Yasin Nasser has found himself reviewing his seasonal targets after securing victory in the national season-opening event in Mbarara this month. Following the acquisition of his Ford Fiesta Rally5, the Moil Rally Team driver announced his intentions for the Africa Rally Championship bid for 2023. However, after two outings in the Ford with the victory in Mbarara, Yasin has changed seasonal targets. “After the Machakos rally, I realised we have a lot of work to do with the car. Mbarara rally has also given us new lessons since we tried several setups throughout the weekend. “We are yet to enjoy the car fully. Let’s say we are at 50%. So, if we go for ARC when we are not convenient with the car, then it might be a waste of time and resources,” he told Kawowo Sports. Yasin says he will pledge participation towards the national rally events this year. “We have to show up more for any event, there are a lot of setups to do. I will have to do the NRC events and compete for the title as I get more seat time until I am comfortable with the car,” he said. Yasin and Ali Katumba were engaged in a tight race with Duncan Mubiru, Ronald Sebuguzi, and Hassan Alwi before claiming the Mbarara victory by 4 minutes and 16 seconds. “The pace from the other drivers was really high. We are still a bit far from their pace, but we took advantage of the car. There are places we knew the car has an advantage and we pushed. So, everything is not to do with us alone, but with several factors. “Luckily we have Karan Patel’s team helping us out to set up the car until the level we want to be,” he added. The next National Rally Championship event heads to Eastern Uganda on 10-12 March.
