KCCA head coach Abdallah Mubiru said that the team paid the price for being reckless as they fell to Kitara on Friday February 23.

The Kasasiro Boys lost 1-0 to Kitara in front of a fully packed up MTN Omondi Stadium, Lugogo.

While speaking to the press, Mubiru revealed that they were the better team on the day but failed to convert their chances and at the end of the day they were punished.

“It is a disappointment to us but we paid the price for being reckless. It is a very big lesson to us, we mismanaged the game because we played the first 25 minutes well looking for a goal but then we lost the intension,” Mubiru said.

The way we managed most of the situations was not good but then we lost the intention and then just played. It is very unfortunate that we missed very easy chances at the same time. It is disappointing but again a very big lesson,” he added.

Amidst the loss, Mubiru thinks that the team picked lessons and he will back on that spirit to boost the boys ahead of the next fixture.

“We lost the game but not the spirit, we still have a lot to build from. This game is over and we are now waiting for the next game. We shall keep motivating the boys because we were the better team on the day but did not get the results.”

After playing 18 games in the ongoing Uganda Premier League, KCCA lie ninth on the 15-team log with 23 points.

Next on the menu, KCCA will take on NEC on Wednesday February 28 at Lugogo in a mini battle on who is the king of MTN Omondi Stadium.

Uganda Premier League | Results

Kitara continued to cement their title ambitions with a 1-0 victory against KCCA in the Uganda Premier League at MTN Omondi Stadium, Lugogo on Friday.

In a game played under the floodlights, Denis Omedi was the hero of the night as he fired home the only goal that gave Kitara the win.

The victory at Lugogo meant that the Royals had completed a league double by beating KCCA at home and away.

The game was witnessed by a very huge crowd, one that is so rare in the league and the local sports at large.

In the first half, Jude Ssemugabi and Erick Muber came close to placing the visitors in the lead but somehow failed to get the ball on target with the right energy.

KCCA came back from the locker rooms seeming more organized and having the right character for such a great encounter.

Ten minutes into the second half, Muhammad Shaban nearly found the back of the net but the ball went wide of the frame.

After missing a number of chances Omedi gave Kitsra the lead in the 79th minute. KCCA’s backline failed to deal with a loose ball in the area before the quick-footed forward fired it home.

Kitara is second on the log with 36 points two behind log leaders BUL while KCCA is ninth on the table with 23 points only.

Uganda Premier League – Results

Maroons held BUL in a goalless draw in the Uganda Premier League encounter at the Prison Grounds in Luzira on Friday evening.

In was a physical game all throughout the 90 minutes and none of the sides came out of the duel victorious.

Maroons are still winless in the second round of the campaign, in the three games played sofar they have lost one and shared points twice.

Though looking at BUL, they have as well won once and shared spoils twice in their last three games of the ongoing campaign.

In the 18th minute of the game, Gerald Ogwet nearly found the back of the net but Maroons custodian Hannington Ssebwalunyo was quick to take care of the danger.

The second half did not have much action as the possession was equally shared among the two sides.

After the draw, BUL sit on top of the log with 38 points while Maroons are sixth with 30 points after playing 18 games.

Bright Stars played to a one-all draw stalemate against Express in the Uganda Premier League at Kavumba Recreational Grounds, Wakiso on Thursday.

Isaac Wagoina fired the hosts ahead before Ashraf Mulindi leveled matters late in the encounter.

The two sides played to a goalless first-half encounter, with several chances created none was buried setting up an entertaining second half.

On-form forward Wagoina fired Express in the driving seat in the 47th minute with a rebound after his penalty was saved

That was after Steven Ssenfuma was fouled in the dangerous area to send Wagoina to the penalty spot.

However, Mulindi leveled matters in the 85th minute tapping in a dangerous cross from Nelson Senkatuka to turn around emotions giving the home side a reason to smile.

Express lie eighth on the log with 26 points while Bright Stars move to 22 points in the 11th position.

