CECAFA U-15 Championship | Fixture

The CECAFA U-15 gets underway today and the defending champions Uganda Rhinos will kickstart the tournament against Djibouti.

The two sides are set to lock horns in a game that will be played at FUFA Technical Centre, Njeru. The tournament is scheduled for November 4 to 18 and will run for at least two weeks.

Ahead of the tournament kick-off, Uganda Rhinos gaffer Hamza Lutalo has expressed readiness.

“We have prepared very well for the championship and I believe the players will be able to put up a good performance for us to retain the trophy,” Lutalo stated.

“We are developing talent and at the same time want to perform to the best with the young boys. The entire team is in good shape and ready for the tournament,” he added.

Under the tutelage of Jackson Magera, Uganda lifted the maiden U-15 title in the tournament hosted by Eritrea.

The tournament has attracted eight countries namely, Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Somalia, Ethiopia, South Sudan, Djibouti, and Zanzibar.

The tournament is a nursery bed for young talents who are sharpened ahead of bigger assignments while donning the national colours.

Marcus Aka and Junior Zaake were on target as Kataka FC registered a 2-1 victory in the FUFA Big League clash on Thursday evening.

In a game played at Mbale Stadium, Kataka registered its third victory at home in as many games played at the fortress.

The Mbale-based side has so far played six games, drawing once, losing twice and winning thrice.

The hosts had a perfect to the game after scoring in the first minute. Aka gave Kataka the lead after nodding home Stephen Namaisi’s long throw-in.

Zaake extended the host’s lead after tapping home steps away from the goal line. Kigezi HomeBoyz custodian James Tukei fumbled with Micheal Olinga’s powerful effort and Zaake thankfully took away the blessing.

Derrick Mudali decided to half the deficit as the visitors pulled one back thus giving the game life once again.

The second half had less action as the ball was kept in the middle park for most of the time.

Uganda Cranes head coach Paul Put Joseph has called upon Ugandans to back him up and also give him time to turn around things.

While speaking at a press conference after his unveiling at FUFA Headquarters, the 67-year-old called up all Ugandans to come together and believe in the national team once again.

“Please give me time, give me the confidence and you will see a different national team,” Paul Put stated before adding; “It is a great pleasure to be named the head coach of the Uganda Cranes and I can assure you, the decision will not be regretted.”

“I will work on the individual quality of this team, but to win even with the talents that are available is necessary. So, the group is a priority, but we must produce results.

“I am very motivated now and I am ready to write a beautiful story with the Uganda Cranes. I am a very ambitious person and when I sign for a country, I do so to bring results.

“We shall do everything possible to see that we attain the set targets. It is not going to be easy but with the support of all Ugandans we are going to achieve success.”

The Belgian gaffer replaces Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredejovic and will be deputised by Sam Ssimbwa.

The Uganda Cranes return to action on November 17th and 21st as they face Guinèa and Somalia respectively in the World Cup Qualifiers.

Uganda Cranes head coach Paul Put Joseph has named Sam Ssimbwa Bamweyana as his assistant coach.

FUFA has duly accepted the appointment and Ssimbwa will take up the role to complete Paul Put’s backroom staff.

The other Ugandan officials to join the technical bench will be confirmed in the coming days.

According to FUFA Communications Director Ahmed Hussein, Ssimbwa is expected to start work with immediate effect.

“FUFA has duly accepted the appointment of Sam Ssimbwa by Uganda Cranes Head Coach and he will start serving in his new role with immediate effect,” he confirmed.

The new technical team will get to work 15 days after its appointment.

Uganda Cranes will be in action during FIFA World Cup Qualifiers with matches against Guinea and Somalia on 17th and 21st November 2023 respectively.

Uganda Premier League side URA Football Club has finally named Uganda Cranes legend David Obua as their head coach.

The development was revealed to the public on Thursday, November 2 via the club’s official social media platforms.

“We are delighted to announce the appointment of David Obua as new head coach on a one-year employment contract,” the statement partly read.

Obua takes the mantle from Fred Muhumuza who emerged in the role on an interim basis.

Muhumuza took over office after Sam Timbe’s sudden passing away in August this year.

In the six games played this season, URA FC has won twice, drawn thrice and lost once in their previous outing.

After the technical bench shake-up, Muhumuza will drop in the hierarchy thus becoming the second assistant coach.

The other members of the coaching staff are Peter Byaruhanga Adyeri (1st assistant coach), Robert Mukada (3rd assistant coach), Bryon Okuba (strength and conditioning coach) and Ilic Milos (fitness coach).

The Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) has confirmed the appointment of Belgian gaffer Paul Put as the new Uganda Cranes head coach.

Paul Put was awarded a two-year employment contract as unveiled during a press conference at FUFA House, Mengo on Thursday, November 2.

The 67-year-old gaffer replaces Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredojevic who was relieved from the role in September this year.

He has vast knowledge of football having worked on the African continent for quite a while.

He has previously been the head at the Algerian side USM Alger and also countries like Kenya, Burkina Faso, Gambia, Guinea and Congo.

