Wakiso Giants 1-0 Mbale Heroes
Wakiso Giants secured a 1-0 victory against Mbale Heroes in the Uganda Premier League at Kabaka Kyabaggu Stadium on Friday.
Habert Asiimwe broke the deadlock in the 17th minute after being set up by Marvin Oshaba to place Wakiso Giants in the driving seat.
A minute later, the visitors nearly restored matters through Shafiq Muzanyi after Faisal Wabyoona’s defence-splitting pass, but the forward was flagged offside.
Goalkeeper James Alitho miscued his kick that nearly cost the hosts, but the ball sailed out for a corner kick in Mbale Heroes’ favour.
As the first stanza came to an end, the Purple Sharks nearly doubled their lead through David Bagooole, but his effort at the edge of the box was massively blocked by defender Samson Kasozi.
In the second half, Mbale Heroes greatly improved pegging the hosts on the back foot but failed to guide the ball into the net.
New signings Assimwe and goalkeeper James Alitho staged a great show, thus securing maximum points.
It was the Purple Sharks’ second victory of the ongoing campaign after the 3-2 win against Maroons on matchday two.
On the other hand, Mbale Heroes suffered the second loss of the campaign, hence remaining on three points in three games.
Wakiso Giants go to seven points in the second position on the log. They are two points behind log leaders NEC.
Wakiso Giants will return to action on Tuesday, October 1, away to UPDF, while Mbale Heroes will host URA four days later.

SC Villa registered a 2-1 victory against BUL in the Uganda Premier League encounter at Muteesa II Stadium, Wankulukuku, on Thursday.
Ronald Ssekiganda and Hakim Kiwanuka scored the much-needed goals for the hosts before Dickson Matama pulled back one for the visitors.
SC Villa captain Ssekiganda nodded home Kiwanuka’s delivery in the 18th minute to set the tone for the highly anticipated encounter.
It was a one-way traffic as the hosts kept on the front foot seeking to double their lead. However, BUL’s backline stood tall, trailing by one into the halftime.
Kiwanuka extended Villa’s lead two minutes into the second stanza with a great volley, leaving BUL custodian Joel Mutakubwa totally beaten.
Matama pulled back one in the 64th minute after the hosts failed to clear the ball from the area.
The victory takes SC Villa to six points in three games following the 4-2 win against Mbarara City in the match day one victory.
On matchday four, SC Villa will face Vipers at St Mary’s Stadium, Kitende, on Saturday, October 5 while BUL will host Mbarara City three days earlier.
Eric Kenzo Kambale has completed a move to Libyan Premier League outfit Alittihad Misurata Sports Club.
The development has been confirmed via Vipers SC official website today, Thursday September 26, 2024.
“Forward Eric Kenzo Kambale has finalised his move from six-time Uganda Premier League champions Vipers SC to Libyan Premier League outfit Alittihad Misurata Sports Club,” the statement partly reads.
Vipers reached an agreement with Alittihad Misurata Sports Club since Kambale’s contract still had a year keeping him at St Mary’s Stadium, Kitende.
Kambale spent only one season at Kitende after signing a two-year employment contract.
In the 21 games played, he managed to score four goals and made three assists in the Uganda Premier League.
The 24-year-old forward has previously played for Express and Sudan giants Al Merreikh SC.

Lugazi is set to lock horns with Vipers in the Uganda Premier League encounter at Lugazi Stadium in Najjembe on Thursday evening.
With two games off the fixture, Lugazi has not yet picked a point, and so Vipers forward Allan Okello anticipates a tough challenge from the wounded buffalo.
“We are really focused on tomorrow’s game,” Okello stated.
“We are ready to give our very best, having lost our last outing. It’s a massive opportunity for us to keep our momentum after the Express win.”
“It’s not going to be easy for us because we are playing a team that has lost both games played. They will come all out seeking to win their first game, but we are ready for the challenge,” he concluded.
On the other hand, Lugazi’s head coach admitted that they have had a poor start to the league before adding that it motivates them to fight more and more.
“We are playing one of the strongest teams in the league and we want to start picking points,” he said.
“But we have prepared well, and hopefully, we shall do well, starting with the game against Vipers,” he added.
Team News
Vipers will continue to miss goalkeeper Jack Komakech.
Abdul Nsereko is the other long-term absentee, while Pedro Sukuya is also a doubt.
Lugazi has reported no absentee as all players are available for selection.

It was NEC’s third straight victory in the 2024-25 campaign following wins against Vipers and Kitara on matchday one and two.
In the third minute, Ibrahim Thembo’s inviting freekick created havoc in UPDF’s defence before it was cleared away by Ibrahim Kirya.
On different occasions, Christopher Tebandeke’s long throw-in asked NEC’s backline several questions, but custodian Hannington Ssebwalunyo dealt with it quite well.
UPDF custodian Yusuf Wasswa made a massive save to block James Jarieko’s fierce long-range effort in the 34th minute.
After the break, the hosts made it clear, keeping on the front foot as they looked for the opener in the end-to-end encounter.
Okocha’s belter in the 86th ended UPDF’s fight and resilience as the home fans erupted in joy and excitement.

Police were held by Bright Stars in a 1-1 draw in the Uganda Premier League at Kavumba Recreation Ground in Wakiso on Tuesday.
Isaac Ogwang gave the Cops the lead before Noordin Bunjo levelled matters for Bright Stars in the end-to-end encounter.
This is Police’s third stalemate after the earlier goalless draws against BUL and Mbarara City while Bright Stars have played to a draw against Wakiso Giants and lost to URA previously.
The Cops concluded the game with a man less after Allan Bukenya was sent off the field of play.
In the ninth minute, Ivan Eyamu set up Daniel Otto, who forced Bright Stars custodian Derrick Were into a big save to palm away the emphatic effort.
Ogwang broke the deadlock in the 35th minute with a simple finish after being set up by Denis Kalanzi.
The two sides went into the break, with the Police having a narrow lead.
Bunjo restored parity in the 71st minute. Ashraf Mulindi beat his marker before he fired the ball on goal, but goalkeeper Edward Kasibante’s save put the ball in Bunjo’s way to find the equaliser.
In the 82nd minute, Bukenya received the second booking before he was sent off.
Despite Bright Stars’ dominance in the final minutes, the Cops held on to pick a point on match day three.
Next on the menu, Bright Stars will be hosting KCCA on Tuesday, October 1, before Police take on Kitara two days later in Hoima.

Police and Bright Stars lock horns in the Uganda Premier League at Kavumba Recreation Ground in Wakiso on Tuesday.
The two sides will be out seeking to get off the mark after failing to reach the mark in the two league games played thus far.
The Cops have picked two barren draws against BUL and Mbarara City while Bright Stars were held by Wakiso Giants in a 1-1 draw before falling to URA in a 1-0 loss.
Police head coach Peter Mugerwa has admitted that they lacked the spark in front of the goal, though he added that they have worked on it to improve.
“In the past two games, we have done well in the other areas but failed to score,” Mugerwa noted.
“Against BUL, one of the most in-form sides, we held them despite playing over 65 minutes with a man less and also away to Mbarara,” he added.
“This week, our preparations have centred around working on the final third and hope to get the goals against Bright Stars.”
In the same breath, Bright Stars head coach Joseph Mutyaba expects a tough challenge from the Cops.
“Police are a tough side to break down, but if we convert the chances we create, then we shall win,” he stated.

For Bright Stars, Cleophus Fiat and David Kizza returned to training but will need late fitness tests to be part of today’s clash.

Bright Stars are winless in the last 18 league games.
