganda Premier League at St Mary’s Stadium, Kitende on Friday.

It was a breathtaking victory for Vipers since they had gone three games without a win in their yard.

Vipers nearly took an early lead but Frank Katongole and Ashraf Mandela’s long strikes were palmed away by Anyama.

Allan Okello gave the hosts the lead in the 11th minute with a sublime finish that curled inside the back post after beating UPDF custodian Anyama.

Five minutes later, Katongole put to waste a glorious chance as he failed to tap the ball into an empty net after Okello had earlier done the dirty work.

Erick Kenzo Kambale came close to doubling matters but instead nodded wide Mandela’s well-weighed delivery in front of goal.

Vipers’ custodian Alfred Mudekereza was called to action as he rushed off the line to block Shugai Kaliisa’s low effort in the 43rd minute.

The second stanza started on a slow note, unlike the first half where the hosts were badly looking for an early lead.

Kambale finally doubled the hosts’ lead ten minutes into the second half with a ground-powerful effort that slid below Anyama on the near post.

In the 72nd minute, the visitors pulled back one through Samson Kasozi who forced Christopher Tebandeke’s corner kick into the back of the net.

The victory guided Vipers into the second position on the log with 41 points, three behind leaders Kitara who have played two games more.

UPDF is stuck at the bottom of the log with 16 points in 22 games.

KCCA secured a 2-1 victory against Gaddafi in the Uganda Premier League at the Gaddafi Arena on Friday evening.

It was a first-half blitz as all action happened in the opening forty-five minutes and nothing much happened in the second stanza of the game.

The Kasasiro Boys showed character on the day as they rallied from a goal down to secure maximum points away from home.

Rashid Mpata gave Gaddafi the lead early in the fifth minute after guiding the ball past Anthony Emojong into the back of the net.

At the half-hour mark, Etienne Katenga restored parity for the visitors with a fine finish. The forward was also on the scoresheet in the first leg between these two sides.

Shaban Muhammad fired the visitors ahead five minutes later after capitalising on Katenga’s spectacular delivery as Gaddafi’s backline looked on.

In the 41st minute, Emojong pulled off a stunning save to deny Hassan Musana as KCCA maintained their lead going into the break.

Both teams made changes but nothing much changed on the day as neither side found the back of the net.

KCCA registered their fourth straight league victory while on the other hand, Gaddafi suffered their third loss on the bounce.

The victory sent KCCA to the sixth position with 35 points while Gaddafi is 14th with 18 points in 22 games.

KCCA returns to action on Thursday, April 18 as they host Mbarara City while Gaddafi will take on UPDF two days earlier.

Vipers will be eager to complete a double against UPDF in the Uganda Premier League at St Mary’s Stadium, Kitende on Friday.

Vipers have been hot and cold thus struggling to impress at their home which was not the case in the previous campaigns.

However, the 2-0 victory against URA will pump some positivity and enthusiasm in the boys who will be now seeking to maintain winning ways.

During the pre-match conference, Vipers assistant head coach Richard Wasswa revealed that he expects a tough game against UPDF.

“It will not be an easy game since every team is fighting for a better position on the table of the league,” he stated.

“We know it’s going to be a very big fight between the two teams because UPDF is an experienced team with good players and coaches. So we are ready for the fight,” he added.

“We shall come and see that we capitalise on the home advantage and try and see that we get the desired points. We need to work as a team so that we achieve the desired mark.”

It still remains a point of doubt whether Vipers head coach Livingstone Mbabazi will be in the dugout after missing the previous game against URA.

For starters, UPDF have greatly improved securing two victories in two games as they aim to fly out of the red zone.

With Kitara and SC Villa having dropped points, Vipers have a chance to reduce the gap between them the teams ahead on the log.

KCCA head coach Abdallah Mubiru expects a tough challenge against Gaddafi as the two sides lock horns at Gaddafi Arena on Friday.

After losing 6-1 in the first leg, Mubiru believes Gaddafi will come into this encounter so desperate to pick something positive from the game.

During the pre-match conference, Mubiru asserted that since the season is nearing an end, different teams are working hard to achieve different objectives.

“We are in the final bend of the season with teams chasing different objectives,” Mubiru stated.

“It’s going to be a [more] complicated game than one we had in the first round because then, they were safe but at the moment, they are threatened by relegation,” he added.

“We have prepared players for this and so we have to work hard so that we register the win away from home.”

The Kasasiro Boys will seek to keep the thrilling form that has seen them win three consecutive games in the league including beating NEC and rivals Vipers.

On the other side, Gaddafi are in the mini-crisis losing three consecutive goals and conceding nine goals in the last two games.

NEC Football Club secured a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Kitara Football Club in the Uganda Premier League encounter played at MTN Omondi Stadium, Lugogo on Thursday evening.

In a game played under the floodlights, both sides created several chances but only one half chance was converted.

Cromwell Rwothomio came so close with a volley in the third minute but Chrispas Kusiima made a timely save to deny the hosts.

Jasper Aheebwa who was the last man tripped Rashid Okocha but walked away with a yellow card for an offence that could have reduced Kitara to ten men.

Taban nearly guided the ball into his net as he tried to clear Jude Ssemugabi’s delivery but the effort went narrowly wide of the frame.

In the first stanza, the hosts enjoyed more possession but the visitors were so disciplined sucking in all the pressure.

Cromwell Rwothomio’s header bounced off Dudu Ramathan before it went into his net as the hosts were placed into a driving seat.

With two minutes to play, George Senkaaba found the back of the net but the assistant referee Samuel Mbabali flagged it offside.

The victory sends NEC into the fourth position with 40 points while Kitara remains on top of the log with 44 points from 23 games.
