FUFA Big League | Results

Young Elephants pulled off a stunning comeback as they held Police to a 3-3 stalemate in the FUFA Big League at Anaka Primary School ground, Nwoya on Sunday.

At one moment in the game, Police led 3-1 and it all looked like the Cops had sealed the game but the hosts had a different thought as they fought till the last minute.

Young Elephants took an early lead in the ninth minute before Steven Kabuye levelled matters in the 17th minute.

Three minutes later, Raymond Onyai found the back of the net as he put the visitors ahead.

In the 23rd minute, the home crowd was unruly as they protested shortly after their equaliser was cancelled.

Two minutes into the second half Brian Obedi extended Police’s lead adding salt in the host’s wounds.

In the 54th minute, the hosts scored the second goal on the day as the home crowd rallied behind their boys.

With five minutes to play, the host found the priceless equaliser as the two sides walked away with a point each.

Police is still on top of the log with 37 points while Young Elephants are placed 14th with 11 points.

African Games 2023 – Semi-finals

Uganda Hippos will face the Congo Republic in the semifinals of the ongoing African Games 2023.

The Hippos are on a perfect run having won three games in as many group encounters in the games happening in Ghana.

To reach the last four, Uganda sealed the group business with a narrow 1-0 victory against South Sudan thus securing a top spot in Group B.

In this encounter, the Hippos gaffer Morley Byekwaso chose to flip in a few chances giving the bench players an opportunity.

Apollo Kagogwe scored the lonely goal in the tight encounter where Uganda created several chances though you must credit the organisation of South Sudan.

The right back’s powerful strike found the back of the net as Uganda took the lead in the 74th minute of the game.

Uganda will now embark on the medal chase as they play Congo in the semifinals.

A win in that game simply means that the Hippos will earn the ticket to the finals where they are guaranteed either silver or gold.

Uganda Premier League | Results

KCCA secured a 1-0 victory against Vipers in the Uganda Premier League encounter played at St Mary’s Stadium, Kitende on Friday.

Mustafa Kizza’s late goal was the difference between the two sides as the Kasasiro Boys registered maximum points on the day.

It was a very close contest from the first minute until the last minute of the game as both sides shared a fair share of possession.

Vipers’ title chase faced yet another stall after falling to rivals in front of a fully packed stadium.

The hosts suffered a big blow after Yunus Sentamu was stretched off the field before he was replaced by Mohamed Salem Ekbad in the 20th minute.

Five minutes later, Fazil Tumwine got Vipers’ first clear chance but only nodded the ball straight into Anthony Emojong’s gloves.

With five minutes left to conclude the first stanza, Emojong made a full stretch to palm away Allan Okello’s flick for a corner kick.

In the 57th minute, Filbert Obenchan made a goal-line clearance denying Fazil Tumwine who had nicked the ball beyond Emojong.

In added time the ball bounced off Siraje Sentamu’s hand and the centre referee awarded the visitors a penalty.

Kizza stepped up and converted from the spot sending Komakech the wrong way.

Vipers are fifth on the log with 35 points in 19 games while KCCA are eighth with 29 points after playing a game more.

University Football League – Semifinals fixture  

Uganda Christian University (UCU) Cardinals are set to lock horns with Makerere University Business School in the semifinals of the ongoing 2023-24 University Football League campaign.

The two teams met in the last seasons in the classification game and UCU came out victorious taking home bronze while MUBS finished fourth.

The development has been confirmed during the ceremony where the semi-final draws were held today Friday, March 15, 2023.

Shortly after the draws, UCU Cardinals captain Geoffrey Gaganga revealed that MUBS would be a great challenge however their target remains taking the trophy.

“I am glad that we made it to the semifinals of the league. I thank everyone who has been part of our journey. Having confirmed that we shall play MUBS in the next game, I expect a good game,” he said.

“I do not know much about MUBS but I am sure if a team comes this far then they are a good team. We have been preparing to play any side and so we are ready for the challenge ahead,” he added.

“Our target remains the same since the first day. We want to win the trophy and we shall keep fighting to see that we achieve that. However, winning requires a lot and we shall keep trying to do the right things.”

To reach this stage, the Cardinals eliminated Makarere University Enzymes after turning around a 2-1 first-leg defeat facing MUBS setting up yet another exciting game.

