Ugandan Sarah Chelangat claimed the Cherry Blossom Ten Mile Run, upstaging the women’s elite international section of the race, finishing in 52:04.

The 21-year-old entered the race boasting two national records from three races and she didn't disappoint by surging forward during a sixth mile. She ran in under five minutes to open a sizable gap between her and the competition, finishing ahead of second-place finisher and top American runner Sara Hall. The result meant her second podium finish this year since her second-place finish at the Meeting National Indoor Lyon, Halle Stéphane Diagana. Ethiopia’s Tsegay Kidanu (46:08) won on the elite men’s side despite a heavy wind that buffeted runners throughout the 50th edition of the D.C. racing staple, which also served as the 2023 USA Track & Field 10-mile championship.
