Uganda Premier League side URA Football Club has finally named Uganda Cranes legend David Obua as their head coach.

The development was revealed to the public on Thursday, November 2 via the club’s official social media platforms.

“We are delighted to announce the appointment of David Obua as new head coach on a one-year employment contract,” the statement partly read.

Obua takes the mantle from Fred Muhumuza who emerged in the role on an interim basis.

Muhumuza took over office after Sam Timbe’s sudden passing away in August this year.

In the six games played this season, URA FC has won twice, drawn thrice and lost once in their previous outing.

After the technical bench shake-up, Muhumuza will drop in the hierarchy thus becoming the second assistant coach.

The other members of the coaching staff are Peter Byaruhanga Adyeri (1st assistant coach), Robert Mukada (3rd assistant coach), Bryon Okuba (strength and conditioning coach) and Ilic Milos (fitness coach).

The role of head coach has been empty since the passing away of coach Sam Timbe but reports indicate the search is done.

Obua recently completed his UEFA A Diploma in Belfast, Northern Ireland, and the URA FC coaching assignment is set to be his next assignment.

Interim coach Fred Muhumuza will retake the assistant head coach position in the restructuring that will soon be confirmed by the club.

Obua is one of the finest talents having sprouted on the football scene. He gave a lot of joy to Ugandans with his lethal left foot and he needs no announcement.

However, as a coach, a lot will be required from him since he joins a club with huge promises but limited output in terms of success.

On Friday, September 22, URA will be hosting Gaddafi FC at Metha Stadium, Lugazi in their second game of the 2023/24 campaign.
