Uganda Premier League | Results

NEC and Police fired blanks in the Uganda Premier League encounter at MTN Omondi Stadium, Lugogo on Tuesday.

Before the game got underway there was a moment of silence in honour of assistant referee Peter Kabugo who passed away last week.

It was an end-to-end affair that saw several chances created, but none would change the game.

NEC nearly took the lead through Cromwell Rwothmio, Paul Mucureezi, and James Jarieko but failed to find the back of the net.

In the 23rd minute, Gideon Odong thought he had given the hosts the lead but his goal was cancelled for an infringement.

In the second stanza of the game, the visitors greatly improved taking control of the middle park but were not lethal enough in the final third.

Muzamir Mutyaba nearly gave the hosts a late victory but his venomous effort bounced off the frame.

The draw left NEC in the third on the table with 16 points levelled on points with Vipers while Police FC sit seventh with 11 points.

NEC is set to take on Police in the Uganda Premier League encounter at MTN Omondi Stadium, Lugogo on Tuesday evening.

However, NEC comes into this after falling 1-0 to league newcomers Lugazi in the previous matchday.

NEC head coach Hussein Mbalangu has urged his players to put the loss behind them and ensure a comeback as they take on the Cops.

“The league is a marathon and we shall bounce back. Of course, we mourned that day after the loss but we have since moved on and focus is now on the Police game,” he said.

A victory for the hosts takes back NEC to the log summit who will be two points ahead of the Kasasiro Boys.

In the previous season, NEC managed to eliminate Police from the Uganda Cup as it made it all the way to the finals of the prestigious tournament.

URA secured a 2-0 victory against Kitara in the Uganda Premier League encounter at Hamz Stadium, Nakivubo on Friday evening.

Sharif Kimbowa and Ivan Ahimbisibwe were on the scoresheet as the Tax Collectors secured first win at home.

Kimbowa broke the deadlock in the 41st minute with a touch into an empty net after being set up by Joseph Semujju.

At the stroke of the first stanza, goalkeeper Chrispas Kusiima was culprit after Ivan Ahimbisibwe was tripped in the dangerous zone.

The forward stepped up and converted from the 12-yard mark to double the hosts’ lead before the long break.

URA had a chance to further extend the lead after the ball went off Arthur Kiggundu’s hand in the gazzetted area.

However this time round, Ahimbisibwe put the ball over the frame to keep the scoreline intact.

Kitara had several chances on the day but failed to convert any as their losing streak has now gone to five games.

The victory takes URA to fifth position on 11 points while Kitara is 14th with four points after playing seven games in the ongoing campaign.

SC Villa secured a 5-0 victory against UPDF in the Uganda Premier League at Muteesa II Stadium, Wankulukuku on Friday.

Charles Lwanga broke the deadlock in the 11th minute after guiding home Hakim Kiwanuka’s brilliant delivery.

Three minutes later, Lwanga doubled the hosts’ lead after stretching fully to guide the ball past the custodian Richard Anyama.

Six minutes into the second stanza, Reagan Mpadde made a good run before laying in a dangerous ball. UPDF defender Aggrey Kirya guided the ball into his net.

Lwanga put the icing on the cake with the team’s fifth and personal’s fourth.

The victory takes SC Villa to fourth position with 11 points while UPDF is placed ninth with nine points after playing nine games.

KCCA has registered a 5-0 victory against Maroons in the Uganda Premier League encounter at MTN Omondi Stadium, Lugogo on Thursday evening.

Ashraf Mugume broke the deadlock early in the third minute after ruffling the ball through a forest of legs into the back of the net.

Abubaker Mayanja nearly doubled the back of the net in the 12th minute after being set up by Hassan Muhamud but the forward’s touch was too heavy in front of goal.

Mayanja finally doubled the hosts’ lead with a powerful low drive after being set up by Bright Anukani in an emphatic manner.

Saidi Mayanja scored a beauty with a long-range drive from 60 yards to seal off the first stanza with a 3-0 lead.

Six minutes after the hour mark, Shafik Kwikiriza joined the party with the hosts’ fourth as Maroons failed to clear their lines.

Sadat Happy Anaku came off the bench to seal the day with Kasasiro Boys’ fifth goal after a team attack.

The victory sends KCCA on top of the log with 17 points as Maroons sit 13th on the log with six points after playing seven games.

