BUL held KCCA in a 1-1 draw in the Uganda Premier League encounter at Lugazi Stadium in Najjembe on Friday.
Ashraf Mugume and Jerome Kirya scored for KCCA and BUL respectively in the end-to-end encounter.
In under two minutes, BUL nearly took the lead when Jerome Kirya engineered a counterattack, but his final pass to Ramz Kawooya was far from required.
Ettiene Katenga surged forward before pulling off a powerful effort.
The ball deflected off the Walter Ochora, but KCCA’s shouts for handball went unnoticed.
Kirya forced Mutwalibi Mugolofa into two massive saves as the hosts kept knocking on the door.
At the death of the first stanza, Saidi Mayanja teed up Katenga, but the forward’s final effort went wide of the target.
Mugume broke the deadlock with a header from a perfect delivery by Mayanja. However, Derrick Nsibambi started the attack with a quick throw-in.
Kwikiriza nearly doubled the visitors’ attack in the 70th minute, but BUL’s backline stood tall and firm to clear the danger away from the area.
Four minutes later, Kirya restored parity with a powerful effort from outside the box to finally beat goalkeeper Mutwalibu.
The draw takes KCCA to four points while BUL has two points after two games into the campaign.

At the death of the first stanza, Ahimbisibwe guided the ball into the back of the net to place URA in the driving seat.
Ten minutes into the second stanza, goalkeeper Derrick Ochan made a big save to deny the hosts from close range.

URA will play the second game away from home against Bright Stars in the Uganda Premier League at Kavumba Recreation Ground on Friday.
On matchday one, URA fell to KCCA in a 1-0 loss at MTN Omondi Stadium while Bright Stars were held in 1-1 draw.
Bright Stars head coach Joseph Mutyaba believes that his troops will give him the best in the first fixture at home.
“It’s our first home fixture this season, and we are hoping to start on a high note,” Joseph Mutyaba said.
“URA is a strong team, but so are we. Being at home, we are focused on securing maximum points,” he added.
However, Bright Stars has not secured maximum points against URA in the last five seasons.
Bright Stars’ last win against the Tax Collectors was registered in 2019 at Mandela National Stadium, Namboole, thanks to Nelson Ssenkatuka.
In the same spirit, URA head coach Alex Isabirye believes the encounter avails a chance to bounce back.
“We’ve worked hard to correct the mistakes from the first game. The boys have responded well in training,” he stated.
“I believe we’re in a good position to bounce back. We are hopeful for maximum points tomorrow and will give it our best,” he added.
URA has beefed up its squad with the signing of defender Shafick Lugoloobi from Ntungasaze FC.

Wakiso Giants will be hosted by Maroons at Prison Grounds in the Uganda Premier League on Friday, September 20, 2024.
On matchday one, Wakiso Giants were held by Bright Stars in a one-all draw while Maroons dropped two points after a late equaliser from UPDF.
Wakiso Giants head coach Steven Bengo underlined that his troops switched off in moments that mattered, and they were punished.
“In the first game against Bright Stars, we switched off in some moments, especially in the second half, and we were punished,” Bengo stated.
“So we have worked on that as we face a good side that beat us 1-0 iǹˆ a friendly and from the lessons we can do better,” he added.
Wakiso Giants’ team sheet has been improved by the arrival of Davis Kakande, who was given a playing license late.
Maroons have only lost once in the previous six meetings, which sends warning bells to the visitors in today’s clash.

BUL host KCCA in the Uganda Premier League at Lugazi Stadium in Najjembe on Friday, September 20, 2024.
The hosts kicked off the 2024-25 campaign with a goalless draw against 10-man Police while KCCA secured a hard-fought 1-0 victory against URA.
BUL head coach Abbey Kikomeko is confident that his charges are in a better shape to put up the required fight.
“We started with a point away from home, which is not bad,” Kikomeko stated.
“But against KCCA, we ironed out the mistakes we made especially in the final third, and we are confident of a victory,” he added.
In the same spirit, KCCA head coach Abdallah Mubiru has called upon his troops to forget the victory against URA and focus on the assignment at hand.
“Focus has since shifted to the BUL game, which we have control over, but the win over URA is now in the past,” he stated.
Team News
The return of Jerome Kirya and Pascal will greatly improve BUL’s team sheet and provide Kikomeko with more options.
On the other hand, KCCA will miss the services of Julius Poloto, Usama Arafat, and Emmanuel Anyama due to injuries.
In the 23 meetings between the two sides, BUL has won five, KCCA 10, and shared spoils on eight occasions.

UPDF secured a hard-fought 1-0 victory against Lugazi in the Uganda Premier League at Bombo Military Grounds on Thursday.
Andrew Samson Kigozi scored the only goal to guide the Army side to maximum points on the day.
The maximum points take UPDF to four points in two games shortly after the one-all stalemate against Maroons.
On the other hand, Lugazi has lost both games in the campaign following a 3-0 loss against Kitara at home.
The hosts were in full control of the game from the first minute but were not lethal enough in the final third of the pitch.
Farid Rashid and Samuel Ssekamatte came close to finding the Army side’s opener, but goalkeeper Fahad Emuran kept his goal area safe.
In the 78th minute, Kigozi finally found the back of the net after being set up by Hussein Zzinda’s precise pass.

Vipers started the campaign on the wrong note, falling to NEC in a 3-1 loss at MTN Omondi Stadium, Lugogo on Sunday.
Vipers captain Milton Karisa expects a better performance as they take on the Red Eagles today.

Kitara hosts NEC in the Uganda Premier League at Royal Park, Butema, in Hoima, on Thursday, September 19, 2024.
The Royals come into the game, having secured a well-deserved 3-0 victory against League newbies Kitara on matchday one.
Kitara captain Maxwell Owachigiu believes the victory on matchday one will be an igniting switch to spark off their bright journey.
“We were lucky to win the first game away to Lugazi, and that is motivational enough to give us belief and win against NEC side,” Owachigiu stated.
“The game against NEC provides a great state to test how ready we are. We need to work so hard as players to see that we help the club to achieve its dreams,” he added.
On the other hand, forward Paul Mucureezi will be facing his former paymasters after crossing to NEC.
In a pre-match conference, Mucureezi revealed that meeting his former side provides extra motivation to prove his worth.
“For me, facing my former side is an extra motivation,” he shared to the club media.
The goal is always to show what I am still capable of offering, but the most important thing is to help the team get a good result,” he added.
In the previous campaign, neither side won the league game played at home before Kitara secured a 1-0 in the Uganda Cup.
