Mbale Heroes and Kataka FC shared spoils in a goalless draw in the FUFA Big League at Mbale Municipal Stadium on Tuesday.

Either side had a chance to take the lead in the game but none found the back of the net in the tight encounter that pulled a fair crowd.

In the eighth minute, Isaaya Sabiiti came close to the game but his powerful effort went inches above the frame.

Junior Zaake was fouled at the edge of the box, and Kataka’s fans protested calling for a penalty but the centre referee stood to the first decision calling for a freekick.

In the 24th minute, goalkeeper Solomon Okello denied Akram Muzanyi who headed Abu Sentongo’s delivery from close range got on target.

The hosts made three changes at ago. Gerald Ogweti, Shafick Kwikiriza, and Brian Wamakale were called onto the field of play.

As Muzanyi, Simon Okot, and Blaise Nkolo were called to rest after being in action for an hour.

Latif Ssenkubuge nearly gave Kataka the lead late but his bouncing header went wide of the frame narrowly.

Goalkeeper Okello made a stunning save to deny Kwikiriza in the last attempt of the game.

Next, Mbale Heroes will travel to visit Kigezi Homeboys at Kabale Municipal while Kataka will host Blacks Power in Mbale. Both games will be played on Sunday, October 1.

Police FC registered a hard-fought 2-1 victory against Young Elephants FC in the FUFA Big League at Kavumba Recreation Grounds on Monday.

In the 21st minute of the game, Jimmy Oola broke the deadlock, heading in from close range to give the visitors a lead.

Daniel Jakony made a stunning clearance as he got the ball off the line to save the Cops from conceding the second.

Emmanuel Mugume had a chance to level matters before the break but his first touch in the box was heavy thus giving away possession.

Police kept pushing for an equaliser but Isaac Agogo’s troops were well-organised at the back. The first 45 minutes ended as the visitors sat in the driving seat.

At the start of the second half, Simon Peter Mugerwa made a double change as he rallied his charges to get back into the game.

Midfielder Gadafi Kacancu and forward Steven Kabuye were called off the field and were replaced by Tonny Kiwalazi and Denis Kalanzi.

Isaac Ogwang missed a spectacular close-range shot eight minutes into the second stanza.  Mugume’s free-kick was blocked back into play before George Kiryowa set up Ogwang but the forward hardly utilised the cut-clear change.

Second-half substitute Kalanzi found the back of the net to restore parity and give Police a chance to get back into the game.

With 13 minutes to end the game, Brian James Obedi was introduced in place of Isaac Ogwang.   

At the death, Police goalkeeper Davis Mutebi set up Obedi who nodded the ball home to snatch the victory late.

The victory gives Police a perfect start to the 2023/24 Big League campaign after narrowly missing out on promotion last season.

Next, Police FC will be on the road to visit Jinja North on Saturday, September 30 while Young Elephant will host Calvary on Sunday, October 1.

Jinja North United came from down to register a 1-1 draw against Booma FC in the FUFA Big League at the Masindi Stadium on Thursday evening.

The game got the 2023/24 Big League campaign underway and the party kicked off in Masindi.

After capitalizing from Jinja North’s clumsy defending, Dickson Niwamanya placed the hosts in the driving seat with a delightful finish by the forward’s weak foot. 

The visitors made quick attacks in search of an immediate response but Booma’s goalkeeper Aslam Muhindo Mahango was quick off the line on two occasions.

Nicholas Luzige forced Booma’s Muhindo into a reflex save as he witnessed his hard shot finger-tipped out for a corner kick.

In the 50th minute, Bronson Nsubuga leveled matters after he smashed a rebound after Salim Huud’s effort was blocked by goalkeeper Muhindo.

Quick-footed forward Nsubuga had a chance to give Jinja North the lead but lost possession thanks to Dickson Mataama’s challenge after remaining with a goalkeeper to beat.

In the next game, Booma FC will travel to St George Arena as they visit Kaaro Karungi on Sunday, October 1 while Jinja North will host Police FC at Kyabazinga Stadium Bugembe on Saturday, September 30.

Kitara Football Club have been crowned FUFA Big League champions.

The achievement was reached after a 1-0 victory against Kaaro Karungi at Kigaaya Primary School Playground.

The Royals came into the fixture having stiff competition from Mbarara City FC who were just a point behind them.

They had already been promoted to the Uganda Premier League after beating Adjumani Town Council 3-0 last week but wanted to place the icing on the cake.

Paul Mucureezi scored the only goal to give Sam Simbwa’s coached side maximum points in the dull encounter.

Paddy Muhumuza was pulled down in the forbidden area and Kitara was awarded a penalty. Mucureezi stepped up to the occasion and duly converted from the 12-yard mark.

George Ssenkaaba came close a number of times but failed to get the ball passed the dotted line.

It was jubilation after the final whistle as the home crowd flocked to the field of play to join the players in the chants and songs of praise.

The victory meant, Kitara concluded the Big League business on 61 points from 30 games.

