Duncan ‘Kikankane’ Mubiru feels he is not intimidated by fellow Ford Proto drivers on the local scene despite his being the inferior version. “Kikankane” in the Ford Fiesta Proto was in a tight competition with Yassin Nasser in a Ford Fiesta Rally5 during this month’s opening round of the national rally championship. Nasser however would claim the victory with Mubiru dropping to the third position after a mechanical mishap. “The rally5 car has power but power without control is nothing. So I have control of that power. And that is the experience,” said Mubiru. Nasser’s car is the latest version of the Ford Fiesta Rally5 in Africa and a faster car while Mubiru drives a Ford Fiesta NRC, the prototype built by Neiksans Motorsports in Latvia. Mubiru acknowledges Yasin will likely hold a bigger advantage once he fully adopts his car. “The moment Yasin learns his car and gets comfortable with it, that is when we shall say he is the best. His car is already good but I think he needs to get more experience with it. “Yasin has shown he can go higher. So, we need to defeat him now before he gets much better,” he said.
