Five minutes later, Haruna Lukwago levelled matters thanks to Ettiene Katenga’s brilliant delivery.

Tah Barni Kelvin’s lonely strike guided NEC past BUL in the 1-0 victory in the Uganda Premier League at MTN Omondi Stadium, Lugogo on Wednesday.
BUL put to waste a glorious chance of ascending back to the log summit as they lost to league newbies.
As NEC fans rejoice, BUL’s faithful will be disappointed with how Tom Ikara brought back a loose ball in play only for his side to be punished.
It was a cagey game as both sides struggled to find rhythm in the game not until Tah Bani guided the ball into an empty net.
The victory dragged NEC back to the title talk with 43 points in the fourth position, four beyond log leaders Kitara.
Next on the menu, BUL will host Vipers at Namboole Stadium on Wednesday, May 1 as NEC will visit Express on Tuesday.

Kitara secured a 2-1 victory against Express in the Uganda Premier League encounter at Muteesa II Stadium, Wankulukuku on Wednesday.
The victory guided the Royals to a double since they beat Express 1-0 in the first leg which happened at Masindi Municipal Stadium.
Living Kabon’s corner kick went directly into the back of the net as Kitara secured maximum points on the day.
Denis Omedi gave the visitors a lead early in the 10th minute after being set up by Frank Tumwesigywe in a swift team counterattack.
Omedi came close twice but was not lethal enough to bury Kabon and Jude Ssemugabi’s well-weighted deliveries.
Before the break, Isaac Wagoina was tripped in the area by Paddy Muhumuza before he later stood up to convert from the spot.
Kabon scored the winner directly from a corner kick deep in added time which was wildly celebrated.
Kitara ascended back on the log summit with 47 points while Express lay ninth on the log with 32 points.
Next on the menu, Kitara will host Mbarara on Tuesday, April 30 while Express host NEC on the same day.
After nearly four years, football is set to return to Mandela National Stadium in Namboole.
The development comes after the Federation of Uganda Football Association (FUFA) announced that the refurbished stadium will host two Uganda Premier League matches on 1st May.
Rogers Byamukama, a FUFA Executive Committee member, told the press on Wednesday at FUFA Complex that the two UPL encounters will be used as the soft testing of the stadium as directed by CAF before granting the greenlight to host international games again.
“As we are all aware, there has been renovation works going on at Namboole and we are in the final stages of having the stadium re-opened. But one of the conditions CAF set was to have test matches and see if the venue is ready,” Byamukama said.
“FUFA and the Uganda Premier League Secretariat sat together and agreed to have two League games serve as test matches for the refurbished stadium. We zeroed down on two key fixtures that have a bearing on the title race,” he added.
The two fixtures are KCCA FC vs SC Villa which will kick off at 4:00pm and BUL FC vs Vipers SC which will be a night game with kickoff at 7:00pm.

According to Paul Kabaikaramu, the Uganda Premier League Manager, all four clubs were consulted and they agreed to have the matches played at Namboole.
“We engaged the clubs, especially the hosts BUL FC and KCCA FC who all agreed to this arrangement,” he stated.
It should be noted that FUFA is fighting hard to have Uganda Cranes host their upcoming FIFA World Cup Qualifiers home matches against Botswana and Algeria in June at Namboole.
Vipers Sports Club were held by Maroons Football Club in a one-all draw in the Uganda Premier League encounter at St Mary’s Stadium, Kitende on Tuesday.
David Ndihabwe fouled Bright Anukani at the edge of the box but Moses Waiswa’s resultant freekick went inches above the frame in the 10th minute.
Ten minutes later, Allan Okello nearly gave Vipers the lead as he nodded Anukani’s cross slightly wide of the right goal post.
Amidst the early pressure, Maroons kept in shape and held onto the 0-0 scoreline going into the break.
Second-half substitute Milton Karisa broke the deadlock with his first touch after being set up by Yunus Sentamu.
Darius Ojok restored parity ten minutes later as his shot went off Hillary Mukundane thus changing trajectory in a deflection that left Vipers’ custodian Alfred Mudekereza completely beaten.
In the 80th minute, Fred Amaku had a glorious chance to seal Maroons’ victory from close range with only a keeper to beat but his heavy touch skied way above the frame.
Okello was handed Vipers’last chance of the game but the forward’s delivery went straight into Hannington Ssebwalunyo’s hands.
The point guided Vipers back to the log summit with 46 points, the same as BUL but the former has a superior goal difference.
Maroons lie sixth on the log with 39 points gathered in 24 games.
Maroons will be hitting the road ahead of the Uganda Premier League encounter at St Mary’s Stadium Kitende on Tuesday, April 23.
In the pre-match conference, Maroons midfielder Ronald Orombi stated that he anticipates a positive result in the duel against Vipers.
“We believe in going to Kitende and picking a positive result as aim to hit our target of finishing in the top four,” he said.
“As you have seen from our past game, everyone is happy and motivated and I think we are good to go. We have respect for Vipers but the players there are like us so there is no difference,” he added.
Anything apart from a win will slow down Vipers’ title chase as they seek to reclaim the log summit.
Vipers sit second on the log with 45 points and a victory will lift them past BUL FC who are ahead by just a point.
With Yunus Sentamu regaining his scoring form in recent games, the forward will be looked upon to lead Vipers upfront.
On the other hand, Fred Amaku comes into this game after netting a brace against Busoga United and he will seek to keep the scoring streak alive.
However, Maroons are aware that a victory will lift them from the seventh position (38) to the fifth position (41).
Head to head
The last time the two sides met, they were held in a boring one-all stalemate while the last time Maroons visited Kitende, they were beaten 3-0.
In the last five league games, Vipers have secured three wins, a draw and lost once while Maroons have registered two wins, held two draws and suffered one loss.
Maroons Football Club registered a well-deserved 3-0 victory against Busoga United in the Uganda Premier League at Prison Grounds, Luzira on Thursday.
Fred Amaku (brace) and Abraham Tusubira were on target as Maroons claimed maximum points on the day.
At full-time, Busoga United were nine after Charles Mulanda and Hussein Ssajjabi were given marching orders on the day.
Amaku fired the home side ahead in the 27th minute after a well-coordinated switch play with Ronald Orombi.
Six minutes later, Amaku doubled the hosts’ lead with a thrilling finish thanks to Fred Kigozi’s precise delivery.
Before the end of the first stanza, scorer Amaku set up Tusubira who scored Maroons’ third goal on the day.
Two minutes into the second stanza, Mulanda was sent off as Busoga United was left with only 10 men to play.
Two minutes later, Sajjabi followed his captain after a harsh challenge on Maroons defender Darius Ojok.
The victory lifts Maroons to the sixth position with 38 points while Busoga United are 14th with 18 points after 23 games.