His biggest achievement saw him guide Burkina Faso to the 2013 AFCON finals which they painfully lost to Nigeria.

Uganda Cranes will be in action chasing a World Cup ticket. They will face Guinea and Somalia on November 17 and 21 and all games are set to be played away from home.

Uganda Premier League | Results 

Gaddafi FC registered a 3-0 victory against NEC FC in the Uganda Premier League at MTN Omondi Lugogo on Wednesday.

Amos Kirya led the party scoring twice and Ronald Bithum scored twice to give the Jinja-based side the second victory of the season.

David Mutono’s troops came into this game after registering mixed results in previous games.

Kirya gave Gaddafi the lead as early as the seventh minute after guiding the ball home into an empty net.

Twenty-six minutes later, Bithum doubled the visitors’ lead and NEC’s custodian Samson Kirya guided the ball into his net thanks to the midfielder’s effort.

The hosts introduced Ivan Kamoga to replace veteran forward Geoffrey Sserunkuma in the 34th minute.

The home side tried to respond through veteran their forwards but Gaddafi’s backline thought otherwise.

At half an hour mark, Kirya completed his brace after his well-weighed effort left the host’s custodian helpless.

The victory sends Gaddafi to the 10th position on the log with six points while NEC FC are fourth with 12 points.

Uganda Premier League | Results 

UPDF FC finally registered their first victory of the ongoing season after beating Busoga United 2-0 in the Uganda Premier League.

In a game played at FUFA Technical Centre – Njeru, Christopher Tebandeke and Farid Rashid scored two goals as UPDF finally got off the mark.

Tebandeke handed the visitors the lead twelve minutes into the game to silence the home crowd right away.

Like the norm is, Busoga United enjoyed a huge percentage of possession but the final product was so much lacking.

With twelve minutes left on the clock, Farid put the icing on the get to lift the souls of the Army side.

UPDF are now 12th with five points (a win and two draws) while Busoga United are ninth with seven points.

Busoga United continue to suffer with unpleasant results after having a doubtful preseason program.

Next on the menu, Busoga United will travel to Kavumba Recreational Grounds while UPDF FC will have an assignment to try and attempt to end BUL’s perfect run.

Maroons FC put an end to Kitara’s perfect run after a 1-0 victory in the Uganda Premier League at Masindi Stadium on Wednesday.

Fred Amaku was on target as Maroons picked maximum points away from home.

It was a close but entertaining game that needed to be split by just one moment.

David Bayiga was lucky to complete the game after surviving a second booking. The lanky defender fouled Brian Aheebwa through a high tackle but the referee was so kind to look away.

Paul Mucureezi had a chance to put the hosts upfront but his freekick could not go past Maroons strong wall with six minutes left to play the first half.

Amaku finally put the visitors ahead in the 59th minute. The forward beat his marker Donato Okello before guiding a powerful effort past Kitara’s custodian Crispus Kusiima.

Kitara were blessed with a chance to level matters after David Ndihabwe’s high boot got to Jude Ssemugabi in the dangerous area and referee Vincent Kavuma awarded the home side a penalty. Denis Omedi stepped up for the challenge but Hannington Ssenwalunyo thwarted the powerful effort in the 78th minute.

Kabon Living was denied by the woodwork after his free kick went past the wall. The home side through all bodies upfront but could not go past Maroons strong backline.

The victory takes the Prison Wardens to 11 points after six games while Kitara FC are second with 15 points.

Vipers SC whitewashed Wakiso Giants in a 3-0 victory in Uganda Premier League at St Mary’s Stadium, Kitende on Tuesday evening.

The game that was played under floodlights lived up to the expectations as the two sides staged a thrilling game.

Eric Kambale had a chance to put Vipers ahead as early as the eighth minute but his header off Ashraf Mandela’s delivery went wide.

Five minutes later, Karim Watambala fired home to open the party at Kitende. Yunus Sentamu set up the youngster whose effort found the top corner of the net.

From that point, the hosts got full charge of the game as Abdul Lumala pulled the strings up front.

Wakiso Giants had a chance to restore parity, but Jack Komakech blocked Kenneth Kimera but Mandela cleared the deflection off the line.

With five minutes to play in the first half, Leonard Neiva made the first change introducing Rogers Torach in the place of injured Murushid Juuko.

Komakech warmed his palms thwarting Tom Matsiko’s free-kick from a powerful long-range effort.

After putting to waste a number of chances, Sentamu doubled the hosts’ lead through a perfect belter.

The most beautiful moment of the game came in the 66th minute as Sentamu’s 40-yard effort beat Wakiso Giants’ custodian Bashir Ssekagya who had moved steps away from the goal line.

At the stroke of full time, Watambala sealed the perfect victory for the hosts after placing Semtamu’s pass at the far post and the home crowd roared in high gears of confidence.

The victory sends Vipers to the third position with 14 points gathered from six games while Wakiso Giants are 11th with four points.
