Kitara’s journey in the CAF Confederation Cup ended after a 3-2 loss to Al Hilal Beghanzi in the second leg of the close affair on Friday evening.

It was yet another fight from the Uganda Cup holders as they went toe to toe with Libya’s Al Hilal at Martyrs of Benina Stadium.

Mohamed Bin Salem broke the deadlock in the 40th minute to place the hosts in the driving seat going into the break.

Titus Ssematimba found Kitara’s equaliser in the 57th minute after a brilliant goal where he had to chip the ball past Al Hilal’s custodian from a tight angle.

However, Kitara slept on the job as Hemeya Tanjy regained Al Hilal’s lead two minutes after Ssematimba’s goal.

In the 75th minute, Hemeya found the back of the net once again after easily tapping home a well-whipped-in cross from the right flank.

With team minutes left on the clock, Denis Omedi nodded home off Living Kabon, but it was not enough to keep the Royals at the continental stage.

The victory guides Al Hilal Beghanzi to the second preliminary round where they will lock horns with Egypt’s Al Masry.

Uganda Premier League side Kitara will be out to overturn their deficit against Libya’s Al Hilal Beghanzi in the CAF Confederation Cup at Martyrs of Benina Stadium.

Kitara lost 3-2 to Al Hilal, and the two sides will play the second leg on Friday evening at the same ground this time as the visiting team.

Kitara, head coach, believes his charges are no longer nervous as he expects them to handle the game better than they did in the first stanza.

“I think the boys were a bit nervous in the first leg, but I am confident that as a team, we shall handle the second leg better. So I think we can put up the desired performance,” he revealed.

“I know it’s not going to be very easy because it’s also my first time to coach at this stage. The football here is quite different from what we play back home, but the experience is worth it,” he added.

Kitara will lack the services of custodian Crispus Kusiima, who was sent off in the first leg after handling the ball outside the box.

This leaves the Royals with only one option of using Farouk Yawe in today’s encounter, which will be a bit tricky.

The Royal need a two goal margin victory if they are to qualify to the next round where they are meant to take on Egypt’s Al Masry.

Uganda Premier League side Kitara has entered a partnership with FUFA Women Super League side Lady Doves.

The development is a mark meant to fulfil the CAF requirement that a team taking part in any continental tournament ought to have a women’s football team.

Kitara beat NEC 1-0 in the Uganda Cup final, and the victory meant that the Royals sealed a slot in the CAF Confederation Cup.

“We are glad to announce our partnership with Kitara FC as their official Women’s Team for the coming season,” Lady Doves confirmed in a statement.

In the same breath, Kitara stated; “Lady Doves will become Kitara FC’s official women’s team in all its FUFA, CAF and FIFA engagements beginning next campaign.”

The partnership was confirmed in a ceremony that was held at the Golden Castle Hotel in Hoima City.

The document was signed by Kitara FC President Deo Kasozi and Mr Nsingwire Godfrey, the team manager of Lady Doves FC. The Royals’ CEO, Joshua Atugonza, was also present.

The partnership is meant to as well improve football in the region by creating a force that can challenge titles both in the men’s and women’s leagues.

Uganda Cranes attacking midfielder Travis Mutyaba will be playing in the 2023/24 CAF Confederation Cup final.

This is after his side Zamalek secured a 3-0 victory against Dream FC in the CAF Confederation Cup semifinal encounter.

Hamza Mathlouthi, Samson Akinyoola and Mostafa Shalaby were on target as Zamalek secured a well-deserved victory.

Mutyaba was an unused substitute on the day having taken part in the first-leg encounter.

As he still gets used to life on the Egyptian side, Mutyaba will be the second Ugandan to play in the CAF Confederation Cup final after Khalid Aucho achieved the mark last year.

Zamalek will await the official communication from CAF on whom they are likely to face in the final since USM Alger hardly honoured the fixture against RS Berkane.

KCCA FC registered a 3-2 victory against Abu Salem in the CAF Confederation Cup at St Mary Stadium, Kitende on Saturday.

After losing 3-1 in Tunisia, the Kasasiro Boys had to keep their backline intact but Abu Salem’s two goals at Kitende gave Libya’s side a ticket into the group stage.

In the 20th minute, Shaban Muhammad tapped in from close range after Abu Salem’s custodian failed to get fully firm of Joao Gabriel’s header.