Bright Stars will return to action on Thursday, February 29 as they visit Vipers SC at St Mary’s Stadium, Kitende.

Uganda Premier League | Results 

Mbarara City secured a hard-fought 1-0 victory against Busoga United in the Uganda Premier League at Kakyeka Stadium, Mbarara on Thursday.

Edward Namasa scored the only goal as Wasswa Bbosa’s troops secured maximum points on the day.

The Ankole Lions have continued to prove their dominance and class at home losing only to NEC FC in the opening league game.

In the 14th minute, Namasa scored a rebound after Busoga United failed to deal with Sadiq Ssekyembe’s powerful corner kick.

Mbarara held on and guarded their victory at the end of 90 minutes of a physical game.

The victory takes Mbarara City to the 11th position with 20 points while Busoga United are 14th with five points less than Mbarara.

Next on the menu, Mbarara City will be on the road to play Bright Stars on Friday, March 8 while Busoga United take Gaddafi on Thursday, February 29.

Uganda Premier League – Fixture

It has not been a smooth road for Express FC in the second round of the Uganda Premier League having lost two of the games played so far.

Before the end of the first round, the Red Eagles registered four straight victories but later went on to fall to Mbarara City and KCCA putting the team in a worrying state.

While speaking in the pre-match conference, Express assistant coach Augustine Nsumba revealed that they expect to return to winning ways.

“We painfully lost our last league game against KCCA. The game against Bright Stars offers us a chance to return to winning ways and that’s our sole target,” he said.

“The team is ready to encounter Bright Stars. We have used the previous days to furnish on the areas we had to improve. So, we expect maximum points tomorrow,” he added.

“The team is in good shape and all the boys are ready to play apart from John Assimwe and Marvin Oshaba who will miss the game due to the accumulation of bookings.”

The last time the two sides met, Thiery Ssali was on target as the seven times league champions secured maximum points on the day.

In the last five games between the two sides, each side has picked a victory once and the other three games have ended in draws.

Express are eighth on the log while Bright Stars are 10th on the log after playing 17 league games this season.

Wakiso Giants secured a narrow 1-0 victory against URA in the Uganda Premier League at Kabaka Kyabaggu Stadium on Tuesday evening.

The Purple Sharks put to end the winless run in the second round with a victory against the Tax Collectors. They earlier lost to Bright Stars before they shared spoils with Maroons.

James Begisa wasted a glorious chance to give URA FC the lead in the 10th minute. The right-back was set up by Norman Namanya but his effort was thwarted by Bashir Sekagya for a corner.

Six minutes later, Begisa laid in a sweet delivery in front of goal but Vianne Ssekajugo was seconds late to plant the ball into the goal.

In the 24th minute, Rogers Omedwa pulled off a stunning world-class save denying Marvin Nyanzi’s goal-bound effort from close range.

The hosts took full charge of the game but failed to take advantage and the two games went into the locker rooms with a barren stalemate.

Kenneth Kimera finally broke the deadlock in the 58th minute. It was a cool and calm finish from the goal-poacher who was released on the break by Nyanzi’s well-weighted pass.

URA made a double change introducing Ivan Ahimbisibwe and Joseph Ssemuju for Tibiita and Namanya in the 61st minute.

Ahimbisibwe nearly brought the game to levelled matters with his first touch but his effort went narrowly wide of the frame.

In the 72nd minute, Ahimbisibwe eluded his marker to pace before he was tripped in the box but the centre referee waved away.

Once again Ahimbisibwe came close to restoring parity for the visitors but his touch off Hudu Mulikyi’s delivery went inches above the bar in the 84th minute.

The victory lifts Wakiso Giants to the 12th place on the log with 20 points while URA are seventh with 27 points after playing 18 games.

KCCA FC registered a 4-3 victory against Express FC in the Uganda Premier League encounter played at Muteesa II Stadium in Wankulukuku.

The seven-goal-thriller was such a dramatic game of football that was filled with a mixture of emotions as the Kasasiro Boys ran away with maximum points on the day.

