Uganda Premier League | Tuesday Fixtures

Gaddafi FC and Busoga United will face off in the Uganda Premier League on Tuesday evening at Gaddafi Arena in Jinja.

After three straight defeats, the Soldier Boys finally got off to a winning start with a 1-0 triumph over Arua Hill SC.

Baker Buyala came up big with a goal as Gaddafi stretched Arua Hills’ winless streak to four games.

David Mutono will be hoping that the victory will galvanize his men so that they can get their campaign back on track.

Busoga United has likewise had a slow start to the season. They have struggled to impress after their opening-day success, earning only a point against Mbarara City.

The Jinja Derby, on the other hand, provides a fresh start for the two teams to correct their mistakes and claim all maximum points.

Mutono, Gaddafi’s head coach, stated in the pre-match press conference that his team was motivated by an away win.

“We are motivated having gotten our first victory of the league,” Mutono said before adding; “We have not yet ironed out our mistakes fully and am sure we shall get better as a team in the next games.”

“As we host our neighbours Busoga (United) it will be a great moment for us to win the game so as to give our fans a reason to be happy.”

“I call upon all the fans to turn up and support the boys as we look for the second win of the campaign at large.”

Head to Head

In the last four meetings, Gaddafi FC has won twice, Busoga United has won once and the other clash has been a goalless draw.

Mbarara City and Busoga United played to a goalless stalemate in the Uganda Premier League at FUFA Technical Centre, Njeru on Thursday.

It was an even contest as both sides were quite equal to each other both on offence and in defence.

In the first half, Mbarara got a few chances but his efforts were not accurately directed failing to find the target.

Two minutes into the second stanza, Henry Kitegenyi got the best chance to put Mbarara City upfront but his touch was too heavy failing to find the target.

Ten moments later, Busoga engineered a thrilling attack through a forest of legs but the attack hardly materialized after the assistant referee flagged Fredrick Ngalo to be offside.

Mbarara City later contested a penalty after the ball went off Aggrey Madoi’s hand but the referee waved away.

At full-time time none of the two sides had found the back of the net.

The stalemate means Mbarara City is still winless with three draws and a loss in the four games played.

While Busoga United have so far garnered four points in four games played into the campaign.

Next on the menu, Busoga will play Gaddafi on Tuesday, October 24 and Mbarara will host Arua Hill SC on Wednesday (a day later).

Gaddafi FC head coach David Mutono is confident that the team’s poor run will end in the outing against Arua Hill SC in Paridi on Thursday evening.

Gaddafi has so far lost all three of their opening against Vipers SC, URA FC and Kitara FC.

Arua Hill SC fell to Busoga United, Vipers SC and BUL landing on the bottom of the log.

“We confident that we shall get the three points,” Mutono said in the pre-match conference.

“We have not had the luck for the past three games. We know our mistakes and we have tried to rectify them during our training,” he added.

In the last four meetings, the Soldier Boys have picked two victories, the Kongolo have one win and share spoils once.

In the other game, Busoga started the season with a 1-0 victory against Arua Hill SC but went on to lose two games take on Mbarara City.

Mbarara City lost their opening game before registering two stalemates later on.

Both sides will fight for maximum points to get the campaign onto the right path.

Vipers SC edged Gaddafi FC in a 2-1 victory in the Uganda Premier League at Gaddafi Arena on Sunday.

It was a perfect start for the Venoms who started their title defence with a victory away from home.

The Jinja-based side was returning to their home (Gaddafi Arena) after playing the previous campaign at Kakindu Stadium.

Vipers took the lead through captain Milton Karisa who was in the right place to swiftly convert Yunus Ssentamu’s assist.

Thereafter Vipers were in full control of the game but lacked the mobility and urgency upfront to take away the created chances.

With four minutes left on the clock in the first half, Gaddafi’s goalkeeper Dennis Ochieng fumbled with the ball before the Mauritanian forward Mohammed Salem Ekbad tapped home from close range. Bright Anukani’s low hard effort gave Ochieng a lot of work to do before Mohammed converted the loose ball steps away from the goalline.

The hosts returned a better side as they took charge of the game from word go.

Ten minutes into the second half, the hosts pulled back one through Benson Muhindo who converted from the spot after Rogers Torach pushed Amos Kirya in a dangerous Area and the centre referee gave Gaddafi a penalty.