On the other hand, MUBS captain Derrick Otuke revealed that his teammates are ready and they will have to do all it takes to upset a good time such as UCU.

“My camp is ready. For one to reach this level you cannot fear any team but rather respect one another. UCU is a good side and it will not be easy but we shall do all it takes to win. We shall come out to compete and the best team will win,” he stated.

The game between the two sides will take place on Tuesday, March 19 at Nakawa before St Lawrence University hosts Nkumba University later on Thursday.

All is set for the final of the 2023 FUFA Drum at the MTN Omondi Stadium in Lugogo between Busoga and Lango Provinces.

The Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) who organise the tournament together with sponsors MTN Uganda and other partners revealed plans ahead of the anticipated final scheduled for Saturday, 23rd March.

According to Rogers Byamukama, the chairman of the organising committee, six thousand tickets will be on sale. On the total tickets, 1500 tickets are reserved for each province, and the remaining 3000 will strictly be sold via MTN MoMo Pay, with no tickets to sold at the gates on matchday.

“Three thousand tickets at Ugx 20,000 each have been earmarked for the province fans each at bulk purchase and the remaining three thousand are to be sold at UGX 25,000/= each via Momo Pay. Each province having one thousand five hundred tickets. All these tickets are to be sold starting from Monday, 18th March 2024,” Byamukana said.

The match will kick off at 4:00 PM.

Uganda Premier League – Fixture

KCCA lock horns with rivals Vipers at St Mary’s Stadium, Kitende in a highly anticipated Uganda Premier League encounter on Friday.

In the reverse fixture, KCCA secured a well-deserved 3-1 victory in the exciting game which was played in front of a huge crowd at MTN Omondi Stadium, Lugogo.

In the pre-match conference held at Lugogo today, Mubiru revealed that the team has prepared well and is very prepared to take on Vipers in their yard.

“It’s another important game to us as a club and I know what the fans expect tomorrow however I would like to share that the team has prepared well and the players are ready to give the best,” he stated.

“As a club, we have a target of improving after each and every game. We want to improve in the way we manage the game and how we express ourselves,” he added.

KCCA will face a big slow since they will miss the services of their lead striker Muhammad Shaban however, the gaffer underlined that the team has able replacements.

“Yes we are going to miss Shaban (Muhammad) but we shall not morn or lament over that. We have able replacements and am sure whoever is given the chance will represent the team accordingly.

“We are now looking at what lies ahead, whatever happened is behind because we are ready to break whatever happened and outcompete the opponent in their own park.”

At the moment, Vipers are fourth on the log with 35 points in 18 games while KCCA are placed 10th with 26 points having played a game more.

Uganda Premier League | Results

Kitara continued with its impressive home form as they secured a well-deserved 3-0 victory against 10-man URA in the Uganda Premier League at Masindi Municipality Stadium on Thursday.

This becomes the 13th victory of the campaign where they have only lost four games and shared spoils on as many occasions.

Two minutes into the game, URA had a chance to take the lead through Norman Namanya who was set up by James Begisa but his touch went wide of the frame.

Denis Omedi placed the hosts in the lead after four minutes with a simple touch into an empty net. Omedi stretched his goal-scoring tally to 11 after being set up by Kabon Living.

In the 19th minute, Lubwama nearly levelled matters as he looked for the top right corner but the effort went narrowly wide. This was after Namanya was fouled by Ramathan Dudu at the edge of the box.

With eight minutes to play in the first period, Jude Ssemugabi doubled the Royals’ lead with a header off Paul Mucureezi’s darling corner kick.

URA had yet another chance to grab a consolation in the 41st minute but Begisa failed to place the ball on the target after making a great turn in the area. 

At the start of the second stanza, David Obua introduced Joseph Ssemujju, Ivan Ahimbisibwe and goalkeeper James Alitho for Laban Tibiita, Vianne Ssekajugo and Omedwa.

In the 56th minute, second-half substitute Ahimbisibwe was sent off the field of play after being shown a straight card due to an Elbow onto Paddy Muhumuza’s face.

In added time, Kabon put the icing on the cake with a chip past custodian Alitho as the hosts got the third goal on the day.