KCCA is set to lock horns with Maroons in the Uganda Premier League at MTN Omondi Stadium, Lugogo on Thursday.

The Kasasiro Boys have looked impressive since the start of the campaign. They have so far secured four wins and two draws in the six games played.

They are still unbeaten and are yet to concede a goal at home. With 14 points, a victory today will guide them to the summit of the log-adrift Vipers SC.

KCCA head coach Abdallah Mubiru has warned his troops about the Maroons’ arsenal, though he believes the side has what it takes to break them down.

“We are playing against one of our bogey sides (Maroons FC). We expect a resilient side that will give us a challenge but we hope we can break their resilience,” he said.

On the other side, Maroons have started the campaign on a slow note. They have secured one win, made three draws and suffered two losses in the six games played thus far.

In the previous 18 meetings, KCCA has claimed 11 wins while Maroons have won thrice. The two sides have shared spoils on four occasions.

BUL is set to take on troubled Bright Stars in the Uganda Premier League encounter at Lugazi Stadium, Najjembe on Thursday.

BUL is desperate to get the first win at their new ground after sharing spoils with KCCA and falling to Mbarara City in the two games played at home thus far.

The oil manufacturers come into this game on a positive note having collected two away wins in the previous outings as they managed to edge URA before seeing off Kitara.

BUL head coach Abbey Kikomeko believes that the winning streak created in the last two games will give them the boast to end the poor run at home.

“We are prepared to correct our home woes. We’ve built momentum from our last two away wins and are ready for the fight,” Kikomeko said.

In the previous campaign, BUL managed to collect victories home and away in this fixture. They edged Bright Stars 1-0 at Kavumba and 2-1 at home.

On the other hand, Bright Stars have started the campaign on a bad note. They are still winless in six games with three draws and three losses.

The poor run has found them languishing at the bottom of the log with three points in six games played.

Lugazi registered a hard-fought 1-0 victory against NEC in the Uganda Premier League encounter at Lugazi Stadium in Najjembe on Wednesday.

Forward Sam Ssemugugu scored the only goal to help the newcomers collect maximum points on the day.

Lugazi came into this game off an impressive show in the game they managed to beat Express 1-0 at Hamz Stadium, Nakivubo.

The hosts kicked off on the front foot creating several chances but where not so sharp in the final third as the first stanza ended goalless.

However Ssemugugu broke the deadlock in the 70th minute to send the home crowd in full voice and celebrations.

The forward was quick to pounce onto the loose ball after NEC captain Ibrahim Kiyemba lost possession at the center line before guiding the ball past goalkeeper Hannington Ssebwalunyo.

The victory takes Lugazi to the 11th position with eight points while NEC remain second on the log with 15 points.

Police will hosts new comers Mbale Heroes in the Uganda Premier League encounter at Kavumba Recreational Ground on Wednesday evening.

The Cops have picked one point in the last two games. Coming off the 2-1 narrow loss to Vipers, Police seek to return to winning ways.

Police head coach Simon Peter Mugerwa has called upon his troops to make an instant reaction so that they can return to winning ways.

“We did not make alot of mistakes in defeat to Vipers but we’re a bit unlucky,” Mugerwa said.

“For now, the target is to return to winning ways and we are confident about that,” he added.

On the other hand, Asaph Mwebaze will be looking for a first win as Mbale Heroes’ new gaffer.

Since his arrival, the team has shared spoils with Lugazi in a one-all draw and lost 1-0 to KCCA.

Lugazi is set to lock horns with NEC in the Uganda Premier League encounter at Lugazi Stadium in Najjembe.

The Wednesday clash provides a chance for the hosts to pick their maiden victory at the beautiful playground.

The hosts come into this game with positive momentum after securing a 1-0 victory against Express at Hamz Stadium in Nakivubo.

It was history and joy as the first female gaffer in the top-tier league, Oliver Mbekeka led her troops to secure the league’s maiden victory.

However, Lugazi has recently appointed Steven Bogere as the new head coach who will work closely with Mbekeka.

“Since the last game, we have been working on the psychological aspect of the players. We are now very much prepared psychologically and tactically,” Mbekeka said.

“The boys are physically fit, technically and tactically good. Even their mental fitness is apparently good. We know the team (NEC) we are going to face but anythingcan happen because we believe in God,” she added.

The hosts have bagged only two points in their home games while NEC has lost once in the three games played away from home.