Ettiene Katenga placed the visitors in the lead with less than a minute played. Ashraf Mugume latched onto a loose ball and watched in front of the goal before the Angolan forward guided the ball into the back of the net.

On-form Isaac Wagoina restored parity for the hosts with a great header in the 23rd minute thanks to Isma Kawawulo’s delivery.

Ten minutes later, KCCA’s backline failed to clear their lines before John Asiimwe’s deflected effort forced its way into the back of the net to give the home side the lead.

Once again, KCCA’s backline slept on the job easily losing possession to Express who punished them through Marvin Oshaba thus widening the host’s lead in the 37th minute.

Abdallah Mubiru introduced Peter Magambo, Usama Arafat, and Herbert Achai for Peter Lwasa, Emmanuel Ogwang, and Mustapha Kizza.

Shaban Muhammed regained KCCA’s hope five minutes into the second stanza with a header off Mugume’s delivery from the right flank.

After lots of hard work and ingenuity, Mugume was gifted a goal by Express goalkeeper Yunus Abubaker bringing the game to level.

With just a minute left on the clock, Arafat Usama’s late goal turned the tables as visitors dramatically bagged maximum points.

It’s the second loss for Express who earlier fell to Mbarara in a 3-1 loss. KCCA lies ninth with 23 points, two below Express who are eighth.

Gaddafi paused Vipers’ chase in the title race after holding them in a goalless encounter in the Uganda Premier League at St Mary Stadium, Kitende on Thursday.

The defending champions failed to close the gap on log leaders BUL after putting to waste a number of chances in front of goal.

Gaddafi head coach David Mutono told the press that if his troops had taken their chances, they would have easily beaten Vipers.

“We did not take away our chances and that is not good if you want to win games. However, we shall go back and improve our final third,” he said.

“It is not easy to come to Kitende and put up such a sprited fight. I am proud of the boys and I will keep supporting and motivating them to do better,” he added.

The Soldier Boys kept patient throughout the club keeping their goal area safe from danger. Even after Vipers threw several bodies upfront, the Visitors hardly lost their shape.

Mutono added that they are building a playing culture that will help them improve and become more competitive going forward.

“We are building a team. I know it will take time to bear fruit but we want to have a team culture that defines who we are and how we play,” he concluded.

With the stalemate, Gaddafi lie 13th on the log with 17 points collected from 17 games played thus far.

Gaddafi will return to action on Thursday, February 29 as they take on neighbours Busoga United in the Jinja Derby.

Uganda Premier League – Results

Kitara played to a one-all draw against SC Villa in the Uganda Premier League encounter played at Masindi Municipality Stadium on Friday evening.

Brian Aheebwa gave Kitara the lead before Patrick Kakande levelled matters in the 1-1 entertaining duel witnessed by a huge crowd.

Kakande was electric right from the start and his quickness t brought danger to Kitara’s backline before he was tripped by Solomon Okwalinga but Kenneth Semakula kicked the freekick way above the frame in the 24th minute.

Ten minutes later, Kakande eluded his marker before he curled the ball onto the target forcing Crispus Kusiima into a fine save as the visitors kept knocking.

Kitara found their first chance in the 43rd minute with Paul Mucureezi nodding Living Kabon’s delivery inches wide of the left goalpost.

Seven minutes into the second half, Charles Lwanga put the ball in the back of the net but the goal was cancelled due to a handball in the build-up.

Two minutes later, Ronald Ssekiganda was denied by the woodwork in yet another thrilling attack by the visitors.

Aheebwa fired the hosts ahead at the top of the hour. The forward latched on to a loose ball after Jude Ssemugabi’s hard effort was palmed into play by Villa goalkeeper Meddie Kibirige.

With six minutes to play, Kakande restored parity for the Jogoo with yet another exciting curler leaving Kusiima’s face helplessly covered in the jersey.

With the stalemate, Villa lies fourth on the log with 30 points while Kitara are second with 33 points after playing 17 games in the ongoing campaign.