Muhammad Shaban scored twice as KCCA secured a well-deserved 4-0 victory against Mbarara City in the Uganda Premier League at MTN Onondaga Stadium, Lugogo on Thursday.
Shaban now tops the scoring sheet with 14 goals in 23 games played thus far in the ongoing campaign.
Anthony Emojong made a world-class save to deny Akandwanaho’s powerful strike in the fourth minute.
Haruna Lukwago came close in the 10th minute but his strike went wide of the target by inches.
Ashraf Mugume broke the deadlock with a thrilling effort from a free kick that went past a wall before finding the back of the net in the 15th minute.
In the 22nd minute, Arafat Usama’s strike bounced off the woodwork as the hosts kept seeking for more goals.
Seven minutes later, Etienne Katenga was fouled in the dangerous area by Innocent Wafula and the hosts were awarded a penalty.
Muhammad Shaban stepped up and converted from the spot extending his season tally to 13 goals.
Shaban stretched KCCA’s lead to three after sealing a personal double in the 49th minute.
The in-form forward Katenga joined the party as he converted from close range in the 54th minute after being set up by Usama.

Maroons captain David Ndihabwe says they are always confident whenever they are playing at home.
Maroons will be taking on Busoga United in the Uganda Premier League at Prison Grounds, Luzira on Thursday.
Ahead of the game, Ndihabwe believes they can capitalize on the home advantage and register maximum points against Busoga United.
“We always feel confident at home. It will not be an easy game because we are playing Busoga United, a side that is fighting relegation,” he stated.
“We expect a physical challenge but we have prepared well. The technical team has given us the necessary information and the mood in the camp is high ahead of the encounter,” he added.
“I am happy with the way we played our previous two games. We had a good win against Express and later picked a point against Mbarara City. So we hope to build from that and get better. I believe we have all it takes to win tomorrow.”
Maroons will be without Umar Kyabatala (injured) and Innocent Biyika (accumulation of cards) while goalkeeper Amir Nalugoda returns from the sick bay.
In the last five meetings between the boys, Maroons has won twice, Busoga United has won once and they have shared spoils twice.

KCCA will be seeking to return to winning ways as they face Mbarara City in the Uganda Premier League at MTN Omondi Stadium, Lugogo.
The Kasasiro Boys were kicked out of the Uganda Cup by BUL FC in spot kicks. The UPL encounter against the Ankole Lions provides them a glorious chance to return to glory.
In the pre-match conference, the KCCA head coach stated that the boys’ morale is high and they have since shaken off the disappointment of being kicked out of the prestigious tournament.
“We have managed to calm the boys down (after being eliminated in the Uganda Cup) and the boy’s morale is up to put up yet another great performance,” he stated.
“Our hope is always trying to play better than we did in our previous game. We are going to try and manage ourselves better because we are trying to solve the mistakes that denied us victory (in the Uganda Cup),” he added.
Though the campaign started on a very poor run, KCCA have since turned around its fortunes and now lies sixth on the log with 35 points, nine away from the log leaders.
Mubiru asserts that even after the Uganda Cup elimination, KCCA still has a lot to play for and they continue handling one game at a time
“There is still a lot we are competing for so we have to try and play better every single day. We shall continue handling game per game because we are well conversant doing so,” he concluded.
In the first leg, KCCA suffered a 2-1 loss so they badly want to revenge in their own yard.
Roving left back, Mustafa Kizza will miss the action due to a muscle strain while Ashraf Mugume returns after missing BUL’s encounter.