The victory glues Kitara on top of the log with 43 points while URA is seventh with 31 points after playing 21 games in the ongoing campaign.

Uganda Premier League – Results

NEC FC registered a 2-1 victory against Maroons in the Uganda Premier League at MTN Omondi Stadium Lugoogo on Wednesday evening.

In a game that was played under floodlights, NEC completed a double against the Prison Wardens in the ongoing campaign.

Last year, NEC secured a narrow 1-0 victory against the Maroons thanks to Allan Mugalu’s lonely strike before the 2-1 win in the second leg.

Joseph Dhata and Mugalu were on target for NEC as Isaac Mpagi pulled back one for Maroons in the close-ended game.

A minute to half an hour mark, Cromwell was tripped in the dangerous area before Dhata stepped up to convert from the 12-yard mark.

Ten minutes later, Mugalu doubled the hosts’ lead with an easy tap-in after shielding Jacob Okao to connect with Brian Kayanja’s delivery.

With 10 minutes to conclude the game, Marvin Kavuma nearly extended NEC’s lead with a long powerful from outside the box.

Mpagi grabbed a consolation for the visitors in the 88th minute as NEC’s backline lost concentration at the moment of the game.

The victory takes NEC to 37 points in the third position while Maroons are sixth with six points less.

In the other game played at Kakyeka Stadium, Mbarara City secured a 5-0 victory against Gaddafi in their best performance of the season.

The huge victory lifts Mbarara City to the ninth position with 27 points while Gaddafi is 13th with only 18 points.

Vipers SC midfielder Abdu Karim Watambala has been summoned to join the Uganda Cranes after a late call.

Watambala will be part of the Cranes fold that will play against Comoros and Ghana in the upcoming international friendly games.

The two friendly games will be played on Friday, March 22 and Tuesday, March 26 in Morocco during the FIFA International window.

Watambala comes into the squad as a direct replacement for Bobosi Byaruhanga who has been ruled out for the two games due to injury.

Byaruhanga becomes the fourth player to be erased from the team sheet due to injuries. First, Khalid Aucho and Aziz Kayondo were not even named due to injuries.

The duo was followed by Allan Kyambade who will also miss the upcoming games due to an ankle injury that he picked during a recent outing.

The upcoming games will give the squad a good test as they prepare for the AFCON 2025 qualifiers and FIFA World Cup 2026 qualifiers.

Wakiso Giants edged Express Football Club in a 3-2 victory in the Uganda Premier League at Muteesa II Stadium in Wankulukuku on Wednesday evening.

It was a great response by the Purple Sharks who returned to winning ways after a humiliating 4-0 loss to Vipers at St Mary’s Stadium, Kitende over the weekend.

Kenneth Kimera placed the visitors in the driving seat with a simple finish in the 10th minute after being set up by Sharif Kimbowa in a well-crafted team attack.

Samson Andrew Kigozi doubled Wakiso Giants’ lead with yet another easy effort steps away from goal in the 30th minute. Kigozi connected with Hassan Ssenyonjo’s delivery before he guided the ball through a forest of Express legs.

Three minutes later, Kimbowa nodded home magnificently as he beat his marker to power before putting a strong touch to Kimera’s chilly cross.

In the 35th minute, Abubaker Mbowa made a triple change as he introduced Kevin Ssekimbega, Eddy Ssebandeke and Yassar Mugerwa for Andrew Kaggwa, Marvin Oshaba and Musa Ssali.

Before the first half ended, Express pulled back one through Joshua Musoke who scored from a follow-up after Isaac Wagoina’s earlier effort was blocked.

Two minutes into the second half, Wagoina attempted one from a long-range but his powerful effort failed to get on target.

Four minutes past the hour mark, Isma Kawawulo stepped up for a freekick in a promising area but his attempt went way over the bar.

With four minutes to play, Mugerwa found himself in the right place at the perfect time before he tapped home into an empty after Joseph Lubega blocked the earlier effort.

The victory takes Wakiso Giants to the 12th position with 23 points while Express sit eighth on the log with 29 points after playing 21 games in the ongoing campaign.

Next on the menu, Wakiso Giants will be hosting NEC on Friday, March 29 while Express will be away from home to Maroons a day earlier.