Thirteen minutes later, the hosts nearly doubled their lead but Shaban was late to get in contact with Abu Mayanja’s well-laid cross.

As the first stanza was looming, Juma Mutebi made a stunning save to give the hosts an edge going into the break.

Seven minutes into the second stanza, KCCA made the first change introducing Usama Arafat for Gabriel.

In the 66th minute, Abu Salem was awarded a penalty and Abdulmunem Aleiyan converted from the 12-yard mark to level matters.

With ten minutes to play, Mayanja came close to getting the hosts back in the driving seat but his effort went wide.

Two minutes later, Usama nodded home to restore KCCA’s lead in a quick attack.

But in a slip of a minute, the visitors made a quick response to square the game.

In added time, Arafat restored their lead but it was too late to give KCCA the required win for qualification.

KCCA Football Club will require a miracle to overturn Abu Salem SC’s first-leg victory.

The two sides will meet at St Mary’s Stadium, Kitende in a decisive return leg to decide who gets into the CAF Confederation Cup group stage.

The Libya outfit comes to the duel with a 3-1 first-leg advantage which puts the Kasasiro Boys in the chasing park.

However, KCCA gaffer Sergio Traguil is confident it can be overturned.

“We still have a chance to go to the group stages. We need the right mentality so that we can overturn the score,” Sergio said during a pre-match press conference.

“We have worked very well in the past [few] days. I think the boys are ready for the game and we shall not allow our opponent to hurt us like it was in Tunisia,” he added.

For KCCA to go further, they will need to start early to provide the needed momentum and also glue up their backline not letting in any goal so that they go further.

“We want to start right away and score one, two, or three goals if it’s possible. The boys know what lies ahead of them and I am confident they will take responsibility.”

The Portuguese gaffer believes his side got in shock by the proceedings and some of the players failed to handle pressure, something they have talked about now.

“We were badly punished because we lacked composure. In the first leg, we made silly mistakes and made it easy for them. I think most of the young boys failed to handle pressure but this time we’ve briefed them and they seemed confident.”

It’s not been a good time for the Lugogo-based side having lost two successive games but a victory today will get back their season on course.

KCCA FC head coach Sergio Traguil is confident that his team still has a chance to go through even after losing to Abu Salim in the CAF Confederation Cup.

It was a tough evening for the Lugogo-based side as they fell 3-1 to Libya’s side at Stade Rades, Tunisia on Sunday evening.

In the post-match conference, the Portuguese gaffer revealed how the clash is not done and things can change in the second leg.

“It is very possible to change the things at home. It’s not yet over and we are still positive about qualifying for the group stages,” Sergio told the press.

“We started the game very nervous and we made some silly mistakes that we were not supposed to do. We were also held because of lack of competition this team is having competition more than us,” he added.

The visitors scored in the 24th and 34th minutes giving them a two-goal advantage going into the break.

“We did not play our football, especially in the first 20 minutes. The inexperience cost us a lot and I can tell you about the goals. We defended poorly and we were punished.”

“There were three moments that we need to watch again. I didn’t see anything special with this team. I am not undermining them but we made their work easier.”

“They got their chances and took them away, I think we could have done far better. We have to play better in the second leg.”

“The goal we scored here was very important and it can decide which side goes through,” he concluded.

The second goal for Abu Salim came in the 71st minute before Abubaker Mayanja scored to pull back one for the visitors.

The two sides will meet on Saturday, September 30th to tell who goes into the CAF Confederation Cup groups.

KCCA FC has confirmed its participation in the CAF Confederation Cup for the 2023/24 season.

Reports were circulating that the Lugogo-based side was considering letting go of the slot in the continental tournament due to the huge expenditure ahead.

However, KCCA is now ready to take part in the continental tournament according to a post on their social media handles.

“This is to inform all our stakeholders that KCCA FC today has today sent in its confirmation to FUFA confirming participation in the CAF Confederation Cup for season 2023/24,” the post read.

After Vipers clinched the domestic double, it simply meant the second-placed side on the league would take the CAF Confederation slot.

Amidst a blurry campaign, KCCA finished second on the log with 53 points level with Vipers SC who lifted the league title thanks to a superior goal difference.

KCCA’s last journey to the CAF Confederation groups ended prematurely after Rwanda’s AS Kigali eliminated them in the preliminary round.