The hosts kept pushing for an equaliser but Vipers’ defence was up for the task.

The victory gives the Venoms a perfect start to the season as they chase for a third title in a row.

In the next game, Gaddafi will visit URA FC on Friday, September 22 while Vipers will host Arua Hill SC on Thursday in the night football fiesta.

Vipers seek a quick response by returning to winning ways after suffering a narrow but painful defeat to SC Villa on Saturday.

Karim Ndugwa is positive that today’s game gives them a chance to get back on to the positive run.

“Yes, we lost our previous game but you saw we had chances but failed to convert them something we have worked on and I know today we return on to the positive run,” he said ahead of the night fiesta.

“We are together as a club and believe it was only a slip in a marathon and we can still get back and continue with the chase going forward because our sight is still on the prize,” he added.

The previous loss meant that the Venoms are now seven points adrift of the log leaders Villa who have played three games more.

But Ndugwa thinks the title race is still open and the Kitende-based side has no pressure whatsoever going forward.

“Our chances of clinching the title are still many and we are not under pressure however we need to win all our games and put ourselves in the best position to defend the title.”

On the other hand, it’s not been easy for Gaddafi who kick-started the campaign with a target of fighting for the trophy.

They currently lie 10th with 29 points gathered from 23 games.

They have currently lost twice in a row against Arua Hill and KCCA and will come into this duel also searching for redemption.

In the reverse fixture, the Jinja-based side upset the Venoms who fell to a 1-0 loss thanks to Alex Kitata’s early strike.

In the last three meetings, Vipers have won twice and today’s visitors have been on the winning side once.

Julius Poloto’s strike was the difference as KCCA Football Club went past Gaddafi Football Club in a 1-0 victory in the Uganda Premier League at Kakindu Stadium.

The winger came off the bench to ensure Jackson Mayanja’s reign at KCCA remains.

Allan Okello had a chance to give the visitors a lead but Gaddafi’s custodian Joel Mutakubwa pulled off a stunning save after 10 minutes.

Six minutes later, Muhammad Shaban found the back of the net but the assistant referee raised the flag for offside.

Bakali Magumba’s clearance nearly went into his goal as he tried to deal with Okello’s delivery.

The hosts came so close as Joel Madondo’s effort rattled the frame as the visitors escaped the scare.

In the 73rd minute, Poloto broke the deadlock. The winger was set up by Saidi Mayanja before he shot hard into the net.

The victory keeps the Kasasiro Boys in the second position on the log with 44 points, two behind log leaders SC Villa who have played two games more.

Gaddafi remains 10th on the log with 29 points gathered from 23 matches.

Next on the menu for KCCA is Onduparaka on Tuesday, April 2 while Gaddafi will make a trip to Kitende to play Vipers on the same day.

KCCA Football Club are seeking back-to-back wins as they make a trip to Jinja to face Gaddafi at Kakindu Stadium, Jinja today.

It will be the second game for new tactician Jackson “Mia Mia” Mayanja who started his reign with a 4-1 win over SC Villa at the MTN Omondi Stadium.

The victory also marked the end of the four-game winless run creating hope for the KCCA faithful that they can still clinch the title of the ongoing season.

“Each game now is like a final, if we want to be champions, we must win each game that we play,” Mayanja told the club media before adding; “My major target is to win this trophy and regain the lost hope to everyone attached to the club.”

“We are prepared as a team. The players have listened to us and are now catching up. Players should know the demands of the manager and adapt to them,” he stressed.

Mayanja underlined the need to attack with vigour to pick maximum points. “We need to go all out and pick three points because we have no other assignment apart from winning our games and that’s all.”

“I respect Wasswa Bbosa (Gaddafi’s head coach), I have seen him, for now, quite a while and we know each other very well. So it will be relatively a hard game but all in all, we have to win.”

The Kasasiro Boys will miss the services of their lethal forward Rogers Mato due to injury but Mayanja notes the team has many players and they will find a direct replacement.

“First of all, we have an injury setback for Mato. I did not want to push him because he got a muscle strain so that one is already out. But have a replacement because I trust all the players here.”

The Lugogo-based beat Gaddafi 2-1 in the first leg though the Army Boys won the last duel between the two sides that was played in their fortress.

KCCA are second on the log with 41 points while Gaddafi is 10th on 29 having played a game more.
