Two Ugandan weightlifters have been flagged off by National Council of Sports (NCS) to represent the country at the 2021 Youth World Weightlifting Championships on Friday.
Vanessa Nassali and David Niyoyita met NCS Assistant General Secretary/ Technical – David Katende Semakula to officially receive the Uganda flag ahead of their departure.
According to NCS, the Governement of Uganda funded the duo’s participation in the event that will take place in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia from 3 to 12 October.
“Government through @NCSUganda1 has fully funded the #TeamUganda participation in Jeddah,” read a statement from the body.
“The athletes will aim at securing qualification points to the Commonwealth Games next year and the Senior World Weightlifting Championships.”
A total of 326 players representing 45 countries are expected to feature in the tournament that will be happening for the first in the country.
The previous tournament was held in the ‘City of Lights’ also known as Las Vegas in the United States of America.
