Vipers SC secured a well-deserved 2-0 victory over URA FC in their Uganda Premier League clash at St. Mary’s Stadium, Kitende, on Tuesday.
URA made an early tactical change, introducing Faizo Matovu for Bright Vuni in the 16th minute after the latter received an early yellow card.
The visitors had a penalty appeal waved away in the 37th minute when Isaac Ogwang went down in the box, but referee Shamira Nabadda was unmoved.
Vipers suffered a setback just before halftime as debutant Ogwang limped off with an ankle injury. Kenneth Kimera replaced him at the start of the second half.
Eight minutes into the second half, Kimera was tripped inside the box, earning Vipers a penalty. Umaru Okello stepped up and calmly slotted home to break the deadlock.
Four minutes later, Okello came close to doubling the lead, but his effort rattled the side netting as Vipers continued to dominate.
The hosts sealed the win in the 75th minute when roving left-back Enock Luyima unleashed a stunning strike from outside the box, doubling Vipers’ advantage in style.
The victory extends Vipers’ lead at the top of the table to four points, while URA remains fifth with 24 points after 16 matches.
Vipers will return to action on Sunday as they visit KCCA at the MTN Omondi Stadium.
KCCA FC and MTN Uganda have launched a new ticketing venture for Ugandan football fans that access MTN Omondi Stadium for KCCA FC’s home games.

“As the number one fan of Ugandan football, MTN is bringing onboard experience. We started this ticketing test with KCCA FC in 2019, and we have fine-tuned this over the years. We have had some challenges since we launched this platform, but we have worked on most of them, and we are ready to serve the Uganda football fans. We want to see the fans in the stadiums supporting the club, and we are looking forward to a whole year of discounts.” Okwi added.
The objective of this new development is to have a hassle-free experience for football fans. MTN Market by MoMo is also finalizing plans with KCCA FC to have merchandise on the MTN Momo app.

Wakiso Giants and SC Villa played to a 1-1 draw in the Uganda Premier League at Kabaka Kyabaggu Stadium on Tuesday.
Aslam Semakula put SC Villa ahead in the first half before Hudson Mbalire equalized in the second half to ensure both teams shared the spoils.
James Alitho was tested early on by Charles Lwanga, but the Wakiso Giants goalkeeper was up to the challenge, making crucial saves.
SC Villa broke the deadlock in the 23rd minute when Semakula capitalized on a well-delivered cross from David Owori on the right flank.
Owori almost doubled Villa’s lead just before halftime, but Alitho pulled off a brilliant fingertip save to keep the hosts in the game.
After the break, Wakiso Giants came out with greater intensity, pushing SC Villa onto the back foot.
Their efforts paid off in the 61st minute when Mbalire pounced on a loose ball inside the box, finishing clinically to restore parity.
The result leaves SC Villa in eighth place with 21 points, while Wakiso Giants remain 14th with 13 points after 16 matches played.
Vipers SC will look to extend their impressive run when they take on URA FC at St. Mary’s Stadium, Kitende, on Tuesday evening.
Currently leading the Uganda Premier League table with 34 points from 15 matches, Vipers have little margin for error as they strive to maintain their position.
With NEC trailing by just one point, any slip-up could see them lose their spot at the summit.
Speaking ahead of the game, head coach Fred Muhumuza acknowledged the increased difficulty of the second round and emphasized the need for greater effort.
“The second round is always tricky and demands total commitment, as teams fight for survival, bragging rights, and better league positions,” Muhumuza stated.
“Every game feels like a final, and we anticipate tough challenges. However, the lads understand what is at stake and will give their best to secure victory,” he added.
URA FC, currently fifth with 24 points from 15 matches, pose a significant threat under coach Alex Isabirye. Isabirye, who previously managed Vipers, will be eager to prove himself against his former club.
In the reverse fixture earlier this season, Vipers secured a 2-0 victory over URA FC, with goals from Allan Okello and Milton Karisa.
They will be hoping for a repeat performance as they continue their quest for the league title.