Elsewhere, Mbarara put three past relegated Northern Gateway to finish the campaign second on the log with 60 points.

NEC Football Club has confirmed qualification to the Uganda Premier League on the final day of the FUFA Big League.

The Bugolobi-based side managed to achieve the feat after a 4-1 victory against Kataka FC at Mbale Municipal Stadium.

Julia Walugembe netted a brace with Tony Kiberu and Marvin Kavuma also on target to ensure NEC squeeze a late entry into the top tier.

It was a tricky game playing away from home to Kataka FC in a must-win for NEC FC.

Coming into the thrilling duel, NEC were a point above Police and it surely created pressure on both sides since there was only one spot left for top-tier football.

Kiberu gave the visitors an early lead guiding the ball into the back of the net.

Captain Kavuma doubled the lead a minute to the top of the hour.

Walugembe’s brace came late in the 63rd and 70th minutes respectively.

The home side pulled back one but it was more like a drop in an ocean claiming no significance in the duel.

The victory took NEC to 57 points gathered from 30 games. They managed 17 wins, six draws and seven losses.

Kitara FC is now a step away from securing top flight football after registering a 5-1 victory against Soroti City FC in the FUFA Big League at Kigaaya Ground, Hoima.

Paul Mucureezi (brace), George Ssenkaaba, Edison Agondeze and Paddy Muhumuza were on target as the Royals made a big statement in their hurt of promotion.

Daniel Opio scored the only goal for the hosts today evening.

The victory puts the Hoima-based side in a comfortable place and a point in their next game would ensure promotion to the top tier.

In the 30th minute of the game, Mucureezi opened the scoring with a well-taken freekick to place Kitara in the driving seat.

In the added time of the first stanza, Opio restored parity to sent both sides in the long break leveled.

Six minutes after recess, Mucureezi restored the hosts’ lead to complete a brace and ignite the pace of his teammates.

Ssenkaaba nodded home Moses Sseruyide’s freekick to widen the lead as the fans got on their feet in jubilation.

With three minutes left on the clock, Agondeze placed the ball in the back of the net before he turned provider to Muhumuza who hit the last nail in Soroti’s coffin.

Kitara’s victory keeps them on the summit with 55 points while Soroti City lie 14th on the log with 27 points.

In the next game, Kitara will face Adjumani TC next friday while Soroti host Luwero United on the same day.

NEC Football Club were edged by Lugazi FC in a 2-1 loss in the FUFA Big League at Coffee Grounds, Bugolobi on Thursday evening.

The Army side faced their seventh loss of the ongoing campaign having played 28 games as they continue to chase top-flight football.

NEC FC faced a big blow as they lost their captain Marvin Kavuma after suffering an injury.

In the 35th minute, Gerald Ogwet placed the visitors ahead with an easy tap-in after NEC goalkeeper Braddy Wokorach failed to deal with Shafick Kiryowa’s powerful effort.

As the first half was looming, Ogwet doubled the lead after NEC’s defensive line failed to clear Moses Mpuga’s delivery from the right flank of the pitch.

After recess, NEC returned a better side throwing bodies in front in search of a response after falling two goals down.

Second-half substitute Geoffrey Sserukuma came close with a backward header from close range but custodian Anthony Emojong was quick to collect the ball.

In the 77th minute, Sserunkuma raised in a forest of bodies to node home hence giving the hosts a consolation goal.

The Bugolobi-based side tried their best to level matters but Lugazi were compact and tight at the back.

The loss left them in the third position with 51 points while Lugazi raise to the fifth position at 40.

NEC are left with two games against Adjumani TC at home and later conclude with Kaaro Karungi away from home.

Log leaders Kitara FC have no room for error as they take on Luweero United in the FUFA Big League at Kasana Playground in a much-anticipated encounter today.

Kitara who are just a point above second-placed NEC FC and two points above third-placed Mbarara City will be keen to know if they faltered in any way, it’s possible to fall into the third.

The Royals meet a side they beat 4-0 in the first leg at Kigaaya playground and will fancy their options to complete a double.

Kitara FC head coach Sam Ssimbwa agrees it has not been easy away from home but in the final bend of the journey, there is always limited room for error.

“Each time we have not been playing at home, it has not been easy because all teams are fighting either to be promoted into the top tier or to avoid relegation,” he told the press ahead of the clash.

“However it’s upon us to know that we have a target and we should do all it takes to see that we go back home with a positive result,” he added.

According to the tactician, the boys are ready and will stage a spirited fight so that they lighten their chances of qualification as well as clinch the title.

Kitara play this game after edging Kyetume 2-1 thanks to a late match-winner that sparked a riot at Nakisunga Grounds in Mukono last week.

While Luweero will seek to make amends after falling to Mbarara in a 1-0 loss at Kakyeka Stadium in the land of milk and honey.

Kitara has collected 51 points from 26 games, managing fourteen wins, nine draws and three defeats while 13th-placed Luweero has collected 28 points after 26 games.
