Uganda Premier League | Fixture
Kitara hosts NEC in the Uganda Premier League at Royal Park, Butema, in Hoima, on Thursday, September 19, 2024.
The Royals come into the game, having secured a well-deserved 3-0 victory against League newbies Kitara on matchday one.
Kitara captain Maxwell Owachigiu believes the victory on matchday one will be an igniting switch to spark off their bright journey.
“We were lucky to win the first game away to Lugazi, and that is motivational enough to give us belief and win against NEC side,” Owachigiu stated.
“The game against NEC provides a great state to test how ready we are. We need to work so hard as players to see that we help the club to achieve its dreams,” he added.
On the other hand, forward Paul Mucureezi will be facing his former paymasters after crossing to NEC.
In a pre-match conference, Mucureezi revealed that meeting his former side provides extra motivation to prove his worth.
“For me, facing my former side is an extra motivation,” he shared to the club media.
The goal is always to show what I am still capable of offering, but the most important thing is to help the team get a good result,” he added.
In the previous campaign, neither side won the league game played at home before Kitara secured a 1-0 in the Uganda Cup.
As the transfer window comes to an end, Uganda Premier League side Kitara has completed the signing of Umar Lutalo.
The Royals have agreed terms with former SC Villa midfielder on a one-year employment contract.
Lutalo was instrumental in the journey as SC Villa clinched the 17th League title to end the 20-year trophy drought.
Shortly after the campaign, he announced his departure as reports linked him to a transfer to Europe.
However, it was unfortunate that his trials hit a dead end as he travelled back to the country.
Lutalo’s arrival follows the signing of players like Ronald Otti, Marvin Nyanzi, Moses Sseruyidde, Denis Mande, Douglas Oyirwoth, Fred Amaku among others.
Kitara registered a well-deserved 3-1 victory against Lugazi and will take on NEC in the second game of the campaign.
Former KCCA forward Simon Tshisungu Kakonde has found solace in Ivory Coast as he gets ready to return to action.
In the ongoing transfer window, Kakonde has joined Ivorian League One side ASEC Mimosas.
The striker’s arrival to his new side comes at a perfect time as the league is yet to kick off, though Kakonde played over the weekend in the CAF Confederation Cup.
The lanky forward came on in the 78th minute as ASEC lost 2-1 to Togo’s ASC Kara in the second leg of the preliminary round.
ASEC Mimosas will kick off the league on Friday. September 20 against Korhogo.
Unceremonious departure from KCCA
Kakonde joined KCCA in 2022 on a two-year deal, but his stay at MTN Omondi Stadium was brought to an end unceremoniously.
In May 2023, Kakonde was given an eight-game ban that kicked off his troubles on the local scene.
The ban came at a time when the league was left with four games so it was pushed to the next campaign.
At the start of the 2023-24 campaign, he was part of the pre-season plans before suddenly going AWOL.

Latest league entrants Lugazi Football Club are set to face to Kitara in their maiden Uganda Premier League encounter at Lugazi Stadium, Najjembe on Saturday.
This will be a worth test for Lugazi FC as they test their tools, quality and resilience to see if they fit the requirements of top tier football.
Lugazi head coach Sadiq Ssempigi is aware of the threat ahead and he expects a tough test from the Royals.
“Kitara is a very good team and a very tough challenger. They have had very good games in the pre-season, I watched most of their games in the FUFA Super 8 and the Confederation Cup,” the gaffer told the club media.
“They are very ambitious, play well and they have fared well in the market – they really have good players who think will give us a very tough challenge,” he added.
“But I want to accept that we are at home and we know the kind of opponent we are going to face. We are going to work hard to make sure we answer most of the questions that will be presented.”
Kitara’s red hot forward line which has Denis Omedi and Jude Ssemugabi will face an experienced backline that is expected to have Bashir Asiku and Richard Ayiko.
In the previous campaign, Kitara finished fourth on the log before clinching the Uganda Cup trophy, with that at hand the Royals will push for more accolades.
